Stability and Safety Analysis on the Next Generation High-Speed Railway Vehicle (차세대 고속철도의 안정성 및 안전성 해석)

  • In this work, the stability and safety analysis are carried out to predict the performance of a next generation high-speed railway vehicle (HEMU-400X). Since the safety of the high-speed railway vehicles is very important, it is meaningful to predict the dynamic performance and stability of the railway vehicles using a numerical model at a railway vehicle design step. The critical speed of the dynamic model depending on the conicity of the wheel is calculated in the stability analysis. The critical speed calculated in this analysis is over 400km/h for the conicity value of 0.15, which is determined on the basis of representative international standard, UIC 518. Also, the lateral and vertical accelerations at several points of the same dynamic model are calculated for the safety analysis. In the simulation, the dynamic model runs at the test speed of 440km/h, which is determined considering a maximum target speed, and the total driving distance is 30km. And those estimated values are less than the allowed maximum acceleration values of UIC 518.

Effects of Interaction Range on the Behavior of Opinion Consensus

  • We have frequently encountered the rapid changes that prevalent opinion of the social community is toppled by a new and opposite opinion against the pre-exiting one. To understand this interesting process, mean-field model with infinite-interaction range has been mostly considered in previous studies S. A. Marvel et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 118702 (2012). However, the mean-field interaction range is lack of reality in the sense that any individual cannot interact with all of the others in the community. Based on it, in the present work, we consider a simple model of opinion consensus so-called basic model on the low-dimensional lattices (d = 1, 2) with finite interaction range. The model consists of four types of subpopulations with different opinions: A, B, AB, and the zealot of A denoted by $A_c$, following the basic model shown in the work by S. A. Marvel et al.. Comparing with their work, we consider the finite range of the interaction, and particularly reconstruct the lattice structure by adding new links when the two individuals have the distance < ${\sigma}$. We explore how the interaction range ${\sigma}$ affects the opinion consensus process on the reconstructed lattice structure. We find that the critical fraction of population for $A_c$ required for the opinion consensus on A shows different behaviors in the small and large interaction ranges. Especially, the critical fraction for $A_c$ increases with the size of ${\sigma}$ in the region of small interaction range, which is counter-intuitive: When the interaction range is increased, not only the number of nodes affected by $A_c$ but also that affected by B grows, which is believed to cause the increasing behavior of the critical fraction for $A_c$. We also present the difference of dynamic process to the opinion consensus between the regions of small and large interaction ranges.

  • The renewable energy source is considered as a good measure to cope with the global warming problem and the fossil energy exhaustion. The construction of electric power plant such as an offshore wind farm is rapidly increasing and this trend is expected to be continued during this century. The bulky and long distance power transmission media is essential to support and promote the sustainable expansion of renewable energy source. DC power cable is generally considered as the best solution and the demand for DC electric power has been rapidly increasing. Especially, the high temperature superconducting (HTS) DC cable system begins to make a mark because of its advantages of huge power transmission capacity, low transmission loss and other environmental friendly aspects. Technical contents of DC HTS cable system are very similar to those of AC HTS cable system. However the DC HTS cable can be operated near its critical current if the heat generation is insignificant, while the operating current of AC HTS cable is generally selected at about 50~70% of the critical current because of AC loss. We chose the specifications of the cable core of 'Tres Amigas' project as an example for our study and investigated the heat generation when the DC HTS cable operated near the critical current by some electric and thermal analyses. In this paper, we listed some technical issues on the design of the DC HTS cable core and described the process of the cable core design. And the results of examination on the current capacity, heat generation, harmonic loss and current distribution properties of the DC HTS cable are introduced.

