  • The fuel cell based auxiliary power unit (APU) is promising for power source of armed vehicles due to its silence and high efficiency. Especially, the on board hydrogen generation and fed to fuel cell system was core technology of this power system. In this study, we analyzed the performance of the Auto thermal reactor (ATR) that produce the hydrogen from the fuel, integrated High temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cell (HT-PEFC) by Aspen plus software. The fuel was designed as a n-dodecane for analysis of military fuel (JP-8).

  • FRP has been used very much as high strength core materials for insulators because of its high strength and good insulation properties. In this study cantilever, tension and torsion stress were simulation along to the unidirection glass fiber. In addition, FRP was made by pultrusion method. This paper proposed the procedure of the finite element model updating and pretest using the commercial finite element code MSC. Nastran. To enhance the efficiency of experimental modal analysis, we proposed the process which is the selection of the locations and the number of measurement points for pre-test.

  • Polymer optical fibers (POFs) are being considered as important high-speed communication media in the area of local area networks, datalinks and optical sensors. Large core diameter (500~1000 $\mu$m) and large numerical aperture (0.2~0.9) in a POF allow easy processing and connectorization, low cost high efficiency of beam coupling from LDs or LEDs, and complete immunity to EMI/EMR. There are many reports about 2.5 Gbps transmission the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) graded index (GI) POF over a distance of 100 m. (omitted)

  • For last five years, we are developing the novel local drug delivery devices using biodegradable polymers, especially polylactide (PLA) and poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) due to its relatively good biocompatibility, easily controlled biodegradability, good processability and only FDA approved synthetic degradable polymers. The relationship between various kinds of drug [water soluble small molecule drugs: gentamicin sulfate (GS), fentanyl citrate (FC), BCNU, azidothymidine (AZT), pamidronate (ADP), $1,25(OH)_2$ vitamin $D_3$, water insoluble small molecule drugs: fentanyl, ipriflavone (IP) and nifedipine, and water soluble large peptide molecule drug: nerve growth factor (NGF), and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV)], different types of geometrical devices [microspheres (MSs), microcapsule, nanoparticle, wafers, pellet, beads, multiple-layered beads, implants, fiber, scaffolds, and films], and pharmacological activity are proposed and discussed for the application of pharmaceutics and tissue engineering. Also, local drug delivery devices proposed in this work are introduced in view of preparation method, drug release behavior, biocompatibility, pharmacological effect, and animal studies. In conclusion, we can control the drug release profiles varying with the preparation, formulation and geometrical parameters. Moreover, any types of drug were successfully applicable to achieve linear sustained release from short period ($1{\sim}3$ days) to long period (over 2 months). It is very important to design a suitable formulation for the wanting period of bioactive molecules loaded in biodegradable polymers for the local delivery of drug. The drug release is affected by many factors such as hydrophilicity of drug, electric charge of drug, drug loading amount, polymer molecular weight, the monomer composition, the size of implants, the applied fabrication techniques, and so on. It is well known that the commercialization of new drug needs a lot of cost of money (average: over 10 million US dollar per one drug) and time (average: above 9 years) whereas the development of DDS and high effective generic drug might be need relatively low investment with a short time period. Also, one core technology of DDS can be applicable to many drugs for the market needs. From these reasons, the DDS research on potent generic drugs might be suitable for less risk and high return.

  • 본 연구에서는 poly(dimethylsiloxane)(PDMS) 기반의 미세유체 시스템을 이용하여 이중 에멀젼을 형성하는 방법을 구현하였다. 반응기 친수성 연속상과 표면 젖음성을 향상시키기 위해 우선 PDMS 표면과 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate(TPM)간의 졸-젤 반응을 통해 표면에 메타크릴레이트를 유도하였고, 선택적인 영역에 친수성 단량체인 아크릴산과 메타크릴레이트간의 공유결합을 유도하였다. 이를 확인하기 위해 아크릴산과 정전기적 인력 결합을 하는 염료를 통하여 선택적 표면 개질의 성공을 확인하였다. 사용된 유체로는 "spreading coefficient"를 도입하여 시스템 내에서 이중 에멀젼을 형성하는 조건을 예측하여 물과 0.5% w/w sodium dodecyl sulfate 혼합물, 헥사데칸 혼합물(hexadecane; 1% w/w Span80)을 선정하였다. 이를 통하여, 코어 및 쉘의 사이즈가 48.5 ${\mu}m$(CV:1.6%), 65.1 ${\mu}m$(CV:1.6%)인 단분산성 이중 에멀젼을 성공적으로 생성하였고, 유체의 유량 제어를 통하여 함입되는 코어의 개수 조절이 가능함을 보여주었다.

기능성 오일을 함유하는 폴리우레탄 마이크로캡슐의 제조 및 분석 (Preparation and Characterization of Polyurethane Microcapsules Containing Functional Oil)

  • 기능성 오일 (citronella oil)을 함유하는 폴리우레탄 마이크로 캡슐을 계면중합을 이용하여 tolulene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI)와 ethylene glycol (EG)로부터 제조하였으며 제조된 마이크로캡슐을 적외선분광분석, 자외선분광분석, 입도분석기, 열중량측정기, 주사전자현미경을 이용하여 분석하였다. 마이크로캡슐의 제조시 이용된 분산제의 농도 및 교반속도와 같은 변수가 제조된 마이크로캡슐의 입자크기 및 분포에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 또한, 적외선분광분석을 통해 citronella 오일이 성공적으로 캡슐화되었음을 알 수 있었고 열중량측정으로 마이크로캡슐은 약 $220^{\circ}C$ 정도까지 안정함을 알 수 있었다. 마이크로캡슐을 메탄올 용매에 넣어 캡슐 속의 citronella 오일의 방출거동을 자외선분광분석을 통해 조사하였다. Citronella 오일의 방출양은 캡슐 제조 시 적용된 교반속도 및 분산제의 농도를 증가시킴에 따라 증가하였다. Citronella 오일을 함유하는 마이크로캡슐은 우수한 방충효과를 나타내었다.

