Since the track of the ballastless steel plate girder bridge is connected to a main girder without a deck and a ballast, the impact generated by train passage is transferred directly to bridge main members, and it can cause frequent damage of the bridge as well as higher noise and vibration level. Applying the CWR (Continuously Welded Rail) technology can reduce this structural problems, and, to this end, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of factors influencing vehicle-track or track-bridge interaction. In this paper, experimental study results are presented for examining the longitudinal resistance characteristics of the track, including a rail fastener, a sleeper fastener, and a track skeleton, installed on a ballastless steel plate girder bridge. The experiment is conducted using a disposed bridge from service, which is transported to a laboratory. The experimental results show that the rail fastener satisfies the performance criteria of the longitudinal resistance presented in KRS TR 0014-15, and the longitudinal resistance of old and new type sleeper fasteners is higher than the values provided in the existing research. Also, the unloaded longitudinal resistance of the ballastless track is between the ballast and the concrete tracks.

Sliding slab track system, which consists of low friction sliding layer between track slab and bridge deck, is recently devised to reduce track-bridge interaction effect of continuously welded rail(CWR) without applying special devices such as rail expansion joint(REJ). In this study, a series of track-bridge interaction analyses of a long-span bridge with sliding slab track and REJ are performed respectively and the results are compared. The bridge model includes PSC box girder bridge with 9 continuous spans, and steel-concrete composite girder bridge with 2 continuous spans. The total length of the bridge model is 1,205m, and the maximum spacing between the two fixed supports is 825m. Analyses results showed that the sliding slab track system is highly effective on interaction reduction since lower rail additional axial stress is resulted than REJ application. Additionally, horizontal reaction forces in fixed supports were also reduced compared to the results of REJ application. However, higher slab axial forces were developed in the sliding slab track due to the temperature load. Therefore, track slab section of the sliding slab track system should be carefully designed against slab axial forces.

DangSan Bridge of Seoul Subway No 2 was rebuilt by safety reason. From Dec 1996 to Dec 1999 we were in charge of permanent way design of this rebuilt project. Especially we applied maintenance free system on the bridge by Cologne Egg alternative (ALT1) base plate and CWR (Continuous Welded Rail) by ZLR(Zero Longitudinal Restraint) for 125m (south approach section), 120m long(north approach section). This thesis generally introduce for CWR by ZLR which was first adapted CWR system in Korea.

In this study is presented a numerical method which assesses running safety of the freight car loading with loom CWR and structural safety of conventional railway track and fastening when passing over sharp curves and steel girder bridges. Optimal speed of the freight car is suggested based on the numerical reviews of the safety against derailment of the freight car and structural safety of track and fastening at vulnerable points of the conventional line.
This research presents the method to decide proper locations for destressing of CWR using a non-destructive equipments to measure the longitudinal force(installation temperature) in CWR. The effect and necessity of destressing were analyzed by estimating changes of longitudinal force. The installation temperature was measured to find changes of longitudinal force in high speed and conventional lines before and after destressing or track maintenance at the locations where destressing was planed or where change of longitudinal force was expected during track maintenance. Past destressing was carried out within qualitative decision criteria. This research proposes the quantitative criteria to decide the priority order of the destressing locations reasonably by considering the difference of air temperature and stress free temperature during the track maintenances, the grade of ballast resistance force recovering and the length of destressing, etc.
The lateral stability of curved continuous welded rail (CWR) is studied fur buckling prevention. This study includes the influences of vehicle induced loads on the thermal buckling behavior of straight and curved CWR tracks. quasi-static loads model is assumed to determine the uplift region, which occurs due to the vertical track deformation induced by wheel loads of vehicle. Parametric numerical analyses are performed to calculate the upper and lower critical buckling temperatures of CWR tracks. The parameters include track lateral resistance, track curvature, longitudinal stiffness, tie-ballast friction coefficient, axle load, truck center spacing, and the ratio of lateral to vertical vehicle load. This study provides a guideline for the improvement or stability for dynamic buckling in on tracks.
It is widely known that the temperature variation introduces the axial force along a CWR(Continuous Welded Rail) in the railway bridges. Additional axial forces are generated due to many other reasons. These includes the interaction between the bridge girder and the CWR; acceleration or deceleration of the vehicles; support rotation (or deflection) of the girder. Among aforementioned reasons, this study investigates the influence of the support rotation on additional axial forces throughout the numerical study and the field test. Several strains gauges are installed along the CWR and the strains are measured under passing trains. It is expected that the elaborated estimation of the axial force on CWR will be beneficial for future railway maintenance.

The bridges take a significant part of entire route in Korea railway, because 70% of Korean territory is covered with mountains. For this reason, span enlargement of railway bridges is more advantageous to increase economic efficiency on the bridge design. However there are many limitations such as additional axial force of the rail, excessive displacement due to track-bridge interaction. In this study, track-bridge interaction analysis was conducted considering the sliding layer which was installed between the track and girder. From the numerical analysis results, the behavior of track-bridge interaction was investigated according to the installation method of sliding layer. Finally, a guideline for development of track-bridge structure system to reduce the track-bridge interaction was proposed.
The stability analysis for CWR is difficult in the theory itself because both geometric and material nonlinearity should be considered. Also the analysis results are varied according to the loading history. In contrast to the complexity in the theory, the analysis results for CWR on the railway bridges are quite simple and can be predicted because of a small buckling effect and its negligible nonlinearity. In this study, refined nonlinear analysis methods for the stability analysis of CWR on the railway bridges were developed which consider only material nonlinearity beeause the effects of geometric nonlinearity are nominal. In this study, the analysis results can be found within limited number of iterations with idealized linear force-displacement relationship. From the analysis result comparisons, it was found that the stability analysis for CWR on the railway bridges can be performed effectively by this method.
The tilting-train is very attractive to the railroad users in the world because it runs with high speed in curved track using pre-existing infrastructure. The tilting-train has a unique allowable speed and mechanism expecially in curved track. Therefore, it should be evaluated in terms of the stability of the train operation and roadbed. In this study, when the tilting-train is being operated with the allowable speed, the behavior of the roadbed is evaluated by examining the settlement and bearing capacity of the roadbed. Additionally, the stability of the roadbed is estimated in the condition of soft roadbed influenced by the weather effects and cyclic train loading. The numerical results show that the roadbed settlements satisfy the allowable settlement when Young's moduli of the upper roadbed and in-situ soil are more than $2,300t/m^2\;and\;3,300t/m^2$, respectively, in the continuous welded rail (CWR) and $3,800t/m^2\;and\;4,600t/m^2$, respectively, in the rail joint.
