Stability of a PWR core against xenon-induced axial power oscillation is studied using one-dimensional xenon trausient analysis code, DD1D, that has been developed and verified at KAERI. Analyzed by DD1D utilizing the Kori Unit 1 design and operating data is the sensitivity of axial stability in a PWR core to the changes in core physical parameters including core power level, moderator temperature coefficient, core inlet temperature, doppler power coefficient and core average turnup. Through the sensitivity study the Kori Unit 1 core is found to be stable against axial xenon oscillation at the beginning of cycle 1. But, it becomes less stable as turnup progresses, and unstable at the end of the cycle. Such a decrease in stability is mainly due to combined effect of changes in axial power distribution, moderator temperature coefficient and doppler power coefficient as core turnup progresses. It is concluded from the stability analysis of the Kori Unit 1 core that design of a large PWR with high power density and increased dimension can not avoid xenon-induced axial power instabilities to some extents, especially at the end of cycle.

Upcoming ground-breaking applications for always-on tiny interconnected devices steadily demand two-fold features of processor cores: aggressively low power consumption and enhanced performance. We propose implementation of a novel superscalar low-power processor core with a low supply voltage. The core implements intra-core low-power microarchitecture with minimal performance degradation in instruction fetch, branch prediction, scheduling, and execution units. The inter-core lockstep not only detects malfunctions during low-voltage operation but also carries out software-based recovery. The chip incorporates a pair of cores, high-speed memory, and peripheral interfaces to be implemented with a 65nm node. The processor core consumes only 24mW at 350MHz and 0.68V, resulting in power efficiency of $80{\mu}W/MHz$. The operating frequency of the core reaches 850MHz at 1.2V.
The coolant temperature feedback coefficient is an important parameter of reactor core power control system. To study the coolant temperature feedback coefficient influence on the core power control system of small PWR, the core power control system is built with the nonlinear model and fuzzy control theory. Then, the uncertainty quantification method of reactor core parameters is established based on the Latin hypercube sampling method and the Bootstrap method. Finally, under the conditions of reactivity step perturbation and coolant inlet temperature step perturbation, uncertainty analysis for two cases is carried out. The result shows that with fuzzy controller and fuzzy PID controller, the uncertainty of the coolant temperature feedback coefficient affects the core power control system, and the maximum uncertainties of core relative power, coolant temperature deviation, fuel temperature deviation and total reactivity are acceptable.
The characteristics of a photonic crystal fiber sensor with reuleaux triangle are studied by using the finite element method. The wavelength sensitivity of the designed optical fiber sensor is related to the arc radius of the reuleaux triangle. Whether the core area is solid or liquid as well as the refractive index of the liquid core contributes to wavelength sensitivity. The simulation results show that larger arc radius leads to higher sensitivity. The sensitivity can be improved by introducing a liquid core, and higher wavelength sensitivity can be achieved with a lower refractive index liquid core. In addition, the specific channel plated with gold film is polished and then analyte is deposited on the film surface, in which case the position of the resonance peak is the same as that of the complete photonic crystal fiber with three analyte channels being filled with analyte. This means that filling process becomes convenient with equivalent performance of designed sensor. The maximum wavelength sensitivity of the sensor is 10200 nm/RIU and the resolution is $9.8{\times}10^{-6}RIU$.
The influence of hold-down spring (HDS) on the vibration characteristics of core barrel is studied in this paper. First, the vibration characteristics experiment of core barrel was carried out with four type of different hold-down spring. These hold-down springs represent the same hold-down force under different spring stiffness and different hold-down force under the same spring stiffness. And then a new finite element method for researching the influence of hold-down spring on the vibration characteristics of core barrel was presented. This new method could consider the influence of the hold-down force and the spring stiffness at the same time. The results suggest that, the hold-down force and friction have greater influence on the vibration characteristics of core barrel than the spring stiffness, and the influence is nonlinear. The influence of the boundary condition on beam mode is greater than that on shell mode for core barrel.
