Cement-bonded particleboard is being used as outdoor siding material all over the world, because this composite particularly bears a light weight, high resistance against fire, decay, and crack by cyclic freezing and thawing, anti-shock property, and strength enhancement. Construction systems are currently changing into a frame-building style and wooden houses are being constructed with prefabrication type. Therefore, they require a more durability at outdoor-exposed sides. In this study, the cement hydration property for Korean pine particle, Japanese larch particle and face- and middle layer particles (designated as PB particle below) used in Korean particleboard-manufacturing company was investigated, and the rapid manufacturing characteristics of cement-bonded particleboard by supercritical $CO_2$ curing was evaluated. Korean pine flour showed a good hydration property, however, larch flour showed a bad one. PB particle had a better hydration property than larch flour. The addition of $Na_2SiO_3$ indicated a negative effect on hydration, however, $MgCl_2$ had a positive one. Curing by supercritical $CO_2$ fluid gave a conspicuous enhancement in the performances of cement-bonded particleboards compared to conventional curing. $MgCl_2$ 3%-added PB particle had the highest properties, and $MgCl_2$ 1%-added Korean pine particle had the second class with the conditions of cement/wood ratio of 2.7, a small fraction-screened particle and supercritical curing. On the contrary, the composition of non-hammermilled or large fraction-screened particle at cement/wood ratio of 2.2 was poorer. Also, the feasibility for actual use of 3%-added, small PB particle-screened fraction was greatest of all the conventional curing treatments. Relative superiority of supercritical curing vs. conventional curing at dimensional stability was not so apparent as in strength properties. Through the thermogravimetric analysis, it was ascertained that the peak of a component $CaCO_3$ was highest, and the two weak peaks of calcium silicate hydrate and ettringite and $Ca(OH)_2$ were present in supercritical treatment. Accordingly, it was inferred that the increased formation of carbonates in board contributes to strength enhancement.

Tests and analyses were performed in this study to assess the shear strength of Reinforced Concrete(RC) members strengthened by the Near Surface Mounted(NSM) technique in shear, which is drawing attention as an alternative to the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) bonding strengthening technique. Four-point bending tests were performed on 7 RC specimens without any shear reinforcement. The test variables such as the inclination of CFRP strip (45 degrees and 90 degrees), and the spacing of CFRP strip (250mm, 200mm, 150mm, 100mm) were considered. Through the testing scenarios, the effect of each test variable on the failure mode and the shear strength of the RC members strengthened by the NSM technique in shear were assessed. The test results show that the specimens with CFRP strips at 45 degrees go to failure as a result of the strip fracture, but the specimens with CFRP strips at 90 degrees go to failure as a result of the slip of strips. Strips at 45 degrees was the more effective than strips at 90 degrees, not only in terms of increasing beam shear resistance but also in assuring larger deformation capacity at beam failure. In addition, the RBSN analysis appropriately predicted the crack formation and the load-displacement response of the RC members strengthened by the NSM technique in shear.
With the synthesis of hyper crosslinked polymer particle (HCPP), having microporous structure with hydroxyl functional group, synthesized via polymerization reaction consists of three stepssuspension polymerization, hyper crosslinking by Friedel-Craft catalysis and hydrolysis reaction, the effects of the ratio of each monomer, hyper crosslinking conditions and $CO_2$ supercritical drying on the variations of surface morphology, pore size & distribution and BET surface area of HCPP have been investigated. It was observed that the formation of surface crack or fracture of HCPP was intimately related with the degree of hyper crosslinking reaction between microphase separated domains. And the value of BET surface area of HCPP increased with the increase of reaction temperature, time and the amounts of solvent used in hyper crosslinking step. Moreover, $CO_2$ supercritical drying was proven to be a very effective method for removing stabilizer, unreacted monomers and oligomers from HCPP but needed to add methanol as a co-solvent for efficient removing of residual catalyst.

