A Study on the Position Control Improvement of Flexible Robot Arm by Inverse Dynamics (역학을 이용한 탄성 로보트 아암의 선단 위치 제어 기어에 대한 연구)

  • This parer is a study on the inverse dynamics of a one-link flexible robot arm which is controlled by translational base motion. The system is composed of a flexible arm, a base for driving arm, a DC servomotor, and a computer. The arm base is moved so that the arm tip follows a desired function. The governing equations are based on the Bernoullie-Euler beam theory and solved by applying the Laplace transform method and then the numerical inversion method. Moter voltage is obtained by simulation for tip trajectory functions i. e. Bang-Bang, Cosine and Gauss Function. And, the tip motion is measured while simulation results are applying. Then the results are investigated to select most proper input and to compare their chateristics. Experimental results show the Cosine function is most proper with respect to low maximum voltage and steady state error.

  • Deformation phase can be obtained by using Least-Square fitting. In extraction of phase values, Least-Square Fitting is superior to usual method such as 2, 3, 4-Bucket Algorithm. That can extract almost noise-free phase and retain 2 $\pi$ discontinuities. But more fringes in phase map, 2 $\pi$ discontinuities are destroyed when that are filtered and reconstruction of deformation is not reliable. So, we adapted Least-Square fitting using an isotropic window in dense fringe. Using Sine/cosine filter give us perfect 2 $\pi$ discontinuities information. We showed the process and result of extraction of phase map and filtering in this paper.

  • Stress analysis of axi-symetric body with non-symetric loading and non-symetric given displacements is investigated in this paper using the finite element method. As the non-symetric load and non-symetric given displacements of axi-symetric body are generally periodic functions of angle .theta., the nodal forces and nodal displacements can be expanded in cosine and sine series, that is, Fourier series. Furthermore, using Euler's formula, the cosine and sine series can be converted into exponential series and it is prooved that the related calculus become more clear. Substituting the nodal displacements expanded in Fourier series into the strain components of cylindrical coordinates system, the element strains are expressed in series form and by the principal of virtual work, the element stiffness martix and element load vector are obtained for each order. It is also showed that if the non-symetric loads are even or odd functions of angle ${\theta}$ the stiffness matrix and load vector of the system are composed with only real numbers and relatively small capacity fo computer memory is enough for calculation.

  • A numerical investigation on nonlinear oscillations of gas in an axisymmetric resonant tube is presented. When a tube is oscillated at a resonant frequency, acoustic variables such as density, velocity, and pressure undergo very large perturbation, often described as nonlinear oscillation. In order to analyze these phenomena, axisymmetric 2-D nonlinear governing equations have been derived and solved numerically. Numerical simulations were accomplished for cylindrical, conical, and 1/2 cosine-shape tubes, which have same volume and length. For conical and 1/2 cosine-shape tubes, very large variation of pressures can be induced without shock formation except the cylindrical tube. In addition, the results well agree to those of 1-D simple model analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose two different VLSI architectures for the parallel computation of DCT (discrete cosine transform) algorithm. First, it is shown that the DCT algorithm can be implemented on the existing systolic architecture for the DFT(discrete fourier transform) by introducing some modification. Secondly, a new prime factor DCT algorithm based on the prime factor DFT algorithm is proposed. And it is shown that the proposed algorihtm can be implemented in parallel on the systolic architecture for the prime factor DFT. However, proposed algorithm is only applicable to the data length which can be decomposed into relatively prime and odd numbers. It is also found that the proposed systolic architecture requires less multipliers than the structures implementing FDCT(fast DCT) algorithms directly.

In order to analyze these phenomena, nonlinear governing equation has been drived and solved numerically. Numerical simulations were accomplished to study the effect of the tube shape on the maximum pressure we can obtain. The tubes of cylindrical, conical, and cosine-shape, which have same volume and length, were investigated. Results show that the resonant frequency and patterns of pressure waves strongly depend on not only the tube shape but also the amplitude of driving acceleration. The degree of non-linearity of wave patterns was also measured by the newly defined nonlinear energy ratio of the pressure signals. It was found that the 1/2 cosine-shape tube is more suitable to induce high compression ratio than other shapes.

  • This paper presents a Inertial Measuring Unit(IMU) for motion measurement of an AUV. The IMU is composed of three parts: inertial sensors with three servo accelerometers and three rate gyros, an analog/digital interface board, and a signal processing board with TMS320C31 DSP processor. The IMU is a class of strap-down inwetial navigation system does not applicable directly to the navigation system in consequence of the AUV and integrated sensors for an integrated navigation system of the AUV. Fast calculstion of direction cosine matrix for the coordinate transformation body to reference is obtained through the DSP processor. A switching algotrithm is used to lessen the low frequency drift effect of the gyros in the vertical plane with use of low pass filtering of the signal of the accelerometers.

  • In this paper, we propose a new post-processing technique that removes blocking and ringing artifacts in Block discrete cosine transformation (BDCT)-coded images using bilateral filtering. The selection of filter parameters is a key issue in the application of a bilateral filter because it significantly affects the result. An efficient method of selecting the bilateral filter parameters is presented. The experimental results show that the proposed approach alleviates the artifacts efficiently in terms of PSNR, MSDS, and SSIM.

A Comparison Study of Real-Time Solution to All- Attitude Angles of an Aircraft

  • In this paper, the quaternion, the dual Euler, and the direction cosine methods are numerically compared using a non-aerodynamic 6 degree-of-freedom rigid model at all-attitude angles of an aircraft. The dual Euler method turns out to be superior to the others in the applications because it shows better numerical accuracy, stability, and robustness in integration step sizes. The dual Euler method is affordably less efficient than the quaternion method in terms of computational cost. Numerical accuracy and stability, which allow larger integration step sizes, are more critical in modern real-time applications than computational efficiency because of today's increased computational power. If the quaternion method is required because of constraints in computation time, then a suppression mechanism should be provided for algebraic constraint errors which will eventually add computational burden.

Age Invariant Face Recognition Based on DCT Feature Extraction and Kernel Fisher Analysis

  • The aim of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of combining three popular tools used in pattern recognition, which are the Active Appearance Model (AAM), the two-dimensional discrete cosine transform (2D-DCT), and Kernel Fisher Analysis (KFA), for face recognition across age variations. For this purpose, we first used AAM to generate an AAM-based face representation; then, we applied 2D-DCT to get the descriptor of the image; and finally, we used a multiclass KFA for dimension reduction. Classification was made through a K-nearest neighbor classifier, based on Euclidean distance. Our experimental results on face images, which were obtained from the publicly available FG-NET face database, showed that the proposed descriptor worked satisfactorily for both face identification and verification across age progression.
