The optimum design of most structural systems used in practice requires considering design variables as discrete quantities. The present paper shows that the linear approximation method is very effective as a tool for the discrete optimum designs of unsymmetric composite laminates. The formulated design problem is subjected to a multiple in-plane loading condition due to shear and axial forces, bending and twisting moments, which is controlled by maximum strain criterion for each of the plys of a composite laminate. As an initial approach, the process of continuous variable optimization by FDM is required only once in operating discrete optimization. The nonlinear discrete optimization problem that has the discrete and continuous variables is transformed into the mixed integer programming problem by SLDP. In numerical examples, the discrete optimum solutions for the unsymmetric composite laminates consisted of six plys according to rotated stacking sequence were found, and then compared the results with the nonlinear branch and bound method to verify the efficiency of present method.
This paper presents the applicability of series tuned mass dampers (STMDs) to reduce the multiple resonant responses of continuous railway bridges under high-speed train. The bridge is modeled by two-span Bernoulli-Euler beam with uniform cross-section, and a STMD device consisting of two TMD units installed on the bridge to reduce its multiple resonant vibrations. The system is assumed to be under the action of a high-speed train passage which is modeled as a series of moving forces. Sequential Programming Technique (SQP) is carried out to find the optimal parameters of the STMD that minimizes the maximum peak responses of the bridge. Comparisons with the results available in the literature are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of STMD system in reducing the multiple resonant responses of the continuous railway bridges under high-speed trains.
In this paper, we propose a discriminative training algorithm for the stochastic segment model (SSM) in continuous speech recognition. As the SSM is usually trained by maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), a discriminative training algorithm is required to improve the recognition performance. Since the SSM does not assume the conditional independence of observation sequence as is done in hidden Markov models (HMMs), the search space for decoding an unknown input utterance is increased considerably. To reduce the computational complexity and starch space amount in an iterative training algorithm for discriminative SSMs, a hybrid architecture of SSMs and HMMs is programming using HMMs. Given the segment boundaries, the parameters of the SSM are discriminatively trained by the minimum error classification criterion based on a generalized probabilistic descent (GPD) method. With the discriminative training of the SSM, the word error rate is reduced by 17% compared with the MLE-trained SSM in speaker-independent continuous speech recognition.

In this paper, the polarization of piezoelectric materials is considered to improve actuation since the piezoelectric polarization has influences on the performance of the actuator. The topology design of compliant mechanism can be formulated as an optimization problem of material distribution in a fixed design domain and continuous approximation of material distribution (CAMD) method has demonstrated its effectiveness to prevent the numerical instabilities in topology optimization. The optimization problem is formulated to maximize the mean transduction ratio subject to the total volume constraints and solved using a sequential linear programming algorithm. The effect of CAMD and the performance improvement of actuator are confirmed through Moonie actuator and PZT suspension design.

Based on the planar restricted three body problem formulation, optimized trajectories for the Earth-Moon transfer are obtained. Mixed impulsive and continuous thrust are assumed to be used, respectively, during the Earth departure and Earth-Moon transfer/Moon capture phases. The continuous, dynamic trajectory optimization problem is reformulated in the form of discrete optimization problem by using the method of direct transcription and collocation, and then is solved using the nonlinear programming software. Representative results show that the shape of optimized trajectory near the Earth departure and the Moon capture phases is dependent upon the relative weight between the impulsive and the continuous thrust.

21C future learners are required to have creative thinking and problem-solving capability to address an issue wisely by integrating and applying knowledge and functions. The robot education that has recently been studied in primary and secondary schools was reported to be effective in satisfying the requirements. The robot education varies ranging from the existing after-school education to an integrated approach used for regular curriculums, and has actively been studied. Nevertheless, aside from positive study results, any studies on the environment where primary school students can learn robot and programming knowledge more friendly is still insufficient. Therefore, this study was intended to give students a robot class with the use of storytelling friendly to students in order for primary school students to learn robot and programming knowledge with ease. The study result showed that acquirement of programming knowledge was improved, and that the students had a positive learning attitude. In addition, it was found that the storytelling of the robot class helped provide the entire learning context and continuous learning motivation for the students.

The purpose of this study is to discover the occupational identity by examining the narrative of the life of a TVET teacher using the project method in programming fields. Teacher S, a participant in the study, started as a part-time lecturer at university and has been teaching programs for the past 20 years. As a result, six kinds of occupational identities of a programming teacher who teach by project method were found. S experienced pride and pride as a teacher through the project method. The project method served as a motive for continuous self-development to lead S to an expert. His experience as a positive teacher made him wish to maintain this life and live as a teacher as long as his health permits, even after retirement. This study has significance in exploring the structure of the occupational identity of a TVET teacher using the project method in programming fields, which have not been studied yet.

In the reverse engineering, surfaces are modeled for new products by interpolating the digitized data points obtained by measuring the existing shapes. However, many measuring or deviation errors are happened during the measuring process. If these errors are ignored, designers could get undesirable results. Therefore, it is important to handle such errors and fairing procedure with the esthetics criteria is needed during surface modeling process. This paper presents algorithms for the fairing of B-spline surfaces. The algorithms are based on automatic repositioning of control points for B-spline surfaces. New positions of the control points are determined by solving a non-linear programming of which the objective functions are derived variously using derived surfaces and constraints are established by distance measures between the original and the modified control points. Changes in surface shapes are analyzed by illustrations of their shapes and continuous plotting of gaussian and mean curvatures.

This paper presents a short-term scheduling algorithm for the operation of steelmaking processes. The scope of the problem covers refining of the hot iron transferred form a blast furnace, ladle treatment, continuous casting, hot-rolling, and coiling for the final products that should satisfy the given demand. The processing time at each unit depends on how much the batch amount is treated, and te dedicated intermediate storage with finite capacity between the units is considered. Resource constraints and initial amount of each state are incorporated into the presented scheduling model for the algorithm of on-line scheduling. We propose amixed integer linear programming (MILP) model with two objectives for the scheduling. The first is to maximize the total profit while atisfying the due date constraint for each product. And the second is to minimize the total processing time, makespan, while satisfying the demand for each product. Especially, we observe the effect of penalizing the intermediate storage and the inventory level of the final product on the scheduling results.

In recent through development of IOT owing to that mass stream data is being generated in variety of application complex event processing technology is being watched with keen interest as a technology to analyze this kind of real-time continuous data. However, the existing study related with complex event processing only comes to an end at simple event processing based on low-level event or comes to an end at service defect discovery with providing limited operator and so on. Accordingly, there would be limitation to provide useful analysis information. In this paper in consideration of complex event along with aspect-oriented programming an extended complex event model is provided, which is possible to provide more valuable and useful information. Specifically, we extend the model to support hierarchical event structures and let the model recognize point-cuts of aspect-oriented programming as events. We provide the event operators designed to specify the events on instances and handle temporal relations of the instances. It is presented that syntax and semantics of constructs in our event processing language including various and progressive event operators, complex event pattern, etc. In addition, an event context mechanism is proposed to analyze more delicate events. Finally, through application studies application possibility of this study would be shown and merits of this event model would be present through comparison with other event model.
