  • It is well-known that the convergence rate gets worse when an input signal to an adaptive filter is correlated. In this paper we propose a new adaptive filtering algorithm that makes the convergence rate highly improved even for highly correlated input signals. By introducing an orthogonal constraint between successive input signal vectors, we overcome the slow convergence problem caused by the correlated input signal. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm yields highly improved convergence speed and excellent tracking capability under both time-invariant and time varying environments, while keeping both computation and implementation simple.

  • The convergence of finite volume method (FVM) or discrete ordinate method (DOM) is known to degrade for optical thickness greater than unity and large scattering albedo. The present article presents a convergence acceleration procedure for the FVM based on a full approximation storage (FAS) multigrid method. Among a variety of multigrid cycles, the V-cycle is used and the full multigrid algorithm (FMG) is applied to an analysis of radiation in irregular two-dimensional geometry. Solution convergence is discussed for the several cases of various optical thickness and scattering albedo. At small scattering albedo and optical thickness, there is no advantage to using the multigrid method for calculation CPU time. For large scattering albedo greater than 0.5 and optical thickness greater than unity, however, the multigrid method improves the convergence and the solution is rapidly obtained.

  • It is well known that preconditioning methods are efficient for convergence acceleration at compressible low Mach number flows. In this study, the original Euler equations and three preconditioners nondimensionalized differently are implemented in two dimensional inviscid bump flows using the 3rd order MUSCL and DADI schemes as flux discretization and time integration respectively. The multigrid and local time stepping methods are also used to accelerate the convergence. The test case indicates that a properly modified local preconditioning technique involving concepts of a global preconditioning one produces Mach number independent convergence. Besides, an asymptotic analysis for properties of preconditioning methods is added.

  • This study was intended to quantify the acceleration and deceleration information measured in the competition by using GPS device for the national women's field hockey players and to identify the difference in movement by classifying them by position. For this study, 308 acceleration and deceleration data were collected from 16 women's field hockey players measured at international competitions. According to research results, the frequency of acceleration was in the order of midfield > defender > striker, acceleration distance was midfield > striker > defender. The frequency of deceleration appeared in the order of midfield > defender > striker, deceleration distance was defender > striker > defender. Based on the results of this study, can be used as basic data when setting the strength and amount of training for field hockey players.

  • Due to its computational efficiency and geometrical flexibility, the Method of Characteristics (MOC) has been widely used for light water reactor lattice physics analysis. Usually acceleration methods are necessary for MOC to achieve acceptable convergence on practical reactor physics problems. Among them, Coarse Mesh Finite Difference (CMFD) is very popular and can drastically reduce the number of transport iterations. In OpenMOC, CMFD acceleration was implemented but had the limitation of supporting only a uniform CMFD mesh, which would often lead to splitting MOC source regions, thus creating an unnecessary increase in computation and memory use. In this study, CMFD acceleration with a non-uniform Cartesian mesh is implemented into OpenMOC. We also propose a quadratic fit based CMFD prolongation method in the axial direction to further improve the acceleration when multiple MOC source regions are contained in one CMFD coarse mesh. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the improvement of the CMFD acceleration capability in OpenMOC in terms of both efficiency and stability.

  • A line search algorithm to increase a convergence in Newton's method is developed and applied to nonlinear finite element analysis. The algorithm is based on the slack line search theory which is an efficient algorithm to determine initial acceleration coefficient, variable backtracking algorithm proposed by some researchers, and convergence criterion based on residual norm. Also, it is capable of avoiding exceptional diverging conditions. Developed program is tested in metal forming simulation such as forging and ring rolling. Numerical result shows the validity of the algorithm for a highly nonlinear system .

  • This study investigated the so far little-researched characteristics of the behaviors of rock slopes at the time of an earthquake. For the selection of the rock block, a proper model was formed by applying the similarity in consideration of the roughness and strength of the rock slope(10m) on the site, and shaking table tests were carried out according to seismic excitement acceleration, and seismic waves. In the case of the inclination angle of the joint plane of 20°, the long period wave at 0.3g or more at the time of the seismic excitement surpassed the length of 100mm, the permissible displacement (0.01H, H:slope height), which brought about the collapse of the rock; the short period wave surpassed the permissible displacement at 0.1g, which caused the collapse of the slope. The rock slope was close to a rigid block and a structure more vulnerable to the long period wave than to the short period wave. It collapsed in the short period wave even at the seismic amplitude smaller than the maximum design acceleration in Korea.

  • To restore image degraded by out-of-focus blur and additive noise, an iterative restoration is used. Acceleration parameter is usually applied equally to all over the image without considering the local characteristics of degraded images. As a result, the conventional methods are not effective in restoring severely degraded edge region and shows slow convergence rate. To solve this problem we propose an adaptive iterative restoration according to local degradation, in which the acceleration parameter has low value in flat region that is less degraded and high value in edge region that is more degraded. Through experiments, we verified that the proposed method showed better results with fast convergence rate, showed Visually better image in edge region and lower MSE than the conventional methods.

  • In an ultrasonic glass scriber, the effect of ultrasonic vibration and its optimum driving frequency were investigated experimentally. To investigate the optimum ultrasonic frequency theoretically, the vibration model of the ultrasonic scriber is assumed. The frequency for maximum amplitude of acceleration is obtained theoretically. To investigate the depth of cutting edge corresponding the each frequency. The quartz glass plate specimen with a dimension of $200mm(L){\times}30mm(W){\times}3mm(T)$ is selected. The ultrasonic transducer is operated by the constant acceleration amplitude for the every frequency. The maximum crack depth was generated when the driving frequency was 18.35kHz. These results were in good agreement with those of the calculated model theoretically.

  • Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-5 (KOMPSAT-5) is the first satellite in Korea that provides 1 m resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Precise orbit determination (POD) using a dual-frequency IGOR receiver data is performed to conduct high-resolution SAR images. We suggest orbit determination strategies based on a differential GPS technique. Double-differenced phase observations are sampled every 30 seconds. A dynamic model approach using an estimation of general empirical acceleration every 6 minutes through a batch least-squares estimator is applied. The orbit accuracy is validated using real data from GRACE and KOMPSAT-2 as well as simulated KOMPSAT-5 data. The POD results using GRACE satellite are adjusted through satellite laser ranging data and compared with publicly available reference orbit data. Operational orbit determination satisfies 5 m root sum square (RSS) in one sigma, and POD meets the orbit accuracy requirements of less than 20 cm and 0.003 cm/s RSS in position and velocity, respectively.
