Electric-field coupled power transfer (ECPT) systems employ a high frequency electric field as an energy medium to transfer power wirelessly. Existing ECPT systems have made great progress in terms of increasing the transfer distance. However, the topologies of these systems are complex, and the transfer characteristics are very sensitive to variations in the circuit parameters. This paper proposes an ECPT system with a double-sided LC network, which employs a parallel LC network on the primary side and a series LC network on the secondary side. With the same transfer distance and output power, the proposed system is simpler and less sensitive than existing systems. The expression of the optimal driving voltage for the coupling structure and the characteristics of the LC networks are also analyzed, including the transfer efficiency, parameter sensitivity and total harmonic distortion. Then, a design method for the system parameters is provided according to these characteristics. Simulations and experiments have been carried out to verify the system properties and the design method.
In magnetically coupled resonant (MCR) wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, the introduction of additional intermediate coils is an effective means of improving transmission characteristics, including output power and transmission efficiency, when the transmission distance is increased. However, the position of intermediate coils in practice influences system performance significantly. In this research, a three-coil MCR WPT system is adopted as an exemplification for determining how the spatial position of coils affects transmission characteristics. With use of the fundamental harmonic analysis method, an equivalent circuit model of the system is built to reveal the relationship between the output power, the transmission efficiency, and the spatial scales, including the axial, lateral, and angular misalignments of the intermediate and receiving coils. Three cases of transmission characteristics versus different spatial scales are evaluated. Results indicate that the system can achieve relatively stable transmission characteristics with deliberate adjustments in the position of the intermediate and receiving coils. A prototype of the three-coil MCR WPT system is built and analyzed, and the experimental results are consistent with those of the theoretical analysis.
The foundation of offshore wind energy system is generally assumed to be fixed-ended in system analysis for the convenience of calculation and, correspondingly, it might lead a conservative design. If soil-foundation interaction get involved with the analysis, the system characteristics such as natural frequency, shear force, moment and displacement are expected to differ from those of fixed-ended case. In this study, the analysis have been conducted to identify how the response of offshore wind turbine varies upon considering the foundation flexibility with soil-foundation interaction. The model taking account of the flexibility of foundation was compared with fixed-ended model at the seabed. The flexibilities of foundation were obtained by coupled spring model at the seabed and Winkler Spring Model with soil depth. As a result, the first mode of the whole system with the Winkler Spring Model was decreased relative to that with the fixed-ended model. The results showed that the effect of foundation flexibility should be considered when designing the offshore wind energy system.

Ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) systems have become an efficient alternative to conventional cooling and heating methods due to their higher energy using efficiency. Although some experimental and simulation works related to performance analysis of GCHP systems for commercial buildings have been done, relatively little has been reported on the performance evaluation of GCHP systems for school buildings. The purpose of this simulation study is to evaluate the performance of a hypothetical GCHP system for a school building in Seoul. We collected various data of building specifications and construction materials for the building and then modeled to calculate hourly building loads with SketchuUp and TRNSYS V17. In addition, we used GLD (Ground Loop Design) V2016, a GCHP system design and simulation software, to design the GCHP system for the building and to simulate temperature of circulating water in ground heat exchanger. The variation of entering source temperature (EST) into the system was calculated with different prediction time and then each result was compared. For 20 years of prediction time, EST for baseline design (Case A) based on the hourly simulation results were outranged from the design criteria.
In order to operate the hydraulic structures efficiently for reducing flood damage after 4 Major River Restoration Project, it is essential to obtain enough hydraulic information with certain reliability. A coupled modeling system, providing spatial hydraulic information, for multi-dimensional hydraulic models was developed to complement 1-D hydraulic modeling. Developed system can offers spatial and grid unit information as well as line and section unit information from 1-D modeling. It is considered that the coupled modeling system can be used to provide various kinds of hydraulic information for river management and treatment.

