The strengthening and rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures with externally bonded carbon fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates has shown excellent performance and, as a result, this technology is rapidly replacing steel plate bonding techniques. This paper addresses this issue, and presents results deals with the influence of external bonded CFRP-reinforcement on the time-dependent behavior of reinforced concrete beams. A total of eight reinforced concrete beams with cracked and un-cracked section, with and without externally bonded CFRP laminates, were investigated for their creep and shrinkage behavior. All the beams considered in this paper were simply supported and subjected to a uniform sustained loading for the period of six months. The main parameters of this study are two types of sustained load and different degrees of strengthening scheme for both cracked and un-cracked sections of beams. Both analytical and experimental work has been carried out on strengthened beams to investigate the cracking and deflection performance. The applied sustained load was 56% and 38% of the ultimate static capacities of the un-strengthened beams for cracked and un-cracked section respectively. The analytical values based on effective modulus method (EMM) are compared to the experimental results and it is found that the analytical values are in general give conservative estimates of the experimental results. It was concluded that the attachment of CFRP composite laminates has a positive influence on the long term performance of strengthened beams.
One of the possible alternatives of simulation-based time-dependent reliability assessment of pre-stressed biconcave and biconvex cable trusses, the Monte Carlo method, is applied in this paper. The influence of an excessive deflection of cable truss (caused by creep of cables and rheologic changes) on its time-dependent serviceability is investigated. Attention is given to the definition of the basic random variables and their statistical functions (basic, mutually dependent random variables such as the pre-stressing forces of the bottom and top cable, structural geometry, the Young's modulus of elasticity of the cables, and the independent variables, such as permanent load, wind, snow and thermal actions). Then, the determination of the response of the cable truss to the loading effects, and the definition of the limiting values considering serviceability of the structure are performed. The potential of the method, using direct Monte Carlo technique for simulation-based time-dependent reliability assessment as a powerful tool, is emphasized. Results obtained by the First order reliability method (FORM) are compared with those obtained by the Monte Carlo simulation technique.
The drying shrinkage of concrete has a close relation to the water movement. Since the diffusion
process of water in concrete is strongly dependent on the temperature and the pore humidity,
the process is highly nonlinear phenomena. This study consists of two parts. The first is
the development of a finite element program which is capable of simulating the rnoisture distri-
,bution in concrete, and the other is the estimation of the differential drying shrinkage and stress
considering creep by using the modified elastic modulus due to inner temperature change and
maturity. It is shown that the analytical results of this study are in good agreement with experlimental
data in the literatures, and results calculated by BP-KX model. The internal stress
caused by moisture distribution which was resulted from the diffusion process, was calculated
:quantitatively. The tensile stress which occured in the drying outer zone mostly exceeded the
tensile strength of concrete, and necessarily would result in crack formation.
High strength steels have been widely applied in recent years due to high strength and good working performance. When subjected to fire conditions, the strength and elastic modulus of high strength steels deteriorate significantly and hence the load bearing capacity of structures reduces at elevated temperatures. The reduction factors of mechanical properties of high strength steels are quite different from mild steels. Therefore, the fire design methods deduced from mild steel structures are not applicable to high strength steel structures. In recent ten years, the first author of this paper has carried out a lot of fundamental research on fire behavior of high strength steels and structures. Summary of these research is presented in this paper, including mechanical properties of high strength steels at elevated temperature and after fire exposure, creep response of high strength steels at elevated temperature, residual stresses of welded high strength steel member after fire exposure, fire resistance of high strength steel columns, fire resistance of high strength steel beams, local buckling of high strength steel members, and residual strength of high strength steel columns after fire exposure. The results show that the mechanical properties of high strength steel in fire condition and the corresponding fire resistance of high strength steel structures are different from those of mild steel and structures, and the fire design methods recommended in current design codes are not applicable to high strength steel structures.
The paper investigates the influence of the rheological parameters which characterize the creep time, the long-term values of the mechanical properties of viscoelastic materials and a form of the creep function around the initial state of a deformation of the materials of the hollow bi-layered cylinder on the dispersion of the flexural waves propagated in this cylinder. Constitutive relations for the cylinder's materials are given through the fractional exponential operators by Rabotnov. The dispersive attenuation case is considered and numerical results related to the dispersion curves are presented and discussed for the first and second modes under the first harmonic in the circumferential direction. According to these results, it is established that the viscosity of the materials of the constituents causes a decrease in the flexural wave propagation velocity in the bi-layered cylinder under consideration. At the same time, the character of the influence of the rheological parameters, as well as other problem parameters such as the thickness-radius ratio and the elastic modulus ratio of the layers' materials on the dispersion curves, are established.

