Study on Out-of-pocket Money among Medical Expenses of an Oriental Medical University Hospital (한방의료의 본인부담금 연구)

  • This study was performed to investigate out-of-pocket money among medical expenses of an oriental medical university hospital by the use of internal data of an oriental hospital because medical insurance program data could not show us insuree's out-of-pocket money among medical expenses. The purpose of this study was to analyze out-of-pocket money among medical expenses of ambulatory and hospitalized patients. Under this purpose, We analyzed actual medical expenses data of 1389 out-patients and 858 in-patients of the oriental medical university hospital with 90 beds that could be approach to internal data from July 1, 1998 to March 31, 1999. The major findings are as follows : 1. In ambulatory patients, the cost share ratio of insuree & that of insurer was 90 : 10 respectly. 2. In hospitalized patients, the cost share ratio of insuree & that of insurer was 72 : 28 respectly.

  • This paper describes the application of discretized continuum-type optimality criteria (DCOC) for minimum-cost design of the reinforced concrete frame structures consisting of beams and columns. The cost of construction as objective function which includes the costs of concrete, reinforced steel and formwork is minimized. The design constraints include limits on the maximum deflection at a prescribed node, bending and shear strengths in beams, uniaxial bending strength of columns according to design codes(CEB/FIP, 1990). In the first stage, only beams with uniform cross-sectional parameters per span are considered. But the steel ratio is allowed to vary freely. The cross-sectional parameters and steel ratio in each column are assumed to be uniform for practical reasons. Optimality criteria is given based on the well known Kuhn-Tucker necessary conditions, followed by an iterative procedure for designs when the design variables are the depth and the steel ratio. The versatility of the DCOC technique has been demonstrated by considering numerical examples which have one-bay four-storey frame.

  • In this paper,new image vector quantization method for improvemtnt computation cost and compression ratio is proposed. A proposed method could saved the cornputatio cost of codebook eneration and encoding using partial codebook search, partial codevector elements, and interuplion criterion. And to improve cornpression ratio of codegook index lossless coding, codebook rearrangement, and variable length coding scheme are used.

  • This study is based on the use and performance of bamboo reinforcements in construction of low-cost structures. This study investigated the physical and mechanical properties of bamboo reinforcements. Bamboo reinforced concrete beam specimens were tested with different reinforcement ratios and observed the load capacity, deflection and failure patterns. It was observed that, flexural strength of bamboo reinforced column is sufficient higher than plain cement concrete and comparable to steel reinforced concrete beams. Bamboo reinforced concrete columns with different reinforcement ratio also tested and observed the ultimate compressive strength and failure pattern. It found, all columns failed in a similar pattern due to crushing of concrete. According to cost analysis, bamboo reinforced beams and columns with moderate reinforcement ratio showed the best strength-cost ratio among plain cement concrete and steel reinforced concrete.

The Analysis of the Profitability of Silk Reeling Industry in Korea (제사업의 수익성 결정요인 분석)

  • The purpose of this analysis is to collect the information on managerial aspects for improving the profitability of silk reeling industry in Korea. Various finacial statistics including balance sheet, profit and loss statement and manufacturing cost statement were analyzed by use of 21 randomly selected enterprise data prepared report by Korea sericultural association during 1972∼1974. The results are as follows. 1. The ratio of profit to sales is the most important factor affecting the profitability of silk reeling industry. 2. This ratio is controlled by the general management and selling cost. 3. The ratio of manufacturing expenses shows a high correlation to the production cost of raw silk.

Cost Analysis of Modified Asphalts using a Performance Based Fracture Criterion (공용성에 근거한 파괴기준을 이용한 개질 아스팔트 포장의 비용 효과 분석)

  • The effect of modified asphalts is evaluated by simple comparison of a single parameter (i.e., tensile strength, stiffness, etc.) between modified asphalt mixture and unmodified mixture. The use of a single parameter to evaluate the effect of modified asphalt must be questioned. Rather, a single unified framework that accounts for changes in key mixture properties is needed to effectively evaluate the modified asphalt mixtures. This study used a new performance-based fracture parameter as a single unified framework, the Energy Ratio (ER), for quantifying the effect of modified asphalts oil the fracture resistance of mixtures. The Energy Ratio was then used as a performance criterion for calculating the construction cost of two modified asphalt pavements (SBS and Crumb Rubber) and unmodified asphalt pavement. The results showed that the Energy Ratio of SBS modified asphalt was higher than those of crumb rubber and unmodified asphalt. Cost analyses indicated that the construction cost of the AC layer would be reduced by up to 24% by SBS modification. Based on the results, the Energy Ratio is capable of evaluating the effect of modified mixtures, and may form the basis of a promising fracture criterion for performance-based thickness design in asphalt pavements.

