  • This study aims to examine the operating status of the Farmer's Health Center Project and the validity of its business using the benefit-cost analysis. As the pilot project of the Rural Development Adminstration from 1996, a total of 884 Farmer's Health Centers were established until 2004. Internal information of the RDA management unit was used for the analysis. A questionnaire with an interview was also performed with 70 over 468 Centers that had been established from 2001 to 2004. Results were as follows. 1) The Center was mainly used by elderly over 60 years, which took 71.4%. Winter was the most popular season for visiting. 2) Approximately 71% of the manager of the Center pointed out the deficiency of fuel cost as the most difficulty in operating the Center. 3) Users were moderately satisfied with facility and the effect of its use, which took 3.5 point over 5 scale. 4) For the cost-benefit analysis on the Centers, both 5% of social discount rate and 15 years of use term were assumed. Subsequently, the Net Present Value was 3,134 million won, which certified the validity of the business.

  • This paper presents an economic analysis for the travel aids service system for visually handicapped persons through RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). This research estimates both cost and economic effect of the service. By using input-output analysis technique, three kinds of repercussion effects - domestic production, value added, and workers induced by the travel aids service - are also calculated. To evaluate the profitability of the service, we investigate the procedures through which the service has an effect on the interested parties and develop formulas describing the procedures. The benefit of the service have been generally obtained by measuring the willingness to pay (WTP). This paper, however, obtains the monetary value of benefit by estimating the parameters of the formulas, so that a close improvement of the service may be possible with the result of the economic analysis.

  • Fish stocking is important element of land-based aquaculture management. To maintain constant stocking rate considering biological and economic condition is a convenient strategy in intensive aquaculture. This study is aimed to analyze the effect of over-stocking(more than aquaculture capacity) for certain periods of time. This study make the mathematical decision making model that finds the value of decision variable to minimize cost that sums up the water pool usage cost and sorting cost under critical standing corp constraint. The proposed mathematical decision making model was applied to 12 sample combination of sorting cost and the number of fish on the Oliver flounder culture farms. If a immature fish can be sold for high price than farming cost, restricted over-stocking resulted in a improvement of economic performance. When extensive comparable biological and market data become available, analysis model can be widely applied to yield more accurate results.

  • In order to improve the quality assurance of the disaster mitigation projects, the economic effect of these projects in the hazardous areas was analysed. Eight project sites were selected for analyses based on the disaster data during the previous 10 years, and the investment effect was evaluated using a benefit cost ratio (B/C). The benefit was estimated using the historical disaster data and presumed to continue for 30 years, while the cost was assumed with the total project cost. Analysis results indicate the B/C ratio is larger than 1 in the difference range, depending on factors such as impact areas and discount rates. According to the analysis results, the average B/C of the eight projects is 4.1 with assuming the discount rate of 4% and the impact diameter of 5 km, which implies that a disaster management project in hazardous areas will give the positive investment effects.

Design/methodology/approach This study focuses on revealing the resistance factors of the mobile easy remittance service acceptance. The resistance factor is designed consisting both consumer characteristics and service characteristics in the Innovation Resistance Model. Furthermore, the effect of resistance factors on the innovation resistance and acceptance intentions were detected by moderating the switching cost. Findings According to the empirical analysis result, this study investigated the effect of resistance factors on innovation resistance and acceptance intention for the mobile easy remittance service. The results of this study as follows; (1) The consumer's inherent innovativeness did not significantly affect the innovation resistance and acceptance intention. (2) The attitude toward existing services and complexity significantly affected innovation resistance in direct manner, thus affecting the acceptance intention in indirect manner. (3) The perceived usefulness significantly affected both the innovation resistance and the acceptance intention in direct manner. (4) The perceived risk only effected the acceptance intention. (5) The switching cost had a moderating effect on the innovation resistance and acceptance intention.

  • The environmental problem come because the demage cost of environmental pollution is not properly reflected in market price. The government regulations for market is justified to solve the problem. The policy needs a close analysis of environmental, economical effect for the point of time, methods, rational decision making of the government regulations. Especially, we need to assume and analyze about social expenses by environmental pollution and policy execution. The cost-benefit analysis about environmental pollution is used to support decision making. The value of benefit about damage by environmental pollution or about improvement changes a monetary unit through the cost-benefit analysis. The working like this is said environmental material valuation or measuring valuation. This work is studied about looking for proper analysis model to apply our environmental materials.

  • In this study, we examined the effect of customer satisfaction and switching cost on continuous use intention to suggest how organizations can retain their customers when market growth slows down and competition becomes stronger. We carefully developed and modified survey instruments through a pre-test, and subsequently surveyed 432 dental care users in Seoul and Busan areas. As a result of regression analysis, higher procedural learning switching cost, relational switching cost, and customer satisfaction were manifested in the increased continuous use intention. In contrast, higher financial switching cost and customer satisfaction with insufficient effort for information acquisition led to decreased switching intention. In addition, procedural initial switching cost and residents in Seoul led to increased switching intention. Understanding continuous use intention and switching intention is important for healthcare institutions striving to maintain market position. The findings of this study suggest a paradigm shift from conventional transactional marketing to strategic relational marketing to be effective in the healthcare environment today.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has unprecedented impacts on different sectors around the globe. The effects observed in developing countries are even more severe. Some projects stopped while many have cost and time overrun issues. This paper conducted a case study on the COVID-19's effects on a hotel construction project in Nepal. The study reviewed the literature on COVID-19 and its impact on construction sectors and conducted a semi-structured interview with the project's personnel. The interview response was analysed and the contributing factors that impacted the project and its performance were identified. The paper found financial, operational, contractual, safety, and risk management issues in the hotel project. Overall, the project cost increased by 32% where the material cost increased by 35% and labor cost increased by 28%. This research discusses causes, measures, and provides a broad perspective of the problems, significant challenges, and opportunities associated with the effects of COVID-19 on the construction industry. The Owner as well as the Contractors incurred added costs because of COVID-19. The paper identified contributing factors and presented the challenges which could be used as opportunities to minimize unforeseen impacts of the pandemics in near future. The lesson learned from this case study was that the labor cost and materials cost could have been minimized if the Owner and the Contractor had established alternative resources such as using locally available labor, materials, and alternative suppliers.

  • Purpose: This analysis was conducted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of gemcitabine-cisplatin chemotherapy for non small-cell lung cancer patients in an outpatient setting compared with the traditional inpatient setting. Methods: A cost-effective analysis was conducted from a societal perspective. The effects of treatment, which was measured as an adverse event rate, were abstracted from a published literature search and empirical data from one university hospital. The costs included both direct and indirect costs. Direct costs included hospitalizations, outpatient visits, and lab tests. Pharmaceutical costs were excluded in analysis because they were same for both options. Indirect costs included productivity loss of patients as well as care-givers. In order to determine the robustness of the results, sensitivity analysis on treatment protocol was conducted. Results: Literature search showed no difference in adverse effect rates between inpatient treatment protocol and outpatient treatment protocol. Therefore, this analysis is a cost-minimization analysis. Cost-savings in the outpatient setting was 555,936 won for one treatment cycle. Our sensitivity analysis indicated that the outpatient chemotherapy still showed cost-savings, regardless of changes in treatment protocol. Conclusion: The outpatient gemcitabine-cisplatin chemotherapy for non small-cell lung cancer resulted in cost savings compared to inpatient chemotherapy. More importantly, outpatient chemotherapy could improve the utilization of health service resources in terms of available beds.
