Changes in antimicrobial peptide-lipid mixtures were investigated using 31P solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. An antimicrobial peptide, protegrin-1, and phosphatidylcholine were deposited on a thin cover glass and incubated under a relative humidity of 95%. The changes in the mixtures were observed after hydration or air-drying. How repetitive hydration and drying changed the phase of the sample was also observed. The degrees of disruption of the well-aligned bilayers of phosphatidylcholine were determined quantitatively by simulating the experimental spectra. The peptide-lipid mixtures changed reversibly after hydration and drying, and the samples reached an equilibrium state after several repetitions.

This paper presents the fabrication and evaluation of mechanical behavior for a peristaltic micropump by flow simulation. The valve-less micropump using the diffuser/nozzle is consists of the lower plate, the middle plate, the upper plate and the tube that connects inlet and outlet of the pump. The lower plate includes the channel and the chamber, and the plain middle plate are made of glass and actuated by the piezoelectric translator. Channels and a chamber on the lower plate are fabricated on high processability silicon wafer by the DRIE(Deep Reactive Ion Etching) process. The upper plate does the roll of a pump cover and has inlet/outlet/electric holes. Three plates are laminated by the aligner and bonded by the anodic bonding process. Flow simulation is performed using error-reduced finite volume method (FVM). As results of the flow simulation and experiments, the single chamber pump has severe flow problems, such as a backflow and large fluctuation of a flow rate. It is proved that the double-chamber micropump proposed in this paper can reduce the drawback of the single-chamber one.

As packaging processes for atomic gyroscope vapor cells, the glass tube tip-off process, anodic bonding, and paste sealing have been widely studied. However, there are stability issues in the alkali metal which are caused by impurity elements and leakage during high-temperature processes. In this study, we investigated the applicability of a vapor cell low-temperature packaging process by depositing Au on a Pyrex cell in addition to forming an Au-Sn thin film on a cap to cover the cell, followed by laser irradiation of the Au/Au-Sn interface. The mechanism of the thin film bonding was evaluated by XRD, while the packaging reliability of an Ne gas-filled vapor cell was characterized by variation of plasma discharge behavior with time. Furthermore, we confirmed that the Rb alkaline metal inside the vapor cell showed no color change, indicating no oxidation occurred during the process.
KESF-1 foot conceptually provides storage of potential energy and is converted to kinetic energy throughout the weight - bearing phase of the gait cycle. This stored energy is progressively released as the foot continues through the toe-off phase to rebound and propel the body forward. A weight deflects the keel through a predetermined range, then the keel "springs back" as weight is removed. Foot designs criteria were selected to guide development beyond the proof-of concept composite material keels; 1) store and return energy (1-3/4 " metatarsal deflection at 435 pounds vertical load), 2) natural feel and stability; 3) useful life of 3-years: 4) lightweight; 5) reduced production costs. The purpose of this study is developed the comfortable stable foot that fitted with Korean lifestyle and road condition. The results produced the realistic cosmetic foot cover with polyurethane form and the keel composed with composite materials of both glass fiber and carbon fiber.

Randomly patterned and wet chemical etching processes were used to treat anti-glare of display cover glasses. The surface and optical properties of grain size and surface morphology controlled by randomly patterned etching and wet chemical solution etching were investigated. The surface morphology and roughness of the etched samples were examined using a spectrophotometer and a portable surface roughness (Ra) measuring instrument, respectively. The gloss caused by reflection from the glass surface was measured at $60^{\circ}$ using a gloss meter. The surface of the sample etched by the doctor-blade process was more uniform than that obtained from a screen pattern etching process at gel state etching process of the first step. The surface roughness obtained from the randomly patterned etching process depended greatly on the mesh size, which in turn affected the grain size and pattern formation. The surface morphology and gloss obtained by the etching process in the second step depended primarily on the mesh size of the gel state etching process of the first step. In our experimental range, the gloss increased on decreasing the grain size at a lower mesh size for the first step process and for longer reaction times for the second step process.