샌드위치형 GFRP 아치의 구조적 거동 및 현장 적용성 (Structural Behavior of Sandwich Type GFRP Arch and Field Applicability)

  • This study investigated the structural behavior and field applicability of sandwich type GFRP arches with polymer mortar in core. As a result, in case of crack loading and failure loading, total strains at crown were the highest; the fracture strain at crown was 0.01690, which is 4.2 times greater than the fracture strain (0.004) of cement concrete. The 3 % deflection load was 17.42 kN, the flexural strength was $163.98{\times}10^{-3}GPa$, and the flexural elastic modulus was 11.884 GPa. From load-deflection relationship up to 3.5 % deflection, 3D analysis results and experimental values were observed to be almost identical. It was considered reasonable to set a deflection rate limit to be 3 % for structural safety purpose. The standard external flexural strength of semicircular arch used in this study was approximately 2.64 times higher than that of hume pipe (2 type standard) and tripled composite pipe. The external pressure strength at fracture was approximately 1.57 times higher than that of hume pipe. It was confirmed that the implementing semicircular arch had mechanically more advantage than the circular pipe. Optimum member thickness was 8~53 mm according to arch radius of 450~1,800 mm and cover depth of 2~10 m. It was found that the larger strength could be obtained even if the thickness of member was smaller than that of concrete structure. In field application study, figures and equations were derived for obtaining applicable cover depth and optimum member thickness according to loading conditions. These would be useful data for design and manufacture of sandwich type semicircular arch.

  • 금속/고분자 샌드위치 복합재는 경량성과 제진, 방음 등의 다기능성의 측면에서 기존의 스틸 강판을 대체할 후보 중 하나로서 연구되고 있다. 금속/고분자 복합재의 활용하기 위해서는 접착력을 바탕으로 한 박리 거동 예측이 매우 중요한 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 응집요소를 사용하여 유한요소 해석을 통해 접착제를 사용한 고분자 테이프의 박리거동 해석을 수행하였다. 응집요소의 특성은 박리시험과 역학 관계로부터 도출한 파괴인성을 통해 정의하였고 이를 해석에 적용하였다. 스틸 강판에서 고분자 테이프를 박리하는 시험을 모사하였고, 해석결과와 시험결과를 비교하여 박리 거동 모사가 가능함을 확인하였다.

Sequential Conjugation of 6-Aminohexanoic Acids and L-Arginines to Poly(amidoamine) Dendrimer to Modify Hydrophobicity and Flexibility of the Polymeric Gene Carrier

  • We synthesized a novel cationic dendrimer consisting of a poly(amidoamine) dendrimer (PAMAM, generation 4) backbone with both L-arginine (Arg) at the termini and 6-aminohexanoic acid (Ahx) between the original core polymer and the peripheral Arg units. The sequential chemical modification of PAMAM G4 with Ahx and Arg resulted in higher transfection efficiency with much less cytotoxicity. PAMAM G4-Ahx-Arg formed stable polyplexes at weight ratios of 8:1 or higher (polymer: plasmid DNA), and the mean polyplex diameter was $180{\pm}20nm$. PAMAM G4-Ahx-Arg showed much higher transfection ability than PAMAM G4 or PAMAM G4-Ahx. Furthermore, PAMAM G4-Ahx-Arg was much less cytotoxic than PEI25KD and PAMAM G4-Arg. In addition to Arg grafting of the PAMAM dendrimer, which endows a higher transfection capability, the addition of Ahx spacer increased dendrimer hydrophobicity, introduced flexibility into the conjugated amino acids, and reduced cytotoxicity. Overall, it appears that the concomitant modification of PAMAM with Ahx and Arg could lead to new PAMAM conjugates with better performances.

Carrier Transport of Quantum Dot LED with Low-Work Function PEIE Polymer

  • Recently, colloidal core/shell type quantum dots lighting-emitting diodes (QDLEDs) have been extensively studied and developed for the future of optoelectronic applications. In the work, we fabricate an inverted CdSe/ZnS quantum dot (QD) based light-emitting diodes (QDLED)[1]. In order to reduce work function of indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode for inverted structure, a very thin (<10 nm) polyethylenimine ethoxylated (PEIE) is used as surface modifier[2] instead of conventional metal oxide electron injection layer. The PEIE layer substantially reduces the work function of ITO electrodes which is estimated to be 3.08 eV by ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS). From transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study, CdSe/ZnS QDs are uniformly distributed and formed by a monolayer on PEIE layer. In this inverted QD LED, two kinds of hybrid organic materials, [poly (9,9-di-n-octyl-fluorene-alt-benzothiadiazolo)(F8BT) + poly(N,N'-bis (4-butylphenyl)-N,N'-bis(phenyl)benzidine (poly-TPD)] and [4,4'-N,N'-dicarbazole-biphenyl (CBP) + poly-TPD], were adopted as hole transport layer having high highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level for improving hole transport ability. At a low-operating voltage of 8 V, the device emits orange and red spectral radiation with high brightness up to 2450 and 1420 cd/m2, and luminance efficacy of 1.4 cd/A and 0.89 cd/A, respectively, at 7 V applied bias. Also, the carrier transport mechanisms for the QD LEDs are described by using several models to fit the experimental I-V data.
