  • There have been persistent civil appeals in Ansan area against the odor and aerosols emitted from nearby Banwol/Sihwa industrial complex. A fundamental solution for the good air quality has not been addressed yet in spite of the continuous counterplan to reduce odor emission. A systematic and scientific study is needed to examine the reason for the odor episode and to predict the impact coverage of odor pollution. An approach by computational simulation is considered to be adequate to investigate the transportation and the dispersion processes of air pollutants blown by sea breeze toward the coastal city, Ansan. This study has employed various dispersion models to simulate the transportation and the dispersion processes of odor pollutants by a local circulation between land/sea breeze using the data set of emission rates of odorous species from the Banwol/Sihwa industrial complex.

  • Subjects on one side of the covariate population can be allocated to the inferior treatment when there is interaction between the covariate and treatment along with a response-adaptive (RA) design without covariate adjustment. An RA design allows a newly entered subject to have a better chance so that the subject is treated by a superior treatment based on cumulative information from previous subjects. A covariate-adjusted response-adaptive (CARA) is the same as RA design and additionally adjusts the allocation based on individual covariate information. A comparison has been made for the sequential estimation procedure with and without covariate adjustment to see how ignoring significantly interactive covariate affects the correct treatment allocation. Using logistic models, we present simulation results regarding the coverage probability of treatment effect, correct allocation, and stopping time.

  • To verify the trustworthiness of messages, public key certificates and certificate revocation list(CRL) has been standardized for vehicular networks. However, timely distribution of large CRLs to vehicles should be more elaborated with low bandwidth utilization from a practical point of view. To address this concern, we propose a CRL distribution scheme using long term evolution(LTE) point-to-multicast transmission, namely the enhanced multimedia broadcast multicast service(eMBMS). The schem is much more resource efficient than the existing unicast CRL distribution schemes for vehicular networks and it allows realizing the regional CRL distribution schemes efficiently in LTE network. By means of ns-3 simulation, we analyze the performance, latency, and execution time of the scheme in terms of varying coverage of the multimedia broadcast multicast service over single frequency network (MBFSN).

  • In this paper, we develop the noninformative priors for the common shape parameter of several inverse Gaussian distributions. Specially, we want to develop noninformative priors which satisfy certain objective criterion. The probability matching priors and reference priors of the common shape parameter will be developed. It turns out that the second order matching prior does not exist. The reference priors satisfy the first order matching criterion, but Jeffrey's prior is not the first order matching prior. We showed that the proposed reference prior matches the target coverage probabilities in a frequentist sense through simulation study, and an example based on real data is given.

  • In this paper, we optimize the base station placement and transmission power using genetic approach. A new representation describing base station placement and transmit power with real number is proposed, and new genetic operators are introduced. This new representation can describe the locations, powers, and number of base stations, Considering coverage, power and economy efficiency, we also suggest a weighted objective function. Our algorithm is applied to an obvious optimization problem, and then it is verified. Moreover, our approach is tried in inhomogeneous traffic distribution. Simulation result proves that the algorithm enables to fad near optimal solution according to the weighted objective function.

  • For mobile wireless systems with full frequency reuse, co-channel interference near the cell coverage boundaries has a significant impact on the signal reception performance. This paper addresses an approach to efficiently mitigate the effect of downlink co-channel interference when multi-antenna terminals are used in cellular environments, by proposing a signal detection strategy combined with a system-level coordination for dynamic frequency reuse. We demonstrate the utilization of multi-antennas to perform spatial demultiplexing of both the desired signal and interfering signals from adjacent cells results in significant improvement of spectral efficiency compared to the maximal ratio combining (MRC) performance, especially when an appropriate frequency reuse based on the traffic loading condition is coordinated among cells. Both analytic expressions for the capacity and experimental results using the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) are used to confirm the performance gain. The robustness of the proposed scheme against varying operational conditions such as the channel estimation error and shadowing effects are also verified by simulation results.

  • In this paper, we develop the noninformative priors for the reliability in a stress-strength model where a strength X and a stress Y have independent exponential distributions with different scale parameters and a common location parameter. We derive the reference priors and prove the propriety of joint posterior distribution under the general prior including the reference priors. Through the simulation study, we show that the proposed reference priors match the target coverage probabilities in a frequentist sense.

  • As the feature sizes and the operating charges continue to be scaled down, multi-bit soft errors are becoming more critical in SRAM designs of a few nanometers. In this paper, we propose an efficient error detection technique to reduce the size of parity bits by applying a 2D bit-interleaving technique to 3D bit-partitioned SRAM devices. Our proposed bit-interleaving technique uses only 1/K (where K is the number of dies) parity bits, compared with conventional bit-interleaving structures. Our simulation results show that 1/K parity bits are needed with only a 0.024-0.036% detection error increased over that of the existing bit-interleaving method. It is also possible for our technique to improve the burst error coverage, by adding more parity bits.

  • The estimation problem of expected time to failure of units is studied in a discrete set up. A simple step-stress accelerated life testing is considered with a Type-I censored sample from geometric distribution that is a commonly used distribution to model the lifetime of a device in discrete case. Maximum likelihood estimators as well as the associated distributions are derived. Exact, approximate and bootstrap approaches construct confidence intervals that are compared via a simulation study. Optimal confidence intervals are suggested in view of the expected width and coverage probability criteria. An illustrative example is also presented to explain the results of the paper. Finally, some conclusions are stated.

  • We propose a semi-parametric model to analyze clustered and interval-censored data; in addition, we plugged-in a gamma frailty to the model to measure the association of members within the same cluster. We propose an estimation procedure based on EM algorithm. Simulation results showed that our estimation procedure may result in unbiased estimates. The standard error is smaller than expected and provides conservative results to estimate the coverage rate; however, this trend gradually disappeared as the number of members in the same cluster increased. In addition, our proposed method was illustrated with data taken from diabetic retinopathy studies to evaluate the effectiveness of laser photocoagulation in delaying or preventing the onset of blindness in individuals with diabetic retinopathy.
