  • We propose the efficient channel coding method combined with a 2.4kbps speech coder. The code rate of a channel coder is given by 1/2 and 1/2 rate convolutional coder is obtained from the punctured convolutional coder with rate of 1/3. The punctured convolutional coder is used for a variable rate allocation. The puncturing method according to the importance of the output data of the source encoder is applied for the convolutional coder. The importance of output data is analyzed by evaluating the bit error sensitivity of speech parameter bits. The performance of proposed coder is analyzed and simulated in Rayleigh fading channel and AWGN channel. The experimental results with 2.4kbps EHSX coder show that the variable rate channel coding method is superior to non-variable channel coding method from the subjective speech quality.

  • In this study, the efficient channel coding method combined with CS-ACELP is proposed. The same convolutional coder and Viterbi decoder of COMA mobile communication system is used as channel coder. To make the best available use of limited channel coding redundancy, unequal error protection of punctured convolutional coder is used for variable reate allocation. But, the overall code rate is given by 2. The performance of proposed coder is analyzed and simulated in a Rayleigh fading channel. Experimental results show that the objective and subjective speech quality of variable rate channel coding methods are superior to those of non-variable channel coding method.

  • WLAN technologies enable high-speed data transmission in a small space with relatively low cost and power. There are two main standardizations regarding WLAN; namely, IEEE802.11a and ETSI BRAN. Two standards use a radio frequency of 5 ㎓ band and employs OFDM as a transmission mode. OFDM is known to provide high-frequency efficiency as well as high-speed data transmission. In this paper, We use SPW simulation tool and implement the HIPERLAN/2 system. Based on the HIPERLAN/2 system in the SPW platform, the system performance is analyzed and compared with turbo codes in place of a convolutional coder of the HIPERLAN/2 WLAN system. The simulation results show that the performance with the turbo codes (rate 1/3 and 1/4) at a data rate of 12 Mbps shows 3 ㏈ gain over the system with the convolutional codes. At a data rate of 36 Mbps, the performance with the turbo codes is further improved by approximately 4 ㏈.

  • In speech coding scheme, because information bits have different error sensitivities over channel errors, the channel coder for combining with speech coding should be realized by the variable coding rate considering the bit importance of speech information bits. In realizing the 4 kbps channel coder for 12kbps speech, this paper have chosen the channel coding method by analyzing the hard-decision post-decoding error rate of RCPC(Rate Compatible Punctured Convolutional) codes and bit error sensitivity of 12 kbps speech. Under the coherent QPSK and Rayleigh fading channel, the performance analysis has showed that 10dB gain was obtained in speech SEGSNR by 4-level uneuqal error protection, which was compared with the caseof no channel coding at 7dB channel SNR.

  • In this paper, a next generation high speed QPSK transmitter is designed based on 1.8${\mu}$m design rule. The designed transmitter supports the MPEG2-TS coded packed data for the DAVIC standard. Transmitter is composed of the convolutional coder, the shortened Reed-Solomon coder, and QPSK modulator. The coded packets are modulated in APSK with an RC filter. Especially, Galois Field multiplier with a standard basis is designed with the pipelined parallel architecture. Also, in the QPSK modulator, the RC filter and mixer are simplified into the ROM table, which can improve the performance of the transmitter. The total number of gates for the implemented baseband transmitter is 26,875.

  • In this paper, forward error control coding in multicarrier direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems is considered. In order to accommodate a number of coding rates easily and make the encoder and do-coder structure simple, we use the rate compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) code. We obtain data throughputs at several coding rates and choose the coding rate which has the highest data throughput in the SINR sense. To achieve maximum data throughput, a rate adaptive system using channel state information (the SINR estimate) is proposed. The SINR estimate is obtain by the soft decision Viterbi decoding metric. We show that the proposed rate adaptive convolutionally coded multicarrier DS/CDMA system can enhance spectral efficiency and provide frequency diversity.

  • In this paper, we presented a modeling of the power line channel and a new digital communication system over the channel. Firstly, we proposed a new tranceiver structure with DS-CDMA spread spectrum technique and convolutional coder and block interleaver against severe noisy power line environment. Also, QPSK modulation technique was used to get bandwidth efficiency. And then we performed a simulative evaluation of the system using MATLAB communication/simulink toolbox. According to the simulation results, the proposed system gives $10^{-6}$ BER at 20dB SNR.

  • Wireless optical communication is able to obtain high antenna gain as well as utilize to transmit the high-speed information with large capacity than the RF communication. However, the propagation path (atmosphere) is considered as an attenuator occured turbulence, absorption and scattering. These undesired phenomena diminish the amount of light that is collected at the receiver. To evaluate the effect of the atmospheric turbulance and scattering, this paper perform the ground-to-ground wireless optical LAN experiment by using the (2,1,6) convolutional coder and Viterbi decoder, and analyze numerically the earth-station antenna diameter due to the propagation path condition and upstream/downstream link.

  • Space-Time Coding(STC) is a technique that utilizes joint correlation of transmitted signals in both time and space domains. Through this approach, diversity and coding gains can be simultaneously obtained. In this paper, we use SPW simulation tool to implement the IEEE 802.11a system. Based on this system, OFDM system with STC and convolutional coder concatenated is implemented. The system performance is analyzed and compared with the performance of the IEEE 802.11a system. The simulation results show that the performance with concatenated codes at a data rate of 6Mbps shows approximately a 5dB gain over the system with the convolutional code only. At a data rate of 12Mbps, the performance with concatenated codes is further improved by approximately 6dB.
