몬테카를로 방법을 적용한 bed type 전신계측기의 방사선작업종사자 외부오염 검출 응용 (Application of the Detection of External Contamination on Radiation Workers for Bed Type Whole Body Counting Using Monte Carlo Method)

  • 원전 방사선작업종사자의 내부선량평가를 위해 일반적으로 사용되고 있는 bed type 전신계측에 몬테카를로 방법을 적용하여 작업자에 대한 외부오염 계측특성을 평가하였다. 한국인 체형을 반영하는 voxel 모의 피폭체를 이용하여 내부오염시 측정 특성을 평가하였다. 외부오염 판별을 위해 BOMAB 모의 피폭체를 이용하여 신체 각 부위별 오염시 나타나는 측정 특성을 평가하였다. 가슴 부위 오염시 누운 자세와 엎드린 자세로 구분하여 외부오염시 계측 특성을 확인하였다. 정량적인 분석을 통해 bed type 전신계측기를 이용한 외부오염 판별이 가능함을 확인하였다.

Novel Architecture for Efficient Implementation of Dimmable VPPM in VLC Lightings

  • In this paper, a new architecture is proposed to achieve complexity efficiency in implementing variable pulse position modulation (VPPM). VPPM, specified in IEEE 802.15.7, can support wireless communication and dimming control simultaneously using visible light. The proposed architecture is based on the VPPM signal property in which the transition point of the modulated output is obtained by counting the sample index and comparing it to both the assigned dimming factor and the transmitting data. Therefore, the proposed architecture can be composed of simple logics, including a counter, a comparator, and an inverter, all of which are insensitive to the dimming resolution in contrast to a conventional codeword-table method. This paper describes the verification of the proposed algorithm through a register-transfer level implementation of the codeword and proposed architectures. In comparison with the codeword-table method, the proposed method gains a nine-fold complexity reduction at a 1% dimming-step resolution.

$^{133}Ba$ 용액의 방사능 절대측정의 국제비교 (International Comparison of Absolute Activity Measurement of $^{133}Ba$ Solution)

  • 전자포획 핵종인 $^{133}Ba$ 용액의 방사능 측정이 ${\beta}-{\gamma}$ 동시계수 방법에 의하여 수행되었다. $4{\pi}$ 비례계수기와 두개의 NaI(Tl) 섬광검출기를 사용하여 베타, 감마 및 동시계수 채널에서 계수율을 측정하였다. 효율외삽법으로 산출된 용액의 비 방사능은 기준시간(1984년 3월 15일 0시, UT)에 대하여 $(1151.01{\pm})2.99)\;kBq{\cdot}g^{-1}$이었다. 국제도량형국이 주관한 방사능 측정의 국제비교에 의하면, 이 결과는 그 비교에서 얻어진 평균값에 대하여 약 0.84%의 차이를 나타냈다.

  • Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the noninvasive method to diagnose osteoporosis disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue. Many global companies and research groups have developed the various DXA detectors using a direct photon-counting detector such as a cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) sensor. However, this approach using CZT sensor has some drawback such as the limitation of scalability by high cost and the loss of efficiency due to the requirement of a thin detector. In this study, a SiPM based DXA system was developed and its performance evaluated experimentally. The DXA detector was composed of a SiPM sensor coupled with a single LYSO scintillation crystal (3 × 3 × 2 ㎣). The prototype DXA detector was mounted on the dedicated front-end circuit consisting of a voltage-sensitive preamplifier, pulse shaping amplifier and constant fraction discriminator (CFD) circuit. The SiPM based DXA detector showed the 34% (at 59 keV) energy resolution with good BMD accuracy. The proposed SiPM based DXA detector showed the performance comparable to the conventional DXA detector based on CZT.

Dimmable Spatial Intensity Modulation for Visible-light Communication: Capacity Analysis and Practical Design

  • Multiple LED arrays can be utilized in visible-light communication (VLC) to improve communication efficiency, while maintaining smart illumination functionality through dimming control. This paper proposes a modulation scheme called "Spatial Intensity Modulation" (SIM), where the effective number of turned-on LEDs is employed for data modulation and dimming control in VLC systems. Unlike the conventional pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM), symbol intensity levels are not determined by the amplitude levels of a VLC signal from each LED, but by counting the number of turned-on LEDs, illuminating with a single amplitude level. Because the intensity of a SIM symbol and the target dimming level are determined solely in the spatial domain, the problems of conventional PAM-based VLC and related MIMO VLC schemes, such as unstable dimming control, non uniform illumination functionality, and burdens of channel prediction, can be solved. By varying the number and formation of turned-on LEDs around the target dimming level in time, the proposed SIM scheme guarantees homogeneous illumination over a target area. An analysis of the dimming capacity, which is the achievable communication rate under the target dimming level in VLC, is provided by deriving the turn-on probability to maximize the entropy of the SIM-based VLC system. In addition, a practical design of dimmable SIM scheme applying the multilevel inverse source coding (MISC) method is proposed. The simulation results under a range of parameters provide baseline data to verify the performance of the proposed dimmable SIM scheme and applications in real systems.

Quantification of the ichthyotoxic raphidophyte Chattonella marina complex by applying a droplet digital PCR

  • Quantifying the abundance of Chattonella species is necessary to effectively manage the threats from ichthyotoxic raphidophytes, which can cause large-scale mortality of aquacultured fish in temperate waters. The identification and cell counting of Chattonella species have been conducted primarily on living cells without fixation by light microscopy because routine fixatives do not retain their morphological features. Species belonging to the Chattonella marina complex, including C. marina and C. marina var. ovata, had high genetic similarities and the lack of clear morphological delimitations between the species. To estimate the abundance of C. marina complex in marine plankton samples, we developed a protocol based on the droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) assay, with C. marina complex-specific primers targeting the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the rDNA. Cell abundance of the C. marina complex can be determined using the ITS copy number per cell, ranging from 25 ± 1 for C. marina to 112 ± 7 for C. marina var. ovata. There were no significant differences in ITS copies estimated by the ddPCR assay between environmental DNA samples from various localities spiked with the same number of cells of culture strains. This approach can be employed to improve the monitoring efficiency of various marine protists and to support the implementation of management for harmful algal blooms, which are difficult to analyze using microscopy alone.

