  • From the cost-effective product point of view, it is very important to design a new current controller with the highest utilization factor of current capacity of power devices. This paper deals with a state-deadbeat current controller for PWM converters, which shows the fastest current control response without overshoot irrespective of the saturation of control voltage. No-overshoot control response means that the current capacity could be fully utilized in the control sense. Simulational results done by Matlab's Simulink show good current control characteristics.

  • This paper focuses on the properties analysis of 9mm bullet dual structure core to substitute current lead core by environment-friendly combination of W-Cu-Ni system high density composite materials. So the four combination samples were made of dual core with the different center of gravity location backward or forward compare to that of lead type bullet, and we experimented about the performance of 9mm bullet dual structure core. In the experimental results, the outer shape of core of four environment friendly samples on the target maintain marginally, while the current lead core bullets are completely crushed after hitting the target. The penetration depth of environment friendly samples excel seven times to lead type bullet and the three out of four samples with forward adjusted center of gravity penetrate deep as twice as ones backward. The impact tolerance of all four samples satisfies military specification, however, more firing tests are required to improve reliability of scattering distribution.

  • Lettuce is an economically important leafy vegetable that accumulates a milk-like sap called latex in the laticifer. Previously, we conducted a large-scale lettuce latex proteomic analysis. However, the identified proteins were obtained only from lettuce ESTs and proteins deposited in NCBI databases. To extend the number of known latex proteins, we carried out an analysis identifying 302 additional proteins that were matched to the NCBI non-redundant protein database. Interestingly, the newly identified proteins were not recovered from lettuce EST and protein databases, indicating the usefulness of this hetero system in MudPIT analysis. Gene ontology studies revealed that the newly identified latex proteins are involved in many processes, including many metabolic pathways, binding functions, stress responses, developmental processes, protein metabolism, transport and signal transduction. Application of the non-redundant plant protein database led to the identification of an increased number of latex proteins. These newly identified latex proteins provide a rich source of information for laticifer research.

  • Since the skin covers most surfaces of the body, it is susceptible to damage, which can be fatal depending on the degree of injury to the skin because it defends against external attack and protects internal structures. Various types of artificial skin are being studied for transplantation to repair damaged skin, and recently, the production of replaceable skin using three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting technology has also been investigated. In this study, skin tissue was produced using a 3D bioprinter with human skin cell lines and cells extracted from mouse skin, and the printing conditions were optimized. Gelatin was used as a bioink, and fibrinogen and alginate were used for tissue hardening after printing. Printed skin tissue maintained a survival rate of 90% or more when cultured for 14 days. Culture conditions were established using 8 mM calcium chloride treatment and the skin tissue was exposed to air to optimize epidermal cell differentiation. The skin tissue was cultured for 14 days after differentiation induction by this optimized culture method, and immunofluorescent staining was performed using epidermal cell differentiation markers to investigate whether the epidermal cells had differentiated. After differentiation, loricrin, which is normally found in terminally differentiated epidermal cells, was observed in the cells at the tip of the epidermal layer, and cytokeratin 14 was expressed in the lower cells of the epidermis layer. Collectively, this study may provide optimized conditions for bioprinting and keratinization for three-dimensional skin production.

  • A total of 47 core collections of pepper (Capsicum chinense Jacq.) conserved in National Agrobiodiversity Center (NAC) were studied under field condition at Jeonju. All accessions were characterized for their 14 qualitative and 16 quantitative characters. Results revealed that both qualitative and quantitative characters exhibited wide variation among the studied germplasm. Distribution of fruit characters (fruit length, width, and fruit wall thickness) among the accessions was positively skewed. Of the 47 accessions evaluated, 38.3% accessions had conical shaped fruits and mature fruit color was predominantly red (51.1%), orange (21.3%) and yellow (14.9%). Principal component analyses revealed that (i) 56.64% of the qualitative (fruit shape, color and fruit surface) variation and (ii) 89.42% of the quantitative (plant width, height and fruit maturity days) variation were explained by the first two components. Clustering revealed two groups and dendrogram revealed morphological variation among accessions. The phenotypic diversity exists in this core collections provide valuable information to improve agronomic traits in pepper breeding program.

  • Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) play vital roles in protein biosynthesis of living organisms and are interesting antibacterial drug targets. In order to find out new inhibitor candidate molecules as antibacterial agent, the binding modes of the candidate molecules were investigated at the active sites of aaRSs by molecular docking study. The docking simulations were performed with 48 compounds from four different scaffolds into the eight different aaRSs. The results show that scaffolds 3 and 4 compounds have consistently better binding capabilities, specifically for HisRS (E. coli) and IleRS (S. aureus). The binding modes of the best compounds with the proteins were well compatible with those of two ligands in crystal structures. Therefore, we expect that the final compounds we present may have reasonable aaRS inhibitory activity.

  • Salt cores have attracted considerable attention for their application to the casting process of electric vehicle parts as a solution to ecological issues. However, the salt core still has low mechanical strength for use in high-pressure die casting. In this study, we investigated the improvements in the bending strength of KCl-based salt cores resulting from the use of reinforcing materials. KCl and Na2CO3 powders were used as matrix materials, and glass fiber and carbon fiber were used as reinforcing materials. The effects of carbon fiber and glass fiber contents on the bending strength properties were investigated. Here, we obtained a new fiber-reinforced salt core composition with improved bending strength for high-pressure die casting by adding a relatively small amount of glass fiber (0.3 wt%). The reinforced salt core indicates the improved properties, including a bending strength of 49.3 Mpa, linear shrinkage of 1.5%, water solubility rate of 16.25 g/min·m2 in distilled water, and hygroscopic rate of 0.058%.

  • In the present paper, the characteristics of Mega-Flux$^{(R)}$, JNEX-Core$^{(R)}$, amorphous and ferrite cores are compared to the inductor of buck-boost converters for Hybrid Electric Vehicles. Core losses are analyzed at the condition of 10 kHz sine wave excitations, and permeability fluctuations vs. temperature and magnetizing force will be analyzed and discussed. Under the specifications of the buck-boost converter for 20 kW THS-II, the power inductor will be designed with Mega-Flux$^{(R)}$ and JNEX-Core$^{(R)}$, and informative simulation results will be provided with respect to dc bias characteristics, core and copper losses.

  • The goal of total disc replacement is to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased functional spinal unit, by replacing the degenerated disc with a mobile bearing prosthesis. SB Charite III is named commercial product as the Artificial Intervertebral Disc (AID). SB Charite III consists of sliding core and endplate made by Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) and cobalt chrome alloy, respectively. To evaluate the effect of von-Mises stress in AID, and three-dimensional finite element model of AID analysis was preformed for four different loading types of sliding core. Consequently, endplate was compared with a compressive preload at 400N and flexion moment at $3{\sim}9Nm4. Therefore, this research has obtained result that von-Mises stress of sliding core in AID disc by radius curvature.

  • This paper focuses on possibility to design and fabrication new combination of bullet core to substitute current toxic material of heavy metal such as lead by environment-friendly ones. The core is designed as dual structure to manipulate the core center of gravity easily by combining materials, which of basis is tungsten of low cost and easily acquired. Those combinations are W-M series such as W-Cu, W-Sn, W-Cu-Sn, and W-Cu-Ni to target the density of lead, $11.34g/cm^3$ through powder-metallurgy. Out of four, combination of W-Cu-Ni shows the highest compression density of 96% and is confirmed as the most suitable substitution for lead due to the excellent property of matter and sintering. All combination samples is simulated on the PRODAS software for designing and structure analysis by adjusting the center of gravity of dual core samples forward and backward. The simulations confirm the similarity of current bullet core with respect to properties of mass, aero dynamics, and flying stability.