Two main MBE growth techniques have been used: plasma-assisted MBE (PA-MBE), which utilizes a rf plasma to supply active nitrogen, and ammonia MBE, in which nitrogen is supplied by pyrolysis of NH3 on the sample surface during growth. PA-MBE is typically performed under metal-rich growth conditions, which results in the formation of gallium droplets on the sample surface and a narrow range of conditions for optimal growth. In contrast, high-quality GaN films can be grown by ammonia MBE under an excess nitrogen flux, which in principle should result in improved device uniformity due to the elimination of droplets and wider range of stable growth conditions. A drawback of ammonia MBE, on the other hand, is a serious memory effect of NH3 condensed on the cryo-panels and the vicinity of heaters, which ruins the control of critical growth stages, i.e. the native oxide desorption and the surface reconstruction, and the accurate control of V/III ratio, especially in the initial stage of seed layer growth. In this paper, we demonstrate that the reliable and reproducible growth of GaN on Si (110) substrates is successfully achieved by combining two MBE growth technologies using rf plasma and ammonia and setting a proper growth protocol. Samples were grown in a MBE system equipped with both a nitrogen rf plasma source (SVT) and an ammonia source. The ammonia gas purity was >99.9999% and further purified by using a getter filter. The custom-made injector designed to focus the ammonia flux onto the substrate was used for the gas delivery, while aluminum and gallium were provided via conventional effusion cells. The growth sequence to minimize the residual ammonia and subsequent memory effects is the following: (1) Native oxides are desorbed at $750^{\circ}C$ (Fig. (a) for [$1^-10$] and [001] azimuth) (2) 40 nm thick AlN is first grown using nitrogen rf plasma source at $900^{\circ}C$ nder the optimized condition to maintain the layer by layer growth of AlN buffer layer and slightly Al-rich condition. (Fig. (b)) (3) After switching to ammonia source, GaN growth is initiated with different V/III ratio and temperature conditions. A streaky RHEED pattern with an appearance of a weak ($2{\times}2$) reconstruction characteristic of Ga-polarity is observed all along the growth of subsequent GaN layer under optimized conditions. (Fig. (c)) The structural properties as well as dislocation densities as a function of growth conditions have been investigated using symmetrical and asymmetrical x-ray rocking curves. The electrical characteristics as a function of buffer and GaN layer growth conditions as well as the growth sequence will be also discussed. Figure: (a) RHEED pattern after oxide desorption (b) after 40 nm thick AlN growth using nitrogen rf plasma source and (c) after 600 nm thick GaN growth using ammonia source for (upper) [110] and (lower) [001] azimuth.
When calcium sulfoaluminate-based expansive cement was hydrated, ettringite and monosulfate were mainly formed. The crack of hardened cement was prevented by compensating drying shrinkage due to formation of the above hydrates. In order to study the hydration properties of calcium sulfoaluminate-based expanding cement, 3CaOㆍ3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍCaSO$_4$(C$_4$A$_3$S) was prepared by chemical synthesis, and then the hydration of $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$.$2H_2O$-C$_3$A system_was characterized. Good $C_4$A$_3$S phase was prepared at $1300^{\circ}C$ by chemical synthesis, and the main hydration product of $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$.2$H_2O$ system was ettringite. In the case of hydration $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$ㆍ 2$H_2O$-C$_3$A system, ettringite was formed in the early period and it was transformed into monosulfate while consumed gypsum.
Asphalt Plug Joint(APJ) is an buried expansion joint that enabling the smooth connection of expansion gap and road pavement by filling the gap with bituminous mixture of 20% bitumen and 80% aggregate by weight, so it secures evenness and expansion or contraction using the material's properties. Although APJ is designed to have a 6-7 year lifecycle, there are some cases where it is damaged within the first six months. This early damage cause traffic congestion due to frequent repair works, and social cost exceeding the installation cost of the joint. So, in this research, we have developed a new system of Buried Folding Lattice Joint(BFLJ) which can overcome the disadvantages of APJ, and have analyzed and compared it's performance with the conventional APJ through experiment with specimens. As a result of the experiment, APJ had crack formation on both ends of the gap plate, spreading to the surface of the expansion joint. With this result, we can conclude that the reason for early damage is the tension failure due to the concentration of strain in the asphalt mixture along the end of gap plate and the debonding along the joint section. In contrast, the newly developed BFLJ induced even transformation in the joint by applying moving stud and high performance material, and resolved APJ's disadvantage of strain concentration. Therefore, it could be seen that the newly developed BFLJ could overcome the disadvantages of APJ and prevent early damage.
Joining ${Al}_{2}{O}_{3}$ and STS 304 stainless steel by active metal brazing method with using CuI Owt % Ti and Cu -7 .5wt % Zr insert metal, their interfaces were analyzed and strength of the joint brazed with Cu-7.5wt % Zr insert metal also investigated with shear strength testing method. In brazing with Cu-lOwt% Ti insert metal, the single reaction layer was formed by the reaction with Ti and ${Al}_{2}{O}_{3}$ at the interface between ${Al}_{2}{O}_{3}$ and insert metal, but the double reaction layer was found in brazing with Cu-7.5wt % Zr insert metal because of the difference of their wettability on the surface of ${Al}_{2}{O}_{3}$. Fracture shear strength about 86MPa was obtained from ${Al}_{2}{O}_{3}$/Cu-7.5wt% Zr/STS 304 stainless steel joint and reasonable strength of the joints is attributed to the formation of double reaction layer at the interface.
