  • In this paper, a method of measuring the length of defects on the wall and restructuring the defect image is proposed based on the estimation algorithm of a camera orientation which uses the declination angle of a laser slit beam. The estimation algorithm of the horizontally inclined angle of CCD camera adopts a 3-dimensional coordinate transformation of the image plane where both the laser beam and the original image of the defects exist. The estimation equation is obtained by using the information of the beam projected on the wall and the parameters of this equation are experimentally obtained. With this algorithm, the original image of the defect can be reconstructed to an image normal to the wall. From the result of a series of experiments, the measuring accuracy of the defect is measured within 0.5% error bound of real defect size under 30 degree of the horizontally inclined angle. The proposed algorithm provides the method of reconstructing the image taken at any arbitrary horizontally inclined angle to the image normal to the wall and thus, it enables the accurate measurement of the defect lengths only by using a single camera and a laser slit beam.

  • Unknown inputs observer(UIO) which is achieved by the coordinate transformation method has the differential of system outputs in the observer and the equation for unknown inputs estimation. Generally, the differential of system outputs in the observer can be eliminated by defining a new variable. But it brings about the partition of the observer into two subsystems and need of an additional differential of system outputs still remained to estimate the unknown inputs. Therefore, the block pulse function expansions and its differential operation which is a newly derived in this paper are presented to alleviate such problems from an algebraic form.

  • A new approach to the maneuvering target tracking problem is proposed. Its basic concept is to take the maneuver variable from the measurements. Tracking scheme based on the Kalman filter estimates the maneuver varieble from the residual and uses the estimates to update the Kalman filter. The estimation process is independent of target types and a model of the maneuver characteristics. All the filtering algorithms are processed in polor coordinate. Simulation results are presented and compared to that of the extended Kalman filter.

  • We propose an accurate and efficient estimation method of transverse shear stresses for analysis and design of laminated composite structures by 4-node quadrilateral degenerated shell elements. To get proper distributions of transverse shear stresses in each layer, we use 3-dimensional equilibrium equations instead of constitutive equations with shear correction factors which vary diversely according to the shapes of shell sections. Three dimensional equilibrium equations are integrated through the thickness direction with complete polynomial membrane stress fields, which are recovered by REP (Recovery by Equilibrium in Patches) recovery method. The 4-node quadrilateral degenerated shell element used in this paper has drilling degrees of freedom and shear stresses derived from assumed strain fields that are set up at natural coordinate systems. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed estimation method attains reasonable accuracy and efficiency compared with other methods and FE analysis using 4-node degenerated shell elements.

  • In this paper, for the accurate estimation of the position and orientation of the UUV (unmanned underwater vehicle), an AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) was developed using the IMU (inertial measurement unit) sensor which provides information on acceleration and orientation in the object coordinate and the initial alignment algorithm and the E-KF (extended Kalman Filter). The initial position and orientation of the UUV are estimated using the initial alignment algorithm with 3-axis acceleration and geomagnetic information of the IMU sensor. The position and orientation of the UUV are estimated using the AHRS composed of 3-axis acceleration, velocity, and geomagnetic information and the E-KF. For the performance test of the orientation estimation of the AHRS, a testbed using IMU sensor(ADIS16405) and DSP28335 coded with an E-KF algorithm was developed and its performance was verified through tests.

  • This paper deals with an electromagnetic analysis and control parameter estimation of a moving-coil linear oscillatory actuator (MCLOA). Analytical solutions for electromagnetic characteristics of the MCLOA are obtained from transfer relations derived in terms of a magnetic vector potential and two-dimensional (2-d) rectangular coordinate systems. And then, on the basis of 2-d analytical solutions, control parameters such as the thrust constant, the back-emf constant and winding inductances are estimated. Finally, analytical results for both electromagnetic characteristics and control parameters of the MCLOA are validated extensively by finite element (FE) analyses. In particular, test results such as static thrust, resistance and inductance measurements are given to confirm the analyses.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method for estimating the number of people and their locations using multiple IR-UWB radar sensors. Using three IR-UWB radar sensors in the indoor space, the measured signal from the target is processed to remove the clutter using rejection methods. Then, to further remove the clutter and to determine the presence of the human, the time-frequency image representing the micro-Doppler is obtained and classified by a convolutional neural network. Finally, the system finds the number of human objects and estimates each position in a two-dimensional space. In experiments using the measured data, the system successfully estimated the location and number of individuals with a high accuracy ≈ 88.68 %.
