  • Purpose: Recently, Jiang defines the tradeoff B life to minimize a sum of life lost by preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) contribution parts and sets up an optimal replacement age of age replacement policy as this tradeoff life. In this paper, Jiang's model only considering the known lifetime distribution is extended by assigning different weights to two parts of PM and CM in order to reflect the practical maintenance situations in application. Methods: The new age replacement model is formulated and the meaning of a weight factor is expressed with the implied cost of failure under asymptotic expected cost model and also discussed with one-cycle expected cost criterion. Results: The proposed model is applied to Weibull and lognormal lifetime distributions and optimum PM replacement ages are derived with corresponding implied cost of failure. Conclusion: The new age replacement policy to escape the estimation of cost of failure in classical asymptotic expected cost criterion based on the renewal process is provided.

  • The degeneration of tool in material removal processing machinery can be characterized by wear, deflection, chattering and any failure in tool or in the material In be processed. In the previous studies, first three of them are analyzed as a preventive maintenance strategy in quality control area. The last of them, any failure, is analyzed as a preventive maintenance strategy in reliability area. In this research, we propose a simple integrated mathematical model which minimizes the cost of machinery failures and producing defects. We determine the optimal wear limit of tool by considering the percent defects. cost, the preventive maintenance cost, and the corrective maintenance cost.

  • In a large complex system, maintenance priorities for the failed components are important to maintain the sys-tern reliability at required level. Commonly used methods of determining maintenance priorities are based onranking the failed components by using reliability importance measures such as Birnbaum reliability importance, risk achievement worth and F-V importance, etc. In the preceding works, maintenance priorities for the failedcomponents are determined by using such existing measures, In this study, a new method of determining main-tenance priorities, which utilizes the joint reliability importance is proposed. By investigating the sign of thejoint reliability importance, maintenance priorities obtained by the existing methods are adjusted to yield new re-vised priorities. The revised maintenance priorities are shown to be more effective than the existing ones fromthe standpoint of the speed of system recovery, Effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by numericalexamples.

  • According to flying hours, aircraft engines require regular overhaul for preventive maintenance. Because of hostile defense environment of Republic of Korea, the aircraft of republic of Korea Air Force(ROKAF) have been operated at the maximum level of availability and have similar overhaul schedule in several months. The concentration of overhaul schedule in a short period demands additional spare engines far exceeding the spare engines for corrective maintenance. If ROKAF decides to purchase extra engines for the preventive maintenance, the extra engines will be used only for the preventive maintenance and will be excess inventory for the most of aircraft life ccle. Also, the procurement of extra engines is significant investment for ROKAF. To help ROKAF schedule the preventive maintenance without significant spending, this study develops a dynamic programming model that is solvable using an integer programming algorithm. The model provides the number of engines that should be overhauled for a month for multiple periods under given constraints. ROKAF actually used this model to solve a T-59 engine overhaul problem and saved about three billion won at one time. ROKAF plans to use this model continuously for T-59 and other weapon systems. Thus, saving for long term will be significant to ROKAF. Finally, with minor modification, this model can be applied to deciding the minimum number of spare engines for preventive maintenance.

  • This paper presents a comprehensive analytical approach for determining key maneuver parameters associated with the acquisition and maintenance of the ground track for a low-earth orbit. A livearized model relating changes in the drift rate of the ground track directly to changes in the orbital semi-major axis is also developed. The effect of terrestrial atmospheric drag on the semi-major axis is also explored, being quantified through an analytical expression for the decay rate as a function of density. The non-singular Lagrange planetary equations, further simplified for nearly circular orbits, provide the desired relationships between the corrective in-plane impulsive velocity increments and the corresponding effects on the orbit elements. The resulting solution strategy offers excellent insight into the dynamics affecting the timing, magnitude, and frequency of these maneuvers. Simulations are executed for the ground track acquisition and maintenance maneuver as a pre-flight planning and analysis.

  • Nuclear power plants(NPPs) are consisted of power production functions and safety functions preventing leakage of radiation. Operators working in NPPs shall maintain these functions during an operation period through various activities such as improvement & modification, corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance and surveillance test. According to the performance of these work activities, there are configuration changes in NPPs systems. Its changes cause the increase of safety risks(CDF) and plant trip risks. Recently, the importance of risk management is increasing gradually in the operation process of NPPs. Therefore, this paper presents the work management methods using the various risk monitoring systems during power operation and overhaul period. Also this paper suggests the optimum application ways of risk systems for work management.

  • The study of maintenance planning is important in military weapon systems because it can improve their availability and reduce the operational and maintenance cost during the total life cycle. In maintenance planning, it is important to determine the preventive maintenance task and its optimal interval. This paper focuses on the hard time task, which is one of the preventive maintenance tasks. A hard time task removes an item or restorative action before some specified maximum age limit to prevent functional failure. The Monte-Carlo simulation model was proposed to help understand the cost effectiveness of a hard time task. In the simulation, various shape parameters of the Weibull distribution and cost ratio of corrective maintenance to preventive maintenance were assumed. Using a Monte-Carlo simulation, a quantified cost saving effect and optimal preventive maintenance interval were suggested.

  • Rolling stock maintenance, which focuses on preventive maintenance, is typically implemented considering the potential harm that may be inflicted to passengers in the event of failure. The cost of preventive maintenance throughout the life cycle of a rolling stock is 60%-75% of the initial purchase cost. Therefore, ensuring stability and reducing maintenance costs are essential in terms of economy. In particular, private railroad operators must reduce government support budget by effectively utilizing railroad resources and reducing maintenance costs. Accordingly, this study analyzes the reliability characteristics of components using field data. Moreover, it resolves the problem of determining an economical replacement interval considering the timing of scrapping railroad vehicles. The procedure for determining the optimal replacement interval involves five steps. According to the decision model, the optimal replacement interval for the onboard signal device components of the "A" line train is calculated using field data, such as failure data, preventive maintenance cost, and failure maintenance cost. The field data analysis indicates that the mileage meter is 9 years, which is less than the designed durability of 15 years. Furthermore, a life cycle in which the phase signal has few failures is found to be the same as the actual durability of 15 years.

  • In this study statistical analysis was performed for NDI(Non-Destructive Inspection) results of F100 engine front seal support assembly. NDI results can be statistically considered as Quantal Response Data. It is found that the suitable probability distribution to the failure data is normal distribution through MLE(Maximum Likelihood Estimation) of the Quantal Response Data. Moreover, Cumulative Distribution Function, failure rate function and B-Life are calculated on the supposed distribution.