It is needed to investigate the material properties of ETFE foil under various temperatures because ETFE membrane foils have very thin depth and relatively high flexibility. In this paper, the material properties of ETFE membrane foil obtained from 3 testes under various temperatures are presented. First, the uniaxial test under four temperatures as -20$^{\circ}C$, 0$^{\circ}C$, +20$^{\circ}C$ and +40$^{\circ}C$ was performed. Each 5 specimen was tested and the yield stress, tensile strength and the Young's modulus of the foils are obtained. Second, the creep testes under three temperatures as 25$^{\circ}C$, 40$^{\circ}C$ and 60$^{\circ}C$, 3MP, 6MP and 9MP tension load was subjected to the specimen and the creep characteristics was investigated. Finally, the tear test under $5^{\circ}C$, $^0{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ was performed. It is concluded that the shape of stress-strain curve or general behaviors are similar with that of normal temperatures but the mechanical characteristics of ETFE membrane foils were affected by the temperatures, obviously.
While the repeated traffic loading accumulates the damage of asphalt pavement, the damage has being healed during rest periods. And then, this healing enhances the fatigue life of asphalt pavement. A method was developed to determine the healing rate of asphalt mixture in terms of recovered dissipated creep strain energy (DCSE) per unit time, and the healing properties of four different asphalt mixtures were evaluated. The test procedure consists of repeated loading test and periodical resilient modulus tests. A normalized healing rate in terms of $DCSE/DCSE_{applied}$ was defined to evaluate the healing properties independently of the amount of damage incurred in the mixture. From the test results, it was concluded that the healing rates of asphalt mixtures were increased exponentially as the temperature was increased and more affected by the structural characteristics of mixture such as asphalt content than the binder characteristics such as the polymer modification.

Computing low temperature performance of asphalt mixture is one of the important tasks especially for cold regions. It is well known that experimental creep testing work is needed for computation of thermal stress and critical cracking temperature of given asphalt mixture. Thermal stress is conventionally computed through two steps of computation. First, the relaxation modulus is generated thorough the inter-conversion of the experimental creep stiffness data through the application of Hopkins and Hamming's algorithm. Secondly, thermal stress is numerically estimated solving the convolution integral. In this paper, one-step thermal stress computation methodology based on the Laplace transformation is introduced. After the extensive experimental works and comparisons of two different computation approaches, it is found that Laplace transformation application provides reliable computation results compared to the conventional approach: using two step computation with Hopkins and Hamming's algorithm.
This paper presents the rheological properties of bitumen for reducing negative skin friction. The bitumen has been widely used due to both the cost and construction effectiveness. Also, it is well known that the use of bitumen for reducing negative skin friction renders the best results among other available methods. Three different modified bitumens were used for the testing programs. The physical tests include the penetration, the softening point and penetration index. The rheological tests include phase angle, complex modulus, creep tests and flow tests. The tests were conducted at four different temperatures(15, 30, 45 and 6$0^{\circ}C$) in order to simulate the field condition. The test results were analyzed using the phase angle, G$^*$/sin $\delta$, creep compliance and shear viscosity. The result of tests showed that the phase angle increased and G$^*$/sin $\delta$ decreased with the increase of temperature. The creep compliance increased as the loading time increased. The difference of the creep compliance is detected as the time and temperature are varied, however, the difference of the shear viscosity is not significant among the samples tested in this study. The rheological properties of the bitumen also showed that the physical testing method and the temperature dependant testing method are somewhat limited to showing and expressing the full rheological properties of the modified bitumen. The introduction of the time and the temperature dependent testing method is necessary to find out the full rheological properties of the modified bitumen.
Concrete has been recognized as a material which is resistant to high temperatures, but chemicophysical property of concrete is changed by the high temperature. So, mechanical properties of concrete may be reduced. Because of this, standards and researches on the degradation of the mechanical properties of concrete at high temperatures have been presented. However, research data about the state that considering the loading condition and high-strength concrete is not much. Therefore, this study evaluated the high-temperature properties of high-strength concrete by loading condition and elevated temperature. The stress-strain, strain at peak stress, compressive strength, elastic modulus, thermal strain and the transient creep are evaluated under the non-loading and $0.25f_{cu}$ loading conditions on high strength concrete of W/B 12.5%, 14.5% and 20%. Result of the experiment, decrease in compressive strength due to high temperature becomes larger as the compressive strength increases, and residual rate of elastic modulus and compressive strength is high by the shrinkage caused by loading and thermal expansion due to high temperature are offset from each other, at a temperature above $500^{\circ}C$.
