  • An improved nonlinear speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) is presented. A quasi-linearized and decoupled model including the influence of parameter variations and speed measurement error on the nonlinear speed control of a PMSM is derived. Using this model, to overcome the drawbacks of conventional nonlinear control scheme, the improved nonlinear control scheme that employs time delay control(TDC) is proposed. To show the validity of the proposed control scheme, simulation studies are carried out and compared with the conventional control scheme.

  • Optimal model following control scheme is to design the controller which makes the response of real system follow that of desirable model. This kind of design scheme is developed for first order system. We extends the scheme for second order system regarding the characteristics of mechanical second order system for vibration suppression of flexible structures. The model of mechanical second order system is obtained using suitable damping ratios and natural frequencies. Using this scheme, we can design the good controller which uses the characteristic of second order system. Numerical examples are presented which were used optimal model following control scheme.

  • In this paper, a low cost and high reliability control scheme is proposed for 400Hz UPS system operated in parallel. The proposed control scheme is consisted of two parts which are synchronization and load sharing control. The synchronization control is achieved by discrete logic ICs and analog circuit. The load sharing control is realized by current transformers (CTs) without any controller. Therefore, This proposed control scheme is rather simple and the cost may be decreased, compared with control scheme using expensive controller such as DSP and CAN. The practical feasibility of the proposed control scheme is proved by analysis and simulation.

  • In this paper, a new nonlinear feedback linearization control scheme for induction motors is developed. The control scheme employs a fuzzy nonlinear identification scheme based on fuzzy basis function expansion to adoptively compensate the parameter variations, i.e. rotor resistance, mutual and self inductance etc. An important feature of the proposed control scheme is to incorporate the sliding mode controller into the scheme to speed up convergence rate. Simulation tests show the robust behavior of the proposed controller in the presence of the parameter uncertainties of the machine.

  • This paper presents speed control scheme of the PMSM which has torque compensator to reduce the speed error and ripple. The proposed speed controller is based on the conventional PI control scheme. But the additional torque compensator which is different to the conventional differential controller produces a compensation torque to suppress speed ripple. In order to determine the proper compensation, the activation function which has discrete value is used in the proposed control scheme. With the proposed activation function, the compensation torque acts to suppress the speed error increasing. The proposed speed control scheme is verified by the computer simulation and experiments of 400[W] PMSM. In the simulation and experiments, the proposed control scheme has better control performance compare than the conventional PI and PID control schemes.

  • In this work, we propose a concurrency control scheme in object-oriented database (OODB). Since an OODB provides complex modeling power than the conventional relational databases, a concurrency control technique in OODB is also rather complicated and has influence on the overall performance. Thus, it is very important to develop a concurrency control technique with less overhead. The proposed scheme deals with class hierarchy that is a key concept in OODBs. The proposed scheme is developed on implicit locking scheme. Also, the proposed scheme is designed using data access frequency in order to reduce locking overhead than implicit locking. It means that, if access frequency information is not available, the proposed scheme works just like the existing implicit locking, In our work, the correctness of the proposed scheme is proved. The performance is analyzed depending on access types. Also, it is proved that our scheme performs works much better than the implicit locking does.

  • Many of concurrency control for client-sewer database systems have been proposed and studied in the literature. However, commonly known schemes do not manage to the case of dramatic changes in data contention because the data contention of database systems is changed for each cases. In this paper, we propose o hybrid concurrency control. The proposed scheme uses a optimistic scheme for the first-run transactions and a pessimistic scheme for the second-run transactions. By pre-claiming locks in the second phase, deadlocks which ore possible in pessimistic based concurrency control are prevented in our approach. In addition, the scheme ensures at most one re-execution even if the validation in the optimistic phase fails. By a detailed simulation, this paper examines the behaviors of the Distributed Optimistic Concurrency Control and the proposed scheme. The simulation study shows our scheme outperforms Distributed Optimistic Concurrency Control in our experimental result.

  • This paper presents an adaptive control scheme for flexible joint robot manipulators. This control scheme is based on the Lyapunov direct method with the arm energy-based Lyapunov function. The proposed adaptive control scheme uses only the position and velocity feedback of link and motor shaft. The adaptive control system of flexible joint robots is asymptotically stable regardless of the joint flexibility value. Therefore, the assumption of weak joint ealsticity is not needed. Also, joint flexibility value is unknown. Simulation results are presented to show the feasibility of the proposed adaptive control scheme.

  • Statistical process control (SPC) and engineering process control (EPC) are based on different strategies for processes quality improvement. SPC reduces process variability by detecting and eliminating special causes of process variation. while EPC reduces process variability by adjusting compensatory variables to keep the quality variable close to target. Recently there has been needs for a process control proceduce which combines the tow strategies. This paper considers a combined scheme which simultaneously applies SPC and EPC techniques to reduce the variation of a process. The process model under consideration is an integrated moving average(IMA) process with a step shift. The EPC part of the scheme adjusts the process back to target at every fixed monitoring intervals, which is referred to a repeated adjustment scheme. The SPC part of the scheme uses an exponentially weighted moving average(EWMA) of observed deviation from target to detect special causes. A Markov chain model is developed to relate the scheme's expected cost per unit time to the design parameters of he combined control scheme. The expected cost per unit time is composed of off-target cost, adjustment cost, monitoring cost, and false alarm cost.

  • We investigate the possibility of application of the Goore Scheme to turbulence control for drag reduction. In Part I, we examine the performance of the original Goore Scheme by applying it to a si mple one-dimensional problem. For the application of the scheme to turbulence control, we extend the scheme's capability so that it can treat multi-dimensional problems and examine its validity theoretically. The convergence of the extended scheme with a dynamic memory is faster by an order of magnitude than the original scheme. In Part II, we apply the proposed scheme to reduce drag for turbulent channel flows through direct numerical simulation.
