This paper describes the design of a small size Alkali Metal Thermal to Electric Converter (AMTEC) which employs a capillary structure for recirculating sodium working fluid. The cycle is based on the simple and small capillary type ${\beta}"$ -alumina and wick tube element. The proposed cell consists of the 37 conversion elements with capillary tube of $50{\mu}m$ in diameter and the sealed cylindrical vessel of 22mm in outer diameter. Results on the cycle analysis of sodium flow and heat transfer in the cell showed that the expected power output was 4.65W and the conversion efficiency was 19% for the source temperature of 900K.
The objective of this study is to clarify the detailed performances of the impulse type radial turbine and to present an optimum configuration of the turbine. The impulse type radial turbine has been manufactured and investigated experimentally under steady and sinusoidally oscillating flow conditions by model testing. Then, the starting characteristics under sinusoidally flow conditions have been evaluated by a numerical simulation using a quasi-steady analysis. As a result, the running and starting characteristics of the impulse type radial turbine for wave energy conversion have been clarified. Furthermore, the recommended configuration is presented, especially for setting angles of inner and outer guide vanes.

A CMOS frequency synthesizer for $5{\sim}6$ GHz UNII-band sub-harmonic direct-conversion receiver has been developed. For quadrature down-conversion with sub-harmonic mixing, octa-phase local oscillator (LO) signals are generated by an integer-N type phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer. The complex timing issue of feedback divider of the PLL with large division ratio is solved by using multimodulus prescaler. Phase noise of the local oscillator signal is improved by employing the ring-type LC-tank oscillator and switching its tail current source. Implemented in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, the phase noise of the LO signal is lower than -80 dBc/Hz and -113 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz and 1MHz offset, respect-tively. The measured reference spur is lower than -70 dBc and the power consumption is 40 m W from a 1.8 V supply voltage.
Rebamipide, 2-(4-chlorobenzoylamino)-3-[2(1H)-quinolinone-4-yl]-propionic acid, a novel antipeptic ulcer agent, has been reported to prevent various acute experimental gastric mucosal lesions and to accelerate the healing of chronic ulcers. Therapeutic effect of rebamipide was investigated with regard to the inhibitory effect on xanthine oxidase activity and type conversion of the enzyme which play a profound role in oxygen radicals generation system. Intraperitoneal administration of rebamipide at 60 mg/kg body weight reduced the xanthine oxidase activity, lipid peroxide content in ammonia induced hemorrhagic lesion. These results suggest that the therapeutic effect of rebamipide on gastric mucosal lesion may be in part due to the inhibitory activity of xanthine oxidase and type conversion rate of the enzyme.
The purpose of this study is to provide the technical methods of apartment remodeling. To gather information, a survey of the technical methods of apartment remodeling in domestic and foreign was conducted. As a case study, three types will be applicable to apartment remodeling: Horizontally expanding remodeling, combining remodeling, conversion remodeling. The results of the study are as follows: 1. Horizontally expanding remodeling type will be applied the dry construction and anchor pile foundation at skeleton and the double flooring at infill. 2. Combining remodeling type will be applied the dry wall construction in order to establish or remove the partition walls. 3. Conversion remodeling type will be applied that converting building equipments and interior finish materials conversion of old to new materials.
We investigated the effect of hydrogen peroxide-treated metallothionein on the hepatic xanthine oxidase activity in vitro. When the metallothionein was preincubated with 1 mM of hydrogen peroxide, the activity of xanthine oxidase and type conversion were elevated dose-dependently by the addition of metallothionein into the reaction mixture. While increasing the treatment of hydrogen peroxide to the $50{\mu}g$of metallothionein, the xanthine oxidase activity and type conversion ratio were remarkably elevated dose dependently compared to the control. When cadmium ion was added to the reaction mixture, the increasing pattern of the enzyme activity was similar to the effect of hydrogen peroxide-treated metallothionein. DTT or penicillamine restored the increasing activity and type conversion of xanthine oxidase by the cadmium ion to the control level.