  • In planning phase of Public Multi-Housing Projects, it is required to develop the methodology and criteria for fair cost prediction with influencing power from planning phase to occupancy phase. Many studies still have focused on the prediction of cost by multiple regression. However, there is no logical explanation about the influence of nonmetric variables for the prediction of cost in planning phase. Accordingly, this research pursues a cost prediction model including nonmetric variables for use in planning phase. There are 3 steps of this research : 1) Finding the factors influencing construction cost and assigning variables for a multiple regression. 2) Conducting a dummy regression analysis with nonmetric variables and model validation by comparing actual cost data. 3) Developing the ratio of RC structure cost to wall structure cost by using cost predection model. The results could establish cost prediction process including the influence of nonmetric variables and the ratio of RC structure cost to wall structure cost.

  • A new cable-supported bridge model consisting of suspension parts, self-anchored cable-stayed parts and earth-anchored cable-stayed parts is presented. The new bridge model can be used for suspension bridges, cable-stayed bridges, cable-stayed suspension bridges, and partially earth-anchored cable-stayed bridges by varying parameters. Based on the assumption that each structural member is in either an axial compressive or tensile state, and the stress in each member is equal to the allowable stress of the material, the material quantity for each component is calculated. By introducing the unit cost of each type of material, the estimation formula for the cost of the new bridge model is developed. Numerical examples show that the results from the estimation formula agree well with that from the real projects. The span limit of cable supported bridge depends on the span-to-height ratio and the density-to-strength ratio of cables. Finally, a parametric study is illustrated aiming at the relations between three key geometrical parameters and the cost of the bridge model. The optimization of the new bridge model indicates that the self-anchored cable-stayed part is always the dominant part with the consideration of either the lowest total cost or the lowest unit cost. It is advisable to combine all three mentioned structural parts in super long span cable supported bridges to achieve the most excellent economic performance.

Cost Benefit Analysis on the Economic Effect of the Water Fluoridation Program in Some Area of Cheong-Ju City (청주시 일부지역의 수돗물불소화사업 비용-편익 분석)

  • This study was performed to evaluate economic effect of the water fluoridation program in Cheong-Ju City from 1982 to 2010. To study this economic effect, this study used cost-benefit analysis methodology from eight years old to fourteen years old in Cheong-Ju City. Major findings were as follows; First, total cost of fluoridation program in Cheong-Ju City was 1,384,164,734 korean won and total benefit was 15,057,426,621 Korean won from 1982 to 2010. Second, total cost which was converted by present value 2000 year was 1,687,412,718 won and total benefit which was converted by present value 2000 year was 14,582,548,519 Korean won. Cost-benefit ratio was 8.64. Net present value which happened from 1982 to 2000 was 7,990,710,155 Korean won and cost benefit ratio was 7.47. In conclusion, by the above result, economic impact of the water fluoridation program was very effective for children in some area of Cheong-Ju city.

A Study on Building of Underpass for Small Vehicles by Benefit and Cost Analysis (편익과 비용 분석을 통한 소형차전용지하차도 도입에 관한 연구)

  • PURPOSES : This study is to analysis for benefit and construction cost in underpass for small vehicles. METHODS : The study was performed using the traffic software VISSIM 5.20 for analysis on a variety of traffic conditions and analysed of benefits of changes through analysis of travel speed and travel time after modeling of existing underpass and small vehicle underpass. RESULTS : Results of this study, the benefits will be reduced by the introduction underpass for small vehicles were analyzed because heavy vehicles use the intersection above the underpass. However, it was required economic analysis considering both the benefits reduction and the construction costs reduction because it has the effect of reducing the construction cost. Showed that the difference in benefit changes depending on the v/c and heavy vehicles ratio and construction cost was difference by types of underpass. As a result of performing economic analysis with total benefits and construction cost, it was analyzed to be economical in underpass over a certain size. CONCLUSIONS : The result of this study are expected to be able to contribute to reviewing for feasibility due to the small vehicles underpass introduction and economic analysis. The study is case study to the underpass in Daegu. Therefore, the future requires the calculation of benefits reflect a wider range of traffic conditions and the economic analysis to construction cost calculation for various types of grad separation facilities.