The results of the risk assessing on general buses, consisting mainly of diesel-fueled buses, show that the frequency of the instantaneous release is 1.4${\times}$10$^{-3}$ /bus/year, from which the probability of the formation of fireball as a sub event becomes 1.7${\times}$104, and show that the leakage from the CNG-fueled buses is 0.002 event/year. Also, the frequency of gradual release due to a crack is estimated at 3.7${\times}$10$^{-3}$ /buses/year, and a subsequent probability at which this could lead to a jet flame as a sub event is 1.2${\times}$10$^{-3}$ This corresponds to 0.04event/year for the CNG-fueled buses. Dividing all the fired casualties by the running distance of diesel-fueled buses, the risk is 0.091 fire fatalities per 100-million miles. And the total fire risk fur CNG buses is approximately 0.17 per 100-million miles of travel. This means that CNG buses is twice or more dangerous than diesel buses. After all CNG buses are more susceptible to the major fires. In the aspect of the reliability of this study, generic models and the failure data used in assessing the risks of CNG buses are appropriate. However, more accurate physics-based models and databases should be supplemented with this study to provide the better results.
In Korea, many open-air upper palaeolithic sites are located at the river valley, particularly exposed in gently rotting terrain along the river course. They are situated at an altitude less trail 30 m above present river bottom, and covered with the blankets of slope deposits of several meters in thickness. The purpose of this research is to eluridate depositional and vegetational environment of the alluvial upper palaeolithic Jangheung-ri sites on the basis of analytical properties of grain size population, chronology, palynology, soil chemistry and clay mineralogy and magnetic susceptibility of the Jangheung-ri Quaternary formations. The lithostratograpy of Jangheung-ri sit is subdivided into 3 layers based on the depositional sequence and radiocarbon ages. From bottom to top, they are composed of slope deposits with lower paleosol layers, young fluvial sand and gravel with backswamp organic muds, and upper paleosol layers. The upper paleosol was formed under rather dry climatic condition between each flooding period. Dessication cracks were prevalent in the soil solum which was filled with secondarily minuted fragments due to pedogenetic process. The soil structure shows typical braided-typed cracks in the root part of cracking texture, and more diversified pattern of crackings downward. The young fluvial sand gravel were formed by rather perennial streams after LGM. The main part of organic muds was particularly formed after 15Ka. Local backswamp were flourished with organic muds and graded suspension materials in the flooding muds were intermittently accumulated in the organic muds until ca. 11Ka. This episode was associated with migration of Nam River toward present course. Organic muds were formed in backswamp or local pond. Abies/Picea-Betula with Ranunculaceae, Compositae, Cyperaceae were prevalent. This period is characterized with B$\Phi$lling, Older Dryas, Allerod, and Younger Dryas (MIS-1). Stone artefacts were found in the lower paleosol layers formed as old as 18Ka-22Ka. Based on the artefacts and landscape settings of the Jangheung-ri site, it is presumed that settlement grounds of old people were buried by frequent floodings of old Nam River, the river-beds of which were heavily fluctuated laterally and river-bed erosions were activated from south to north in Jangheung-ri site until the terminal of LGM9ca 17Ka).
Three differing sandstones, two synthetic and one field sample, have been tested ultrasonically under a range of confining pressures and pore pressures representative of in-situ reservoir pressures. These sandstones include: a synthetic sandstone with calcite intergranular cement produced using the CSIRO Calcite In-situ Precipitation Process (CIPS); a synthetic sandstone with silica intergranular cement; and a core sample from the Otway Basin Waarre Formation, Boggy Creek 1 well, from the target lithology for a trial $CO_2$ pilot project. Initial testing was carried on the cores at "room-dried" conditions, with confining pressures up to 65 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. All cores were then flooded with $CO_2$, initially in the gas phase at 6 MPa, $22^{\circ}C$, then with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at a temperature of $22^{\circ}C$ and pressures from 7 MPa to 17 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. Confining pressures varied from 10 MPa to 65 MPa. Ultrasonic waveforms for both P- and S-waves were recorded at each effective pressure increment. Velocity versus effective pressure responses were calculated from the experimental data for both P- and S-waves. Attenuations $(1/Q_p)$ were calculated from the waveform data using spectral ratio methods. Theoretical calculations of velocity as a function of effective pressure for each sandstone were made using the $CO_2$ pressure-density and $CO_2$ bulk modulus-pressure phase diagrams and Gassmann effective medium theory. Flooding the cores with gaseous phase $CO_2$ produced negligible change in velocity-effective stress relationships compared to the dry state (air saturated). Flooding with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at various pore pressures lowered velocities by approximately 8% on average compared to the air-saturated state. Attenuations increased with liquid-phase $CO_2$ flooding compared to the air-saturated case. Experimental data agreed with the Gassmann calculations at high effective pressures. The "critical" effective pressure, at which agreement with theory occurred, varied with sandstone type. Discrepancies are thought to be due to differing micro-crack populations in the microstructure of each sandstone type. The agreement with theory at high effective pressures is significant and gives some confidence in predicting seismic behaviour under field conditions when $CO_2$ is injected.
