  • The authors investigate influences of manipulator dynamics on and roles of kinesthetic sensation and visual sensation in a Human-Machine Cooperative System (HMCS). At first, the general structure and essential transfer functions of HMCSs are described based on the previous work. Then, after showing theoretical treatment of manipulator dynamics, this paper analyzes the influences on HMCSs in two cases: one is the control design focusing on tool dynamics and reaction force transfer function, and the other is that specifies maneuver transfer function and transfer function for object dynamics variation. In addition to conventional experiments only employing kinesthetic sensation, other experiments with both kinesthetic and visual sensations are performed to examine difference in the roles of these sensations and the validity of the design without the visual sensation.

  • Engineering design applications require the support of long transactions in cooperative environments. The problem of the existing copy/update/merge approaches is that the partial effects of a committed transaction may be not part of the merged version. This paper introduces a new cooperative transaction model, which allows updates to be progressively notified or propagated into other transactions accessing the same object. To support incremental update propagation and notification, we use the term dynamic dependency to define the intertransaction dependency relationships among all the objects checked out from the public database. Consistency in multiple copies of the same object is achieved by a two-phase delta-merge protocol. Our model provides a synchronization of cooperative updates performed in several workspaces without using locking mechanisms.

  • In a small-scale class, children gradually lose interests in studying and develop negative and passive attitudes in class activities due to the uniform education. Although many cooperative instruction WBI models are studied and designed, there has not been any research on cooperative instruction model appropriate for a small-scale class. In this study, instructors participate in classes, each in connection with other small-scale classes, and WWW based cooperative instruction model, WIEZ, which can affect students' learning attitude on long-term basis, was designed and embodied. Currently, WIEZ is being under experimental test in three schools at Kyung-nam where instructors design classes, and students divided into groups participate in classes in this system.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of the Cooperative Clinical Nursing Education Program on the competency and satisfaction of nursing students in clinical practice. Method: The research design was a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a convenience sample of 107 nursing students who were at one College of Nursing located in Seoul. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: Nursing students participated in the program reported higher nursing skills and total satisfaction than control group after completing education program. Conclusion: Cooperative clinical nursing education program for nursing students had positive effects on nursing skills and satisfaction of clinical practice.

  • In this paper, we propose two different types of cooperative transmission protocols, referred to as spatial multiplexing with receive diversity (SMRD), that are bandwidth-efficient. We show that the BER performance can be significantly improved with a proper design of SMRD protocol under the AF (Amplify-and-Forward) and the DF (Decode-and-Forward) modes of relaying, when there is no interference among all symbols transmitted in the same time slot. BER analysis and our simulation result show that the proposed transmission protocol achieves a significant gain over no-cooperation (direct transmission) without any bandwidth expansion.

  • This paper is a study on the design and implementation of cooperative monitoring agent using mobile agent for educational portal site. Generally educational portal sites have many addresses of teachers homepage. Therefore, portal site has a very difficult task with maintaining a consistent address of site and administration of portal is impossible while to be on the search for all dead sites. In order to overcome this problem, we designed and implemented a mutual cooperative monitoring agent in order to filter off dead site using mobile agent. The monitoring agent applies at Korean educational portal site (KEPS) for elementary student and makes an experiment efficient. Finally a cooperative mobile agent is compared with a stationary monitoring agent.

  • This paper presents the conceptual design of a cooperative control with Energy Management System (EMS) and Distribution Management System (DMS). This control enables insufficient reactive power reserve in a power transmission system to be supplemented by surplus reactive power in a power distribution system on the basis of the amount of the needed reactive power reserve calculated by the EMS. This can be achieved, because increased numbers of microgrids with distributed energy resources will be installed in the distribution system. Furthermore, the DMS with smart control strategy by using surplus reactive power in the distribution system of the area has been gradually installed in the system as well. Therefore, a kind of hierarchical voltage control and cooperative control scheme could be considered for the effective use of energy resources. A quantitative index to evaluate the current reactive power reserve of the transmission system is also required. In the paper, the algorithm for the whole cooperative control system, including Area-Q Indicator (AQI) as the index for the current reactive power reserve of a voltage control area, is devised and presented. Finally, the performance of the proposed system is proven by several simulation studies.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and apply cooperative learning using module cards for SW education for beginner and to analyze their effects and perceptions. Cooperative learning using 30 module cards consists of 3 activities and we applied it to elementary school students to verify the effectiveness of the learning. For the research analysis, we analyzed the pre-post motivation of SW education, the degree of satisfaction, interest level, and step recognition of the cooperative learning. As a result of the analysis, the learning motivation showed significant improvement in all areas of attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. Students also found that the second stage of cooperative learning using module cards was the most interesting and the third was the most helpful.

  • In this paper, we propose a cooperative protocol of relay-based WUSB/DRD and WLP device in WSS of ship area WiMedia environment. For this purpose, we investigate a RNT table configuration and algorithm of RNS relay node used in relay-based cooperative communication. Then, we describe a device that makes up WLP network and propose a cooperative protocol for WUSB/DRD/WLP device communication. The proposed cooperative protocol can communicate with WUSB/DRD/WLP devices by using standard DRP reservation and WUSB DRP reservation.

  • In this paper, the downlink performance of multi-cell distributed antenna systems (DAS) with a single user in each cell is investigated. Assuming the channel state information is available at the transmitter, four transmission modes are formulated as combinations of remote antenna units (RAUs) selection and cooperative transmission, namely, non-cooperative transmission without RAU selection (NCT), cooperative transmission without RAU selection (CT), non-cooperative transmission with RAU selection (NCT_RAUS), and cooperative transmission with RAU selection (CT_RAUS). By using probability theory, the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of a user's signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and the system ergodic capacity under the above four modes are determined, and their closed-form expressions are obtained. Furthermore, the system energy efficiency (EE) is studied by introducing a realistic power consumption model of DAS. An expression for determining EE is formulated, and the closed-form tradeoff relationship between spectral efficiency (SE) and EE is derived as well. Simulation results demonstrate their consistency with the theoretical analysis and reveal the factors constraining system EE, which provide a scientific basis for future design and optimization of DAS.
