The Role of Science Knowledge Application in Improving Engineering Problem Solving Skills

  • This study presents how two types of integrated science and engineering lessons affect students' engineering problem solving skills and their perceptions of engineering. In total, 146 middle school students participated in this study. Eighty-six students participated in the Type I lesson (complete engineering design lesson with a science knowledge application) and 60 students participated in the Type II lesson (engineering design without a science knowledge application). Two main datasets, (1) students' Creative Engineering Problem Solving Propensity (CEPSP) measurement scores and (2) open-ended survey questions about students' perceptions of engineering, were collected before and after the lessons. The results of this study show that after participating in the Type I lesson, students' CEPSP scores significantly increased, whereas the CEPSP scores of the students who participated in the Type II lesson did not increase significantly. In addition, students who participated in the Type I lesson perceived engineering and the engineering integrated science lesson differently compared to the students who participated in the Type II lesson. The results of this study show that engineering integrated science, technology, engineering & mathematics (STEM) lessons should include a complete engineering design and a science knowledge application to improve students' engineering problem solving skills.

4종 창포류의 성분 패턴 및 항산화 효능 비교 (Comparative Study of Changpo(Ch$\={a}$ngp$\'{u}$) species on Antioxidant Activity and HPLC Pattern Analysis)

  • Objective : This study was to compare antioxidant activity and HPLC pattern analysis from 4 species of changpo(ch$\={a}$ngp$\'{u}$). Methods : To compare the antioxidant activity and HPLC pattern analysis from the 4 species of changpo, we performed the in vitro anti-oxidative activity assays and HPLC analysis from 70% ethanol extracts of Acorus gramineus Sol. (=AG), A. tatarinowii Schott (=AT), A. calamus L. (=AC) and Anemone altaica Fisch. ex C.A.Mey (=AA) taken in the herbal medicine market of Korea. Results : AG has the most effective anti-oxidative activity among 4 species of changpo. As the HPLC pattern analysis, AT was detected the unknown peak at retention time 14.9 min whereas AG was not showed any peak at the same retention time. These results suggest that AG could be used rather than AT when it need to be prescribed as anti-oxidative medicine. Conclusions : This result can be used as the basic data contributing to the stability of AG according to an appropriate clinical application.

간호대학생을 위한 창의성기반 창의융합교과목 개발 (Development of Creativity-based Creative and Convergence Subject for Nursing University Students)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 간호대학생을 위한 창의성 기반 창의융합교과목을 개발하는 것이다. 연구의 목적을 위해 Bobbitt의 교육과정 개발 모형에 의해 요구분석, 교육목표 설정, 교육목표 세분화, 교육내용 선정 및 조직의 과정을 거쳐 교과목 내용을 선정하고 전문가의 타당도 검증과정을 거쳐 창의융합교과목을 개발하였다. 창의융합교과목은 이론적 검토를 통해 창의성을 중심으로 다른 분야와 융합하는 교육내용을 구성하였으며 2학점의 교양교과목으로 제시하였고, 교육방법으로서 블랜디드 러닝을 활용한 온라인 수업과 팀별활동 중심의 오프라인 수업을 제시하였다. 또한, 교과과정을 이해, 적용, 종합·심화로 구분하여 학생들이 창의 융합적 사고의 개념을 이해하고 사고기법 및 전략학습 과정을 통해 적용하고 팀별 프로젝트를 통해 창의융합적 사고력을 향상할 수 있도록 하였다.

전통한옥의 도시집합주거로 발전 가능성 연구 (A Study on the Possibility of Model Development from Traditional Han-ok to Urban Clustering Housing Model in Korean Context)

  • A traditional Korean housing is a typical type which is contained life style, spatial organization and scape element of people who lived in Korea. In the hanok, people want to be live not only in human environment and traditional culture, but also modem urban housing as a high density. This article deals as follows: First, Hanok as urban housing would be composed in a housing lot, linear type layout, devide building, and cluster type. Second, Housing unit and configuration of Multi family housing can be used single story, second story, second story + single story, multi story and Hanok roofing. Thirds, structure of the building are traditional wooden, combined one of steel and wood or concrete and wood, and the building system in exterior and interior can be seperated into another system. Forth, Image of multi story Hanok A last, consistency of Hanok is not a repeat of an origin but application and creative aptitude of the origin, and multi family housing application of Hanok can be a trial creative.

중학교 가정과 ‘인간발달과 가족관계’영역에서 Gordon의 창의적 문제해결법의 적용 (The Application of Gordon’s Creative Problem Solving Method(Synectics)to the Area of Human Development and Family Relations among Male Students in A junior High School)

  • The purpose of this research was to apply and conduct a class with Gordon’s Creative Problem Solving Method(Synectics) to the area of ’human development and family relations’among male students in a jr. high school. Subject matters which were appropriate for applying Gordon’s Creative Problem Solving method were selected from ’human development and family relations’area, with problem circumstances set to reflect to the highest degree the interests of individuals and families. An 8 hour teaching instructional guide was constructed with $\boxdr$strategy 1$\boxul$of Gordon’s Creative Problem Solving method in order to solve creatively the established problem. This was practically implied to 70 students(each class had 34 and 36 students respectively) in K middle school located in Seoul. The period of this application was for 3 months during March through May of 1999. The perception of this method was examined by the teachers and students through open-ended questions. The record of perception showed that 56 students out of 70(with no response from 5 students) through that the class done by the creativity problem solving method was good. The majority of reasons mentioned for the positive answers were ’being able to receive different thoughts which were unusual of daily life’. In addition the students who participated in the class were able to foster a joint experience which improved their understanding of relationships and sens of community. moreover students who did not do well n the class or were diffident were encouraged to participate which in result showed that there was even an internal effect.

