  • In this paper presents an accurate AFM used that is free from the Z-directional distortion of a servo actuator is described. Two mathematical correction methods by the in-situ self-calibrationare employed in this AFM. One is the method by the integration, and the other is the method by inverse function of the calibration curve. The in situ self-calibration method by the integration, the derivative of the calibration curve function of the PZT actuator is calculated from the profile measurement data sets which are obtained by repeating measurements after a small Z-directional shift. Input displacement at each sampling point is approximately estimated first by using a straight calibration line. The derivative is integrated with reference to the approximate input to obtain the approximate calibration curve. Then the approximation of the input value of each sampling point is improved using the obtained calibration curve. Next the integral of the derivative is improved using the newly estimated input values. As a result of repeating these improving process, the calibration curve converges to the correct one, and the distortion of the AFM image can be corrected. In the in situ self-calibration through evaluating the inverse function of the calibration curve, the profile measurement data sets were used during the data processing technique. Principles and experimental results of the two methods are presented.

  • In this paper, we proposed the GPS position data correction method for autonomous land navigation using vanishing point property and a monocular vision system. Simulations are carried out over driving distances of approximately 60 km on the basis of realistic road data. In straight road, the proposed method reduces GPS position error to minimum more than 63% and positioning errors within less than 0.5m are observed. However, the average accuracy of the method is not presented. because it is difficult to estimate it in curve road or other road environments.

  • This paper presents an improved method to determine the internal parameters for improving accuracy of a lithium ion battery equivalent circuit model. Conventional methods for the parameter estimation directly using the curve fitting results generate the phenomenon to be incorrect due to the influence of the internal capacitive impedance. To solve this phenomenon, simple correction procedure with transient state analysis is proposed and added to the parameter estimation method. Furthermore, conventional dynamic equation for correction is enhanced with advanced RC impedance dynamic equation so that the proposed modeling results describe the battery dynamic characteristics more exactly. The improved accuracy of the battery model by the proposed modeling method is verified by single cell experiments compared to the other type of models.

  • In this paper, we proposed non-linear gamma curve algorithm for gamma correction. The previous non-linear gamma curve algorithm is generated by the least square polynomial using the Gauss-Jordan inverse matrix. However, the previous algorithm has some weak points. When calculating coefficients using inverse matrix of higher degree, occurred truncation errors. Also, only if input sample points are existed regular interval on 10-bit scale, the least square polynomial is accurately works. To compensate weak-points, we calculated accurate coefficients of polynomial using eigenvalue and orthogonal value of mat11x from singular value decomposition (SVD) and QR decomposition of vandemond matrix. Also, we used input data part segmentation, then we performed polynomial curve fitting and merged curve fitting results. When compared the previous method and proposed method using the mean square error (MSE) and the standard deviation (STD), the proposed segmented polynomial curve fitting is highly accuracy that MSE under the least significant bit (LSB) error range is approximately $10^{-9}$ and STD is about $10^{-5}$.

  • An approximation of singular source terms in elliptic problems is developed and analyzed. Under certain assumptions on the curve where the singular source is defined, the second order convergence in the maximum norm can be proved. Numerical results present its better performance compared to previously developed regularization techniques.

  • The traditional orthognathic surgery treatment consists of three steps: preoperative orthodontic treatment, orthognathic surgery, and postoperative orthodontic treatment, and the average treatment period is usually two years. Also, patients with Class III malocclusion should spend more time getting their facial features worse during the decompensation process. However, most of the patients who want orthognathic surgery visit the chief complaints of appearance improvement, and resolve this address as soon as possible. The concept of $^{\circ}{\AE}$Surgery - First 'does not cause a facial imbalance caused by decompensation for the pre - operative correction period, and the patient can obtain an improved facial profile immediately after the operation. In addition, the correction period is shortened by Regional Acceleratory Phenomenon (RAP) after surgery. However, it is not applicable to all patients. Patients with severe crowding, severe curve of spee or reverse curve of spee, severe transverse discrepancy of the maxilla and mandibular arch, and severe incisal angles are less likely to apply the technique. Although it is not yet possible to apply this technique to all patients, it has many advantages over the conventional method. Especially, the patients' preference is increasing due to the rapid appearance improvement and the shortening of the total treatment period.

  • Purpose: This research was designed to figure out if there are changes based on types of vergence fixation disparity curve after optical correction and vision training to for people with steep slope of forced vergence fixation disparity curve and symptoms. Methods: For 30 subjects out of 91 subjects, who have steep slopes of fixation disparity curve examined with Wesson Fixation Disparity Card and symptoms about steep slope of fixation disparity curve, proper vision training was offered for 5 weeks. Results: After Vision training for 30 people with the symptoms of type I, II, III, IV for 5 weeks, slope of fixation disparity curve was significantly changed (p=0.013), and the results of binocular vision test and subjective symptoms were also significantly improved. Conclusions: Vision training can not only affect the change of fixation disparity curve, but also relieve the symptoms. Fixation disparity curve has lots of visual function information of the subject and can be suggested as a guideline for prescribing.

  • Purpose : To develop a novel approach to calculate the sensitivity profiles of the phased array coil for use in non-uniform intensity correction. Materials and Methods : The proposed intensity correction method estimates the sensitivity profile of the coil to extract intensity variations that represent the scanned image. The sensitivity profile is estimated by fitting a non-linear curve to various angles of projections through the imaged object in order to eliminate the high-frequency image content. Filtered back projection is then used to compute the estimates of the sensitivity profile of each coil. The method was applied both to phantom and brain images from 8-channel phased-array coil and 4-channel phased-array coil, respectively. Results : Intensity-corrected images from the proposed method have more uniform intensity than those from the commonly used 'sum-of-squares' approach. By using the proposed correction method, the intensity variation was reduced to $6.1\%$ from $13.1\%$, acquired from the 'sum-of-squares'. Conclusion : The proposed method is more effective at correcting the intensity non-uniformity of the phased-array surface-coil images than the conventional 'sum-of-squares' method.

  • We have analyzed collected photoelectric light curves for light variations of SW Lac. The method of Fourier analysis was adopted to quantify the light variation from season to season. We found the linear relation between the Fourier coefficient, B1 and the magnitude difference between two maxima. The total light of the system has been decreased as much as 0m.04 during approxiamately 20 years time interval. Photoelectric parameters including spot parameters for all light curves were obtained by the method of the Wilson and Devinney differential correction in order to secure the variations of parameters from season to season. SW Lac, not like RS CVn type stars, required to adjust all parameters as well as spot parameters for a reasonable fit to the observations of each epoch. A surface temperature of cooler star is one of the most sensitive parameters to affect a shape of light curve of SW Lac. We conclude that the shape of light curve of SW Lac varies even during one season as well as season to season. The light curve is mainly caused by inhomogeneous surface temperature due to strong chromospheric activity of the system.