A control system for ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition was developed that can coat a large size glass panel with a transparent conductive oxide. It consists of several ultrasonic atomizer devices to cover a large area and a host computer for individually controlling the devices. The sub-controller in an ultrasonic atomizer device can adjust the flow rate of the atomized conductive oxide gas by setting the flow rate of the solution and regulating the level of the solution in the tank. To construct a feedback control loop for level regulation, a level sensor that utilized an infrared distance sensor and an electric circuit for adjusting the ultrasonic oscillator were developed. The host program was also developed, which can monitor and control the sub-controllers. A proportional-integral controller was developed for a simplified model, and its operation was verified through an experiment.
A Magneto-Optical Trap (MOT) for $^{87}Rb$ atoms near the surface of a dielectric coated mirror at the top of a small $20{\times}25{\times}40\;mm^3$ cell has been observed. Two beams of $3.3\;mW/cm^2$ were used for optical cooling and an anti-Helmholtz magnetic field with a spatial gradient of 9.1 G/cm was used for magnetic trapping. The thickness of the mirror coated on a cover glass was less than $100{\mu}m$. The mirror covered the top of a cell and the atom-chip was located outside the vacuum in order to exploit the long life time of the mirror and easy operation of the chip. The trapping position was found 5 mm beneath the mirror surface. The number of trapped atoms was roughly $3{\times}10^7$ atoms and the temperature was approximately a few tens mK. In this paper, we describe the construction of the mirror-MOT in detail.

The main objective of this paper was to illuminate the effect of marine environmental condition on durability of reinforced concrete (RC)-corroded columns strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) layers. Small-scale columns were prepared and corroded by an accelerated corrosion process. After strengthening, compressive strength tests were carried out on control and weathered specimens. In this research, a marine simulator was designed and constructed similar to the tidal zone of marine environment in south of Iran which was selected as a case study in this research. Mechanical properties of wrapped specimens were studied after placing them inside the simulator for 3000 hours. Marine environment decreased ultimate strength by 4.5% and 26.3% in CFRP and GFRP-wrapped columns, respectively. In some corroded-columns, strengthening was carried out after replacing damaged cover by self-compacted mortar. In this method, by confining with one layer of CFRP and GFRP, 4.2% and 22.4% reduction in ultimate strength was observed, respectively, after exposure. Furthermore, the elastic-brittle behavior has been verified in this retrofit method. Also results of tension tests revealed, the ultimate tensile strength was degraded by 2% and 28.8% in CFRP and GFRP sheets, respectively, after applying marine exposure.
In this study the contralateral breast skin dose was decreased. It was to apply the results to the clinical study after analysis of different radiation dose amounts to contralateral breast with nonmagnetic bolus and without nonmagnetic bolus. A Rando phantom was computed tomography (CT) simulated, five treatment plans were generated: open tangents, open field in field, wedge 15, wedge 30, and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) plan with 50.4 Gy to cover sufficient breast tissue. Contralateral breast skin dose was measured at 8 points using a glass dosimeter. The average contralateral breast dose using nonmagnetic bolus showed better excellence in decreasing the absorbed dose in the order of $168{\pm}11.1$ cGy, $131{\pm}10.2$ cGy (29%), $112{\pm}9.7$ cGy (49%), and $102{\pm}9.5$ cGy (64%) than changing the treatment plan. This study focused on decreasing the effect of scattered dose by use of a nonmagnetic bolus on the contralateral breast during radiotherapy in breast cancer patients and an intriguingly significant decrease was observed parallel to the opposed beam.

In this study, specimens with nano-sized porous thin films were manufactured by injecting fluorescence solution into the pores. We intended to find out the difference of the fluorescence intensity in each region of the specimen through an experimental apparatus that makes a temperature field. Before conducting experiments, the optimized manufacturing conditions were determined by analysis of all parameters that influence the emission intensity, and the experiments were carried out with the specimens produced in the optimized conditions. Then, the calibration curves of the fluorescence intensity versus temperature were performed by taking the intensity distributions from the specimen in various temperature fields. The surfaces of specimens were coated with Rhodamine-B (Rh-B) fluorescent dye and measured based on the fluorescence intensity. Silica (SiO2) nanoporous structure with 1-um thickness was constructed on a cover glass, and fluorescence dye was absorbed into these porous thin films.