Sudden voltage drops and outages frequently disturb the operation of sensitive loads for domestic, commercial, and industrial use. In some cases, these events may even impair the functioning of relevant equipment. To maintain power under such conditions, a UPS system is usually installed. Once a disturbance happens at the grid side, the line-interactive UPS system takes over the load to prevent an interruption. But, due to magnetic saturation of the transformer, a significant inrush current may occur for the transformer-coupled loads during this transition. The generation of such transient currents may in turn decrease the line voltage and activates over-current protecting devices of the system. In this work, a cost-effective, line-interactive UPS system is proposed that eliminates the inrush current phenomenon associated with transformer-coupled loads. The strategy was implemented by connecting a standard current-regulated voltage source inverter (CRVSI) to the secondary winding of the load transformer. During any transient condition at the grid side, the load current is monitored and regulated to achieve either seamless compensation of the load current or complete transferal of load from grid to the inverter. Experimental results were obtained for a prototype under all possible operating conditions so as to validate the performance of the proposed topology.
To study interactions between $C_{4}$-dicarboxylic acid transport protein D and E$\sigma$$^{54}$ in the dctA promoter regulatory region, we used the challenge phage system. An ant'-`lac fusion was recombined onto the challenge phage, and this ant'-`lac fusion along with Pant and the R. meliloti dctA promoter regulatory region were cloned onto a plasmid. The plasmid bearing the ant'-`lac fusion was used as a reporter plasmid in a coupled transcription-translation system. Addition of purified $\sigma$$^{54}$ to the coupled system specifically repressed transcription of the plasmid-borne ant'-`lac fusion. When DCTD was added along with $\sigma$$^{54}$ to the coupled system, transcription of the ant'-`lac fusion was even further repressed, suggesting that DCTD may stabilize closed complexes between E$\sigma$$^{54}$ and the dctA promoter.

Ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) systems utilize the immense renewable storage capacity of the ground as a heat source or sink to provide space heating, cooling, and domestic hot water. The main objective of the present study is to investigate the cooling and heating performance of a small scale GCHP system with horizontal ground heat exchanger (HGHE). In order to evaluate the performance, a water-to-air ground-source heat pump unit connected to a test room with a net floor area of 18.4 m2 and a volume of 64.4 m3 in the Korea Institute of Construction Technology ($37^{\circ}39'N$, $126^{\circ}48'E$) was designed and constructed. This GCHP system mainly consisted of slinky-type HGHE with a total length of 400 m, indoor heat pump, and measuring devices. The peak cooling and heating loads of the test room were 5.07 kW and 4.12 kW, respectively. The experimental results were obtained from March 15, 2011 to August 31, 2011 and the performance coefficients of the system were determined from the measured data. The overall seasonal performance factor (SPF) for cooling was 3.31 while the system delivered heating at a daily average performance coefficients of 2.82.

We report on characteristics of specially designed inductively-coupled-plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) system for top-emitting organic light emitting diodes (TOLEDs). Using high-density plasma on the order of $10^{11}$ electrons/$cm^3$ generated by linear-type antennas connected in parallel and specially designed substrate cooling system, a 100 nm-thick transparent $SiN_{x}$ passivation layer was deposited on thin Mg-Ag cathode layer at substrate temperature below $50\;^{\circ}C$ without a noticeable plasma damage. In addition, substrate-mask chucking system equipped with a mechanical mask aligner enabled us to pattern the $SiN_x$ passivation layer without conventional lithography processes. Even at low substrate temperature, a $SiN_x$ passivation layer prepared by ICP-CVD shows a good moisture resistance and transparency of $5{\times}10^{-3}g/m^2/day$ and 92 %, respectively. This indicates that the ICP-CVD system is a promising methode to substitute conventional plasma enhanced CVD (PECVD) in thin film passivation process.

In order to analyze the nonlinear phenomena of the bifurcation and chaos caused by the switching of nonlinear switching devices in inductively coupled power transfer (ICPT) systems, a Jacobian matrix model, based on discrete mapping numerical modeling, is established to judge the system stability of the periodic closed orbit and to study the nonlinear behavior of Hopf bifurcation in a system under full resonance. The general flow of the parameter design, based on the stability principle for ICPT systems, is proposed to avoid the chaos and bifurcation phenomena caused by unreasonable parameter selection. Firstly, based on the state equation of SS-type compensation, a three-dimensional bifurcation diagram with the coupling coefficient as the bifurcation parameter is established with a numerical simulation to observe the nonlinear phenomena in the system. Then Filippov's method based on a Jacobian matrix model is adopted to deduce the boundary of stable operation and to judge the type of the bifurcation in the system. Then the general flow of the parameter design based on the stability principle for ICPT systems is proposed through the above analysis to realize stable operation under the conditions of weak coupling. Finally, an experimental platform is built to confirm the correctness of the numerical simulation and modeling.