  • Background: The coracoacromial ligament (CAL) is frequently observed to be damaged during arthroscopy and it is unclear how demographic, anatomic, and radiographic factors are related to CAL degeneration in full-thickness rotator cuff tears. Methods: A prospective study was conducted of patients at a single institution undergoing shoulder arthroscopy for first-time, full-thickness rotator cuff tears. We evaluated preoperative anteroposterior radiographs to obtain critical shoulder angle, glenoid inclination, acromial index, acromiohumeral distance, lateral acromial angle, and acromial morphology. We documented CAL quality, rotator cuff tear size and pattern during arthroscopy. Multiple logistic regression was used to identify predictive factors for encountering severe CAL fraying during arthroscopy. Results: Shoulders had mild CAL degeneration in 58.1% of cases, whereas severe CAL degeneration was present in 41.9% of shoulders. Patients with severe CAL attrition were significantly older (62.0 years vs. 58.0 years, P=0.042). Shoulders with severe CAL attrition had large rotator cuff tears in 54.1% of cases (P<0.001), and tears involving the infraspinatus (63.2% vs. 29.6%, P=0.003). The severe degeneration group was more likely to have a larger critical shoulder angle measurement on preoperative radiographs than those in the mild attrition group (36.1°±3.6° [range, 30°-45°] vs. 34.1°±3.8° [range, 26°-45°], P=0.037). Conclusions: While the clinical impact of CAL degeneration remains uncertain, increased severity of CAL degeneration is associated with older age, larger rotator cuff tear size, presence of infraspinatus tearing, and increased preoperative critical shoulder angle.   • The purpose of this study is to draw the development direction of subway adjacent area by distance through an analysis on influence factors of land value by urban spatial constitution. The method of this study is analyzing influence factors of land value by the distance of subway adjacent area by using regression analysis method with urban spatial constitution variables from advanced research and drew the difference and extent of land value influence factors by distance of subway adjacent area. The result of analyzed the influence factors of land value by distance to draw the purpose of this study, which is the direction of development by distance of subway adjacent area, the connected area has shown the development direction as high density development centrally on commercial and improvement of accessibility and decrepit status, the directly influence area shows as complexity with high density centrally on commercial and business and lastly, the in directly influence area has shown the development direction as complexity of residential and commercial, improvement of accessibility and decrepit status. This study has used land value as a dependent variable to verify the speculation of this study based on the contents, the results of the analyze and the critical points of precedent studies to draw the development direction of subway adjacent influence area by using autonomous variables from advanced research. Upon this, drew a conclusion of this study as analyze of influence factors of land value could be a reference material for development of subway adjacent area.

A Study on the Safety-Maximizing Design of Exclusive Bus Lanes (안전성 제고를 위한 버스전용차로 디자인 연구)

  • Exclusive bus lane (EBL) is typically located in the roadway median, and is accessed by weaving across the GPLs(general purpose lanes) before entering from the left lane of the GPLs. To maximize the potential for successful EBL operations, a critical design issue that requires special attention is the length of bus weaving section before entering EBL. The process of developing guidelines for the length of bus weaving section can be supported by a sensitivity analysis of performance measure (safety) with respect to the bus weaving distance. However, field data are difficult to obtain due to inherent complexity in creating performance measure (safety) samples under various interesting flows and bus weaving distance that are keys to research success. In this paper, VISSIM simulation is applied to simulate the operation of roadway weaving areas with EBL, and based on vehicle trajectory data from microscopic traffic simulation models, the Surrogate Safety Assessment Model (SSAM) computes the number of surrogate conflicts (or degree of safety) with respect to the bus weaving distance. Then, a multiple linear regression (MLR) model using safety data (number of surrogate conflicts) is developed. Finally, guidelines for bus weaving distance are established based on the developed MLR. Developed guidelines explicitly indicate that a longer bus weaving distance is required to maintain desired safety as weaving volume increases.

