This paper is related to the enhancement of speech recognition rate using enhanced pronunciation dictionary. Modern large vocabulary, continuous speech recognition systems have pronunciation dictionaries. A pronunciation dictionary provides pronunciation information for each word in the vocabulary in phonemic units, which are modeled in detail by the acoustic models. But in most speech recognition system based on Hidden Markov Model, actual pronunciation variations are disregarded. Without the pronunciation variations in the speech recognition system, the phonetic transcriptions in the dictionary do not match the actual occurrences in the database. In this paper, we proposed the unvoiced rule of semivowel in allophone rules to pronunciation dictionary. Experimental results on speech recognition system give higher performance than existing pronunciation dictionaries.
This paper is a study on the korean broadcasting speech recognition. Here we present the methods for the large vocabuary continuous speech recognition. Our main concerns are the language modeling and the search algorithm. The used acoustic model is the uni-phone semi-continuous hidden markov model and the used linguistic model is the N-gram model. The search algorithm consist of three phases in order to utilize all available acoustic and linguistic information. First, we use the forward Viterbi beam search to find word end frames and to estimate related scores. Second, we use the backword Viterbi beam search to find word begin frames and to estimate related scores. Finally, we use A/sup */ search to combine the above two results with the N-grams language model and to get recognition results. Using these methods maximum 96.0% word recognition rate and 99.2% syllable recognition rate are achieved for the speaker-independent continuous speech recognition problem with about 12,000 vocabulary size.
In this paper, we implement the speech recognition system based on the continuous distribution HMM and Browser-embedded model using the Java. That is developed for the speech analysis, processing and recognition on the Web. Client sends server through the socket to the speech informations that extracting of end-point detection, MFCC, energy and delta coefficients using the Java Applet. The sewer consists of the HMM recognizer and trained DB which recognizes the speech and display the recognized text back to the client. Because of speech recognition system using the java is high error rate, the platform is independent of system on the network. But the meaning of implemented system is merged into multi-media parts and shows new information and communication service possibility in the future.
It has been known that there is strong relationship between human voices and the movements of the articulatory facial muscles. In this paper, we utilize this knowledge to implement an automatic speech recognition scheme which uses solely surface electromyogram (EMG) signals. The EMG signals were acquired from three articulatory facial muscles. Preliminary, 10 Korean digits were used as recognition variables. The various feature parameters including filter bank outputs, linear predictive coefficients and cepstrum coefficients were evaluated to find the appropriate parameters for EMG-based speech recognition. The sequence of the EMG signals for each word is modelled by a hidden Markov model (HMM) framework. A continuous word recognition approach was investigated in this work. Hence, the model for each word is obtained by concatenating the subword models and the embedded re-estimation techniques were employed in the training stage. The findings indicate that such a system may have a capacity to recognize speech signals with an accuracy of up to 90%, in case when mel-filter bank output was used as the feature parameters for recognition.

In this paper, we used Support Vector Machines(SVMs) as the learning method, one of Artificial Neural Network, to segregated from the continuous speech into phonemes, an initial, medial, and final sound, and then, performed continuous speech recognition from it. A Decision boundary of phoneme is determined by algorithm with maximum frequency in a short interval. Speech recognition process is performed by Continuous Hidden Markov Model(CHMM), and we compared it with another phoneme segregated from the eye-measurement. From the simulation results, we confirmed that the method, SVMs, we proposed is more effective in an initial sound than Gaussian Mixture Models(GMMs).
In this paper, we describe a cross-morpheme pronunciation variation model which is especially useful for constructing morpheme-based pronunciation lexicon to improve the performance of a Korean LVCSR. There are a lot of pronunciation variations occurring at morpheme boundaries in continuous speech. Since phonemic context together with morphological category and morpheme boundary information affect Korean pronunciation variations, we have distinguished phonological rules that can be applied to phonemes in within-morpheme and cross-morpheme. The results of 33K-morpheme Korean CSR experiments show that an absolute reduction of 1.45% in WER from the baseline performance of 18.42% WER was achieved by modeling proposed pronunciation variations with a possible multiple context-dependent pronunciation lexicon.