아시아 기부 문화에 필요한 창조적 파괴 (Creative Destruction in the Culture of Charity is Needed in Asia)

  • 세계가 점점 더 통합됨에 따라 자선단체는 국내 문제 뿐만 아니라 빈곤, 기근, 자연 재해 등 세계 전역에서 일어나는 문제들을 다루게 되었다. 국제적으로 많은 조직들이 도움을 제공하고 이러한 문제들을 완화시키기 위해 노력하고 있지만, Jusoor, Karam Foundation, Save the Children, 그리고 Oxfam 등 대부분의 자선단체들이 서구사회에 기초하고 있다. 이 논문은 동양과 서양 두 지역 사이에 기부 문화 불균형이 존재하는 이유를 분석한다. 이 논문은 지역적 차이를 설명하면서 자선 재단에 대한 아시아인들의 뿌리 깊은 불신과 아시아에서의 자선 기부를 장려하는 정부 정책의 부재, 그리고 추세를 형성하는 다른 여러 사회적, 경제적, 정치적 요인에 특히 초점을 맞추고 있다. 아시아가 세계의 다른 지역에 비해 자선 문화에서 왜, 그리고 얼마나 크게 뒤처지는지를 분석한 결과, 이 논문은 아시아 자선 시장에 "창조적 파괴"가 필요하다는 것을 증명한다. 더 나아가 이 논문은 혁신적인 신생 기업이 새로운 형태의 기술, 즉 등록 파트너쉽 기반을 갖춘 접근하기 쉬운 애플리케이션을 도입하여 정기적으로 앱 사용자들의 기부금 사용처와 금액을 업데이트함으로써 아시아 자선 사업의 신뢰도를 높일 수 있다고 제안한다. 이러한 새로운 형태의 기술은 아시아의 자선 문화를 둘러싼 다른 문제들을 다루는 데 또한 도움이 될 것이다.

지질 관련 야외 학습과 STEAM 교육을 융합한 프로그램 개발 및 적용 효과 (The Development and Application Effects of Convergence Program for Field Trip and STEAM Education related Geology)

  • In this study, a theme-centered STEAM program converged with field trip was developed in the 'The stratum and fossils' unit of elementary science. The objectives were to find the influences on academic achievement, creative problem solving abilities and scientific attitude of elementary school students. The STEAM education program was composed of content which can be applied effectively by converging field trip and STEAM elements. As the results applied the STEAM program to elementary school students, the experimental group improved effectively in the academic achievement, creative problem solving abilities and scientific attitude compared to the control group, which took the theoretical lesson. In conclusion, it is necessary to develop systematically and continuously programs converging STEAM and field trip in various units of science subject which field trip is possible.

초등학교 3학년 '혼합물의 분리' 단원에서 문제해결 과정을 강조한 수업 전략 개발 및 적용 (Development and Application of Teaching Strategy Focused on Problem Solving Process in the 'Separation of Mixture' Unit of Third Grade Elementary School)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a teaching strategy focused on problem solving process and explore its effects on science creative problem solving ability, science process skills, science academic achievements and scientific attitudes of students after applying it. Teaching strategy focused on problem solving process employed brainstorming and PMI thinking strategies. The participants were the third grade students of both an experimental class(26 students) and a comparative class(25 students) at the S elementary school located in Goyang-City, Kyonggi Province. The developed strategy was applied to the experimental class for 9 periods of 'Separation of mixture' unit. The results of the tests on the science creative problem solving ability, the science process skills, scientific achievement and scientific attitude were statistically higher in the experimental class.

정보통신기술교육에서 C-PBL 적용이 창의적 문제해결에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of C-PBL Application on Creative Problem Solving in the Education of Information-Communication Technology)

  • 학습자가 학습의 주도적인 역할을 하고 능동적으로 수행할 수 있는 환경을 구성하여 학습과정에서 창의적 문제해결력이 신장되도록 문제중심학습(Problem-Based Learning : PBL)모형에 창의성과 문제해결을 결합한 창의적 문제해결(Creative Problem Solving : CPS)단계를 통합한 창의적 문제중심학습(Creative Problem-Based Learning : C-PBL)단계를 정보통신기술교육에 적용하여 창의적 문제해결의 효과를 검증하고자 초등학교 3학년 2개 학급을 대상으로 실험집단과 비교집단으로 구성하여 실험하였다. 본 논문은 C-PBL을 적용하여 창의적 문제해결을 위한 수업모형을 일부 제공하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다.

  • As customer needs become diversified, there are many efforts to develop creative ideas on the products to satisfy the customer requirement. Also it is very important to classify the customer requirement to the product's quality. According to the previous study, the idea of the products by collecting opinions and brainstorming is mainly studied in new product development. To create the attractive quality for the product, Kano model has commonly been used. However, the brainstorming in the stage of create ideas has the problem of lower linkage between purpose and idea and lower quality of new idea. Therefore, the paper suggests a way to invent more creative ideas by comparing forced connection method to the brainstorming that is applied to the Kano model.