Computation of the Shortest Distance of Container Yard Tractor for Multi-Cycle System (다중 사이클 시스템을 위한 실시간 위치 기반 컨테이너 야드 트랙터 최단거리 계산)

  • A container terminal productivity is maximized by a minimized time for processing containers. So, we have been elevated the container terminal productivity through an improvement of computing system, but there are a limitation because of problems for transportation management and method. A Y/T(Yard Tractor), which is a representative transportation, is able to do only one process, loading or unloading, at one time. So if the Y/T can do loading and unloading step by step at a same time, the processing time would be shortened. In this paper, we proposed an effective operating process of Y/T(Yard Tractor) Multi-Cycle System by applying RTLS(Real Time Location System) to Y/T(Yard Tractor) in order to improve the process of loading and unloading at the container terminal. For this, we described Multi-Cycle System. This system consists of a real time location of Y/T based on RTLS, an indicating of Y/T location in real time with GIS technology, and an algorithm(Dijkstra's algorithm) of the shortest distance. And we used the system in container terminal process and could improve the container terminal productivity. As the result of simulation for the proposed system in this paper, we could verify that 9% of driving distance was reduced compared with the existing rate and 19% of driving distance was reduced compared with the maximum rate. Consequently, we could find out the container performance is maximized.

Development of the Home-Based Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program for Patients with Chronic Lung Disease (만성 폐질환 환자에서 재택 호흡재활치료방법 개발 연구)

  • Background : Even though it is well known that pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) improves exercise capacity, and the quality of life, in patients with chronic lung diseases, not many patients can attend hospital based intensive PR in Korea. The purpose of this study was to develop a method for a home-based PR program, and study its effectiveness. Materials and Methods : Twenty patients with chronic lung diseases were randomly divided into two groups : a home PR group comprising of 10 male patients, with a mean age of 70 years, and a control group comprising of 10 male patients, with a mean age of 65 years. We developed exercise programs, depending on the exercise capacity of each patient, which were easy to do at home. The PR program consisted of a 12 week period of enforced aerobic (mostly walking) and muscle strengthening exercises, as prescribed by the exercise specialist, in accordance with the functional capacity of the patient. In addition to the education, nutritional and psychiatric consultation was undertaken, and respiratory muscle training arranged. Patients visited hospital every 2 weeks for evaluation and exercise prescription. Results : All patients finished the 12 week course of therapy. Following the home PR, the endurance times and work capacity of the upper and lower extremities were significantly increased in the treatment group in comparison to the controls. The six minute working (Eds note:should) 'working' read "walking"?) distance was increased from $465{\pm}60m$ to $508{\pm}37m$ and the maximal inspiratory pressure from $72.8{\pm}27.2cmH_2O$ to $91.4{\pm}30.9cmH_2O$. The quality of life, as assessed by St Georges Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), was also improved following PR. Conclusion : The home PR program we developed seemed to be applicable, and effective, to most of the patients with chronic lung diseases in this study.

The Study on the Wear-Corrosion Behavior of Ductile Cast Iron in the Acidic Environment (산성환경 중에서 구상흑연주철재의 마멸-부식거동에 관한 연구)

  • This paper reports the studies on the wear-corrosion behavior of ductile cast iron in the acidic environment. In atmosphere and variety of pH solution, specific wear rate and wear-corrosion characteristics of GCD 60 with various sliding speed and distance were investigated. And electrochemical polarization test of GCD 60 was examined in the environment of various pH values. The main results are as following : As the contact pressure increases, the critical velocity of specific wear rate becomes transient at low sliding speed. As pH value becomes low, wear-corrosion loss increases in the aqueous solution. As the corrosion environment is acidified, corrosion potential of GCD 60 becomes noble and corrosion current density increases.

  • Secondary instability in the flow past two square cylinders in side-by-side arrangements is numerically studied by using a Floquet analysis. The distance between the neighboring faces of the two cylinders (G) is the key parameter which affects the secondary instability under consideration. In this paper, we present the critical Reynolds number for the secondary instability and the corresponding spanwise wave number of the most unstable (or least stable) wave for each G. Our results would shed light on a complete understanding of the onset of secondary instability in the presence of two side-by-side square cylinders.