ABB-CE's regionalization methodology for the core inlet flow distribution map is reviewed. This methodology merges the test data of fuel assembly locations which are either in symmetry or strongly correlated with others. It increases the number of available test data for each regional flow factor It makes up effectively for the deficiency due to limited number of test data. It also contributes to making the core inlet flow distribution smoother not only locally but also over the entire core, and to relieving the impacts of test errors that may happen due to some do- calibrated local pressure measurement taps. As a result, the core inlet How distribution data becomes more statistically useful and thus the conservatism involved in handling the core inlet flow factors for the thermal margin analysis is expected to be reduced. Meanwhile, the regionalized map may lose the unique local characteristics in core inlet flow distribution too much. By an alternative approach introduced in the present work, it is shown that such a disadvantage can be mitigated somewhat if the engineering judgement is made more
The approach for evaluating the critical heat flux (CHF) margin using the departure from nucleate boiling ratio (DNBR) concept has been widely applied to PWR core design, while DNBR in this approach does not indicate appropriately the CHF margin in terms of the attainable power margin-to-CHF against a reactor core condition. The CHF power margin must be calculated by increasing power until the minimum DNBR reaches a DNBR limit. The Critical Power Ratio (CPR), defined as the ratio of the predicted CHF power to the operating power, is considered more reasonable for indicating the CHF margin and can be calculated by a CPR orrelation based on the heat balance of a test bundle. This approach yields directly the CHF power margin, but the calculated CPR must be corrected to compensate for many local effects of the actual core, which are not considered in the CHF test and analysis. In this paper, correction of the calculated CPR is made so that it may become equal to the DNB overpower margin. Exemplary calculations showed that the correction tends to be increased as power distribution is more distorted, but are not unduly large.
In PWR three-dimensional transient coupling calculation software CORCA-K, the nodal Green's function method and diagonal implicit Runge Kutta method are used to solve the spatiotemporal neutron dynamic diffusion equation, and the single-phase closed channel model and one-dimensional cylindrical heat conduction transient model are used to calculate the coolant temperature and fuel temperature. The LMW, NEACRP and PWR MOX/UO2 benchmarks and FangJiaShan (FJS) nuclear power plant (NPP) transient control rod move cases are used to verify the CORCA-K. The effects of burnup, fuel effective temperature and ejection rate on the control rod ejection process of PWR are analyzed. The conclusions are as follows: (1) core relative power and fuel Doppler temperature are in good agreement with the results of benchmark and ADPRES, and the deviation between with the reference results is within 3.0% in LMW and NEACRP benchmarks; 2) the variation trend of FJS NPP core transient parameters is consistent with the results of SMART and ADPRES. And the core relative power is in better agreement with the SMART when weighting coefficient is 0.7. Compared with SMART, the maximum deviation is -5.08% in the rod ejection condition and while -5.09% in the control rod complex movement condition.

This paper realize power control embedded system with one master of Core-A 32-bit RISC processor and several slaves controling power with synchronized digital signals. Core-A platform is consisted of Core-A processor, AMBA bus, SSRAM, AC97, DMA, UART, GPIO etc. Slave is made by both digital part and analog part. The former generates various power control patterns synchronized with master signal. The latter converts 220V power proportional to 4 bit digital signals. design of Embedded system is executed in Flowrian II, in which software is cross-compiled and hardware is verified by simulation. Embedded system is implemented in FPGA board and CPLD chips as well as PCB board for analog power control.
This paper reports the control method for the core power of the China initiative Accelerator Driven System (CiADS) facility. In the CiADS facility, an intense external neutron source provided by a proton accelerator coupled to a spallation target is used to drive a sub-critical reactor. Without any control rod inside the sub-critical reactor, the core power is controlled by adjusting the proton beam intensity. In order to continuously change the beam intensity, an adjustable aperture is considered to be used at the Low Energy Beam Transport (LEBT) line of the accelerator. The aperture size is adjusted based on the Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controllers, by comparing either the setting beam intensity or the setting core power with the measured value. To evaluate the proposed control method, a CiADS core model is built based on the point reactor kinetics model with six delayed neutron groups. The simulations based on the CiADS core model have indicated that the core power can be controlled stably by adjusting the aperture size. The response time in the adjustment of the core power depends mainly on the adjustment time of the beam intensity.