There has been many research efforts to overcome the problems of speech recognition in noisy conditions. Among the noise-robust speech recognition methods, model-based adaptation approaches have been shown quite effective. Particularly, the PMC (parallel model combination) method is very popular and has been shown to give considerably improved recognition results compared with the conventional methods. In this paper, we experimented with the VTS (vector Taylor series) algorithm which is also based on the model parameter transformation but has not attracted much interests of the researchers in this area. To verify the effectiveness of it, we employed the algorithm in the continuous density HMM (Hidden Markov Model). We compared the performance of the VTS algorithm with the PMC method and could see that the it gave better results than the PMC method.
In this paper, we propose a vocabulary coverage improvement method for embedded continuous speech recognition (CSR) using a part-of-speech (POS) tagged corpus. We investigate 152 POS tags defined in Lancaster-Oslo-Bergen (LOB) corpus and word-POS tag pairs. We derive a new vocabulary through word addition. Words paired with some POS tags have to be included in vocabularies with any size, but the vocabulary inclusion of words paired with other POS tags varies based on the target size of vocabulary. The 152 POS tags are categorized according to whether the word addition is dependent of the size of the vocabulary. Using expert knowledge, we classify POS tags first, and then apply different ways of word addition based on the POS tags paired with the words. The performance of the proposed method is measured in terms of coverage and is compared with those of vocabularies with the same size (5,000 words) derived from frequency lists. The coverage of the proposed method is measured as 95.18% for the test short message service (SMS) text corpus, while those of the conventional vocabularies cover only 93.19% and 91.82% of words appeared in the same SMS text corpus.
We propose a deep learning-based beamformer combined with spectral subtraction for continuous speech recognition operating in noisy environments. Conventional beamforming systems were mostly evaluated by using pre-segmented audio signals which were typically generated by mixing speech and noise continuously on a computer. However, since speech utterances are sparsely uttered along the time axis in real environments, conventional beamforming systems degrade in case when noise-only signals without speech are input. To alleviate this drawback, we combine online beamforming algorithm and spectral subtraction. We construct a Continuous Speech Enhancement (CSE) evaluation set to evaluate the online beamforming algorithm in noisy environments. The evaluation set is built by mixing sparsely-occurring speech utterances of the CHiME3 evaluation set and continuously-played CHiME3 background noise and background music of MUSDB. Using a Kaldi-based toolkit and Google web speech recognizer as a speech recognition back-end, we confirm that the proposed online beamforming algorithm with spectral subtraction shows better performance than the baseline online algorithm.
The material of database for speech recognition should include phonetic phenomena as much as possible. At the same time, such material should be phonetically compact with low redundancy[1, 2]. The phonetic phenomena in continuous speech is the key problem in speech recognition. This paper describes the processing of a set of sentences collected from the database of 1993 and 1994 "People's Daily"(Chinese newspaper) which consist of news, politics, economics, arts, sports etc.. In those sentences, both phonetic phenometla and sentence patterns are included. In continuous speech, phonemes always appear in the form of allophones which result in the co-articulary effects. The task of designing a speech database should be concerned with both intra-syllabic and inter-syllabic allophone structures. In our experiments, there are 404 syllables, 415 inter-syllabic diphones, 3050 merged inter-syllabic triphones and 2161 merged final-initial structures in read speech. Statistics on the database from "People's Daily" gives and evaluation to all of the possible phonetic structures. In this sentence set, we first consider the phonetic balances among syllables, inter-syllabic diphones, inter-syllabic triphones and semi-syllables with their junctures. The syllabic balances ensure the intra-syllabic phenomena such as phonemes, initial/final and consonant/vowel. the rest describes the inter-syllabic jucture. The 1560 sentences consist of 96% syllables without tones(the absent syllables are only used in spoken language), 100% inter-syllabic diphones, 67% inter-syllabic triphones(87% of which appears in Peoples' Daily). There are rougWy 17 kinds of sentence patterns which appear in our sentence set. By taking the transitions between syllables into account, the Chinese speech recognition systems have gotten significantly high recognition rates[3, 4]. The following figure shows the process of collecting sentences. [people's Daily Database] -> [segmentation of sentences] -> [segmentation of word group] -> [translate the text in to Pin Yin] -> [statistic phonetic phenomena & select useful paragraph] -> [modify the selected sentences by hand] -> [phonetic compact sentence set]
