This research is focused on the inducement of the constitutive equation considering the creep strain component and on the development of a finite element method program. The purpose of this research was to contribute to the design of construction structures or to the construction management in soft clay ground through predicting the long-term strain of construction structures reasonably bused on the above program. Modified Cam Clay model was adopted to describe the elastic-plastic behavior of clayey soil. And in the calculation of the creep sprain, the secondary coefficient of consolidation C. was applied for considering the volumetric creep element and the constants m, $\alpha$, A were rosed by the empirical creep equation proposed by Singh 8E Mitchell for considering the deviatoric creep element. To examine the reliability of the program which is developed in this study, the estimated values by this program were compared with the theoretical solution and the experimental results. And the applicability of the developed program was found to be reliable from the sensitive analysis of each parameters used in this study. According to the results obtained from the application of the program on the field measurement data, the estimated values by the program were found with be consistent with the actual values. And from the analysis of the displacement of embankments, the case of considering the creep behavior induced much fower errors than the case of neglecting it. But the results obtained from considering the volumetric creep behavior only were slightly underestimated the results from considering the deviator creep behavior showed the slightly overestimated values. Therefore, it remains the task of further studios to develop the laboratory test devices to obtain the reliable creep parameters, and to select the appropriate soil parameters, etc.

Evaluating the effective properties of materials containing various types of in-homogeneities is an important issue in the analysis of structures composed of those materials. A simple and effective method for the purpose is to impose the periodic displacement boundary conditions on the finite element model of a unit cell. Their theoretical background is explained based on the purely kinematical relations in the regularly spaced in-homogeneity problems, and the strategies to implement them into the analysis and to evaluate the homogenized material constants are introduced. The creep behavior of a thin sheet with square arrayed rectangular voids is characterized, where the orthotropy is induced by the presence of the voids. The homogenization method is validated through the comparison of the analysis of detailed model with that of the simplified one with the effective parameters.
The stress relaxation and creep characteristics of fruits have usually been fit to an exponential expression based on a generalized Maxwell model and Burger's model. It is known that two to three terms in the expansion of those models are necessary to obtain a satisfactory fit to the rheological characteristics of fruits. Since four to six constants appear in the models, it is very difficult to determine their physical meaning according to the experimental conditions and levels. Therefore in order to ease the comparison of data, this study was conducted to develop the linearized rheological model of the fruit from the previous studies of stress relaxation and creep characteristics of fruits. Stress relaxation and creep characteristics were able to normalize and presented in the linear form of $t/S(t)=K_1+k_2t$ and $t/C(t)={K_1}^{\prime}+{K_2}^{\prime}t$, respectively. It was possible to compare the effects of experimental conditions and levels much easier from the linearized models developed in this study than from the generalized Maxwell model and Burger's model.
Through modeling fault network using thin plate finite element technique in the San Andreas Fault system with slip rate over 1mm/year, as well as elevation, heat flow, earthquakes, geodetic data and crustal thickness, we compare the results with velocity boundary conditions of plate based on the NUVEL-1 plate model and the approximation of deformation in the Great Basin region. The frictional and dislocation creep constants of the crust are calculated to reproduce the observed variations in the maximum depth of seismicity which corresponds to the temperature ranging from $350^{\circ}C$ to $410^{\circ}C$. The rheologic constants are defined by the coefficient of friction on faults, and the apparent activation energy for creep in the lower crust. Two parameters above represent systematic variations in three experiments. The pattern of model indicates that the friction coefficient of major faults is 0.17~0.25. we test whether the weakness of faults is uniform or proportional to net slip. The geologic data show a good agreement when fault weakness is a trend of an additional 30% slip dependent weakening of the San Andreas. The results of study suggest that all weakening is slip dependent. The best models can be explained by the available data with RMS mismatch of as little as 3mm/year, so their predictions can be closely related with seismic hazard estimation, at least along faults where no data are available.
Laboratory creep experiments show that compaction of unconsolidated shale is an irrecoverable process caused by viscous time-dependent deformation. Using Perzyna's viscoplasticity framework combined with the modified Cam-clay theory, we found the constitutive equation expressed in the form of strain rate as a power law function of the ratio between the sizes of dynamic and static yield surfaces. We derived the volumetric creep strain at a constant hydrostatic pressure level as a logarithmic function of time, which is in good agreement with experimental results. The determined material constants indicate that the yield stress of the shale increases by 6% as strain rate rises by an order of magnitude. This demonstrates that the laboratory-based prediction of yield stress (and porosity) may result in a significant error in estimating the properties in situ.