In this paper, we propose a new resolver-to digital(R/D) conversion method, in which a bang-bang type phase comparator is employed for fast tracking. We eliminate from the R/D conversion loop the low-pass filter which is needed to reject carrier signal and noise. Instead, we employ two prefilters outside the R/D conversion loop that take the role of the low-pass filter. Thereby, we can construct a fast and accurate tracking R/D converter. Some simulation and experimental results as well as mathematical performance analysis are presented to demonstrate the superior tracking performance of our R/D converter over conventional tracking R/D converters.
This paper addresses the issue of constraints on the conversion of the participle II in German, proposing a constraint-based lexical semantic approach. I argue against the widely accepted syntactic view which is based on the dichotomous distinction of intransitive verbs, which has been advanced by the Unaccusative Hypothesis [Perlmutter (1978)]. Several arguments are also given against the semantic view which is based on some aspectual notions such as 'telicity', 'transformativity' or 'terminativity'. The crucial constraints on the conversion of the participle II in German, it is argued, is instead two lexical semantic entailments, movement with a definite change of location and affectedness. These and other lexical semantic entailments in the sense of Dowty (1991) are encoded into the multiple inheritance type hierarchy of qfpsoa. The proposal made in this paper is based on the multiple inheritance hierarchy which is envisaged in a recent framework of head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar.
We report on the simulation results of 1)the second harmonic conversion with $1.053{\mu}m$ Nd:glass laser using monolithic KDP crystal and 2)the efficient conversion from $1.053{\mu}m$ to $0.35{\mu}m$ by the polarization-mismatch 3rd harmonic conversion in two Type-II crystals.
-Part I- As market needs become more various, the production of smaller quantities of a wider variety of products becomes increasingly important. In addition, in order to meet demands for more efficient production, long-term unmanned factory operation is prevailing at a remarkable pace. Within this context, laser machines are gaining increasing popularity for use in applications such as cutting and welding metallic and ceramic materials. FANUC supplies four models of $CO_2$ laser oscillators with laser power ranging from 1.5㎾ to 6㎾ on an OEM basis to machine tool builders. However, FANUC has been requested to produce laser oscillators that allow more compact and lower-cost laser machines to be built. To meet such demands, FANUC has developed six models of Slab type YAG laser oscillators with output power ranging from 150W to 2㎾. These oscillators are designed mainly fur cutting and welding sheet metals. The oscillator has an exceptionally superior laser beam quality compared to conventional YAG laser oscillators, thus providing significantly improved machining capability. In addition, the laser beam of the oscillator can be efficiently transmitted through quartz optical fibers, enabling laser machines to be simplified and made more compact. This paper introduces the features of FANUC’s developed Slab type YAG laser oscillators and their applications. - Part II - All-solid-state lasers employing laser diodes (LD) as a source of pumping solid-state laser feature high efficiency, compactness, and high reliability. Thus, they are expected to provide a new generation of processing tools in various fields, especially in automobile and aircraft industries where great hopes are being placed on laser welding technology for steel plates and aluminum materials for which a significant growth in demand is expected. Also, in power plants, it is hoped that reliability and safety will be improved by using the laser welding technology. As in the above, the advent of high-power all-solid-state lasers may not only bring a great technological innovation to existing industry, but also create new industry. This is the background for this project, which has set its sights on the development of high-power, all-solid-state lasers with an average output of over 10㎾, an oscillation efficiency of over 20%, and a laser head volume of below 0.05㎥. FANUC Ltd. is responsible for the research and development of slab type lasers, and TOSHIBA Corp. far rod type lasers. By pumping slab type Nd: YAG crystal and by using quasi-continuous wave (QCW) type LD stacks, FANUC has already obtained an average output power of 1.7㎾, an optical conversion efficiency of 42%, and an electro-optical conversion efficiency of 16%. These conversion efficiencies are the best results the world has ever seen in the field of high-power all-solid-state lasers. TOSHIBA Corp. has also obtained an output power of 1.2㎾, an optical conversion efficiency of 30%, and an electro-optical conversion efficiency of 12%, by pumping the rod type Nd: YAG crystal by continuous wave (CW) type LD stacks. The laser power achieved by TOSHIBA Corp. is also a new world record in the field of rod type all-solid-state lasers. This report provides details of the above results and some information on future development plans.