지하수 중 라듐-226의 분석방법 및 환경 특성에 관한 예비 연구 (A Preliminary Study for the Analytical Method and Environmental Characteristics of Radium-226 in Groundwater)

  • $^{226}Ra$ in groundwater could be analyzed by various methods. LSC (liquid scintillation counter) is used to measure its activity of Ba co-precipitates with Hisafe III scintillation cocktail solution. Counting efficiency was obtained using NIST $^{226}Ra$ standard solution in triplicate and calculated $^{226}Ra$ concentration using the efficiency values. $^{226}Ra$ values of 19 groundwaters having Gross-${\alpha}$ concentrations of more than 5 pCi/L ranged from ND (${\leq}$ 0.1 pCi/L) to 1.18 pCi/L. Geologic settings of the 19 areas are composed of granitic rocks of Pre-Cambrian and Jurassic and Cretaceous, gneiss (schist) of Pre-Cambrian, and volcanic rocks of Cretaceous. No relationship was shown among $^{226}Ra$ a concentrations and in-situ water quality data, and Gross-${\alpha}$, uranium, radon concentrations.

Fused Polypeptide with DEF Induces Apoptosis of Lung Adenocarcinoma Cells

  • To analyze the effects of a new unknown peptide DEF on the growth of tumor cells, a fused polypeptide TAT-DV1-DEF was designed and synthesized. The lung adenocarcinoma cell line GLC-82 treated with TAT-DV1-DEF was analyzed with a cell counting kit 8, and the location of polypeptides in cells was observed under laser confocal microscopy. The efficiency of polypeptide transfection and changes in nuclear morphology were analyzed by flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy, respectively. Finally, the mechanism of tumor cell growth inhibition was evaluated by Western blotting. We found that TAT-DV1-DEF could significantly inhibit the growth of the lung adenocarcinoma cell line GLC-82, but not the normal human embryonic kidney cell line HEK-293. Polypeptides were found to be mostly localized in the cytoplasm and some mitochondria. The efficiency of polypeptide transfection in the two cell types was approximately 99%. Apoptotic nuclei were observed under fluorescence microscopy upon treatment with polypeptides and DAPI staining. Western blot analyses indicated that the polypeptide inhibition of tumor cell growth was apoptosis dependent. In the present study, we demonstrated that fused polypeptides could induce apoptosis of the lung adenocarcinoma cell line GLC-82, indicating that the new unknown peptide DEF has antitumor effects.

CZT검출기를 이용한 CT/SPECT 조합영상시스템 (Combined X-ray CT/SPECT System with a Common CZT Detector)

  • CdZnTe 검출기를 제작하고 CT/SPECT 조합영상 시스템에 설치하여 엑스선 및 감마선검출기로서의 응용가능성을 타진해 보았다. 검출기의 크기는 10$\times$10$\times$5 ㎣ 이었다. 양극은 4$\times$4 픽셀로 설계하였으며 각 픽셀의 크기는 $1.5\times$l.5 $\textrm{mm}^2$ 이었다. 음극은 Au로 전극을 만들어 주었다. 시스템의 성능을 조사하기 위해서 방사선촬영용 분해능팬텀과 호프만 뇌 팬텀을 사용하였다. X선 영상에서 고광자방출율을 만족시키기 위해서 shapping time은 50ns 로 하었으며, 3$\times$$10^{5}$ counts/s 까지 선형성이 유지되었다. Tc-99m의 140 keV 감마선에 대한 에너지 분해능은 50 ㎱와 2 $\mu\textrm{s}$ shaping time을 걸어주었을 때 각각 10.4%와 5.3%이었다. CT와 SPECT의 공간분해능은 각각 1 mm와 9 mm 이었다. 광피이크 효율은 50 ㎱와 2 $\mu\textrm{s}$일 때 각각 41.0%와 72.5%이었다.

다양한 영상크기에 적합한 나눗셈기를 사용하지 않은 가변적 평균기의 설계 (Design of Variable Average Operation without the Divider for Various Image Sizes)

  • 본 논문은 WDR(Wide Dynamic Range)의 구현을 위한, 나눗셈기를 사용하지 않은 가변적 평균기의 설계에 관한 것이다. 이전에 제안하였던 평균기 [5]는 나눗셈기를 곱셈기로 대체함으로써 하드웨어의 복잡도 및 하드웨어 자원의 효율성을 향상시켰다. 하지만 기존에 제안한 구조는 가로와 세로의 길이를 측정하고, 사용자에 의해 Mode에 설정되어 있는 기본 영상의 크기와 정확히 일치할 경우에만 동작이 가능하다는 단점이 있었다. 본 논문은 이러한 기존 평균기의 단점을 보완하기 위하여, 영상의 전체 크기를 이용하여 Mode를 선택하도록 하였다. 또한 특정 크기의 영상에만 적용되는 것이 아니라 다양한 크기의 영상에 대해서도 적용 가능하도록 제안한다. 특히, 보다 정확한 평균값을 구하기 위하여 외부 보상 값을 추가하였다. Verilog-HDL을 이용하여 설계하였으며, 합성결과를 통해 Serial multiplier의 구조가 좀 더 하드웨어 크기와 자원의 효율성이 높은 것을 확인하였다.