A structural integrity evaluation program (STEP) was developed for the high temperature reactor design evaluation according to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME B&PV), Section III, Rules for Construction of Nuclear Facility Components, Division 5, High Temperature Reactors, Subsection HB. The program computerized HBB-3200 (the design by analysis procedures for primary stress intensities in high temperature services) and Appendix T (HBB-T) (the evaluation procedures for strain, creep and fatigue in high temperature services). For evaluation, the material properties and isochronous curves presented in Section II, Part D and HBB-T were computerized for the candidate materials for high temperature reactors. The program computerized the evaluation procedures and the constants for the weldment. The program can generate stress/temperature time histories of various loads and superimpose them for creep damage evaluation. The program increases the efficiency of high temperature reactor design and eliminates human errors due to hand calculations. Comparisons that verified the evaluation results that used the STEP and the direct calculations that used the Excel confirmed that the STEP can perform complex evaluations in an efficient and reliable way. In particular, fatigue and creep damage assessment results are provided to validate the operating conditions with multiple types of cycles.

The heat sink system for a main board in a network server computer is built on printed circuit board by an anchor structure, mounted by eutectic SnPb solder. The solder creeping is caused by a constant high temperature condition in the computer and it eventually makes fatal failures. The FE model is used to calculate the stress and predict the life of soldered anchor in the computer. In the model, Anand constitutive equation is employed to simulate creep characteristics of solder. The creep test is conducted to verify and calibrate the solder model. A special jig is designed to mitigate the flexure of printed circuit board and to get the creep deformation of solder only in the test. Test results are compared with analysis and calibration is conducted on Anand model's constants. Precise life prediction of soldered anchor in creep condition can be performed by this model.
The creep behavior of gels made with $30{\sim}45%$ gelatinized rice starch was measured over a wide range of temperature. Compressive creep curves of rice starch gels conformed to a six element mechanical model consisting of one Hookean, two Voigt and one Newtonian component. The creep compliance of gels decreased with increasing starch concentrations. Among viscoelastic constants of the mechanical model, elastic modulus was mainly influenced by the change of starch concentrations. The concentration-invariant compliance curve was obtained by reduction to 38% using reduction parameter $a_{c}$. The creep compliance curves of 45% starch gels increased with temperature, which indicated that rice starch gels became softer and less rigid with increasing temperature. When the compliance at $20^{\circ}C$ was set as a reference curve, creep compliance data for 45% gels at various temperature could be superimposed as a continuous smooth curve. The apparent activation energies of 45% rice starch gels calculated by the modified WLF equation were not intrinsic, but decreased as temperature increased.
Deformation is found by an external force in the rock which has internal stress. So, deformation is increased in time what is stressed under constant load. Rock materials collapse suddenly in a long period when the creep rate increases slightly. So mechanical deformability of the ground is an essential condition for determination of long term safety in structures. The result of analysis in 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% of constant load in creep test, strain velocity constants $\alpha$ and ${\gamma}$ increase with load increasement. Griggs equation is more exact than Li and Xia, Singh equation, and G$_2$of a flow constant by Burger's model decreases with stress increasement, but η$_1$,η$_2$and G$_1$ manifest irregularly in this study.
In order to accurately assess the stresses occurring in the early-age concrete, a compliance function which can consider the characteristics of early-age concrete is required. Existing compliance functions, however, have the limit that they have been deduced from the data of hardened concrete and therefore, do not take into account the fast development of material properties in early-age concrete. Furthermore, the distinction between instantaneous compliance and creep compliance is not clear in the existing experimental method. The purpose of present study is to propose a compliance function which can describe the rapid change of hardening processes in early-age concrete. To this end, a test method which can estimate the instantaneous compliance without creep effects in the early-age concrete was suggested first. Based on the suggested experimental method, tests on the instantaneous as well as creep compliance were performed using MTS automatic servo-loop test machine. The test results showed that both instantaneous and aging viscoelastic compliance, which are constants in B3 model, were functions in terms of age of concrete especially at early ages. Therefore, the modified compliance function based on B3 model was proposed to provide more realistic prediction on the behavior of early-age concrete. It is expected that the present model allows more realistic evaluation of varying stresses in concrete structures at early ages.
