The Next Wave in Display Innovation

  • The progress in flat panel displays over the last two decades has been astonishing. In just 20 years, the LCD-TV grew up from a 2-inch curiosity, to an industry that will sell about 120 million flat panel TV's this year, with viewing area up to 4000 times larger. That success is based on continuous innovation, especially in manufacturing processes. For the next decade to bring another doubling of the business, progress will need to continue in four major areas: Human factors, ecological impact, visual quality, and of course continued drive towards affordability. This talk will detail the technology advances that can allow this industry to meet those challenges. Human factors. Today, we adapt our lifestyle to our technology. People organize their offices, and their homes, around displays. We pass around mobile phones to share images, rather than experiencing them as a group. Billions of newspapers continue to be sold daily. Advances in flexible displays can lead to large portable displays. "New era projection" includes the handheld Pico Projectors that are already on the market, and will ultimately appear integrated in mobile phones the same way cameras do today. "Eco" impact. Today TV's are one of the top energy consumers in a U.S. home, and the fastest growing. Watching a large flat panel TV can cost twice as much as running a large refrigerator. With today's concern about energy consumption, regulations are starting to emerge worldwide to limit TV electrical use. Fortunately, good solutions exist in using light management films to eliminate bulbs, saving power without increasing cost. Going forward, LED backlights will drive another step downward. OLED displays might be the ultimate solution. Visual quality. The color of an LCD-TV is still often considered inferior to a far less expensive CRT. And almost all displays suffer from representing a three-dimensional world on a two dimensional surface. The technology to improve color is available today, and will likely move from premium sets into the mainstream as costs come down. 3D is now arriving in movie theaters worldwide, and that will drive up the demand for similar realistic images in home theaters. And the technology is emerging today for 3D representation to move beyond specialized applications into everyday use, on screens large and small. Affordability. The world takes cost-down miracles for granted in consumer electronics. Each of these other advances will be balanced with a drive for affordability, especially as the market grows in emerging countries. The other three challenges must be met without increasing cost. Putting this all together, the next few years will emphasize "eco friendly" designs, and enhanced images such as 3D. By 2013 we will start to see serious penetration by emissive technologies (OLED, high efficiency plasma, or other), with the "ultimate display" likely not in the market for a decade. Lots of opportunities for innovation remain ahead of us.

The study to flat-type generate of magnetic field with CW (Continue wave) frequency and AM (Amplitude modulation) frequency

  • In this study, We applied the magnetic field that has CW frequency and AM frequency to heating magnetic nano powder. For this experiment, We set up the devices flat-type magnetic field generator with CW frequency and AM frequency. We supplied the current to encircling coil by adjusting the power of generating of magnetic field device for AC voltage through Slidacs and using way of LC resonance circuit and SMPS(Switching Mode Power Supply). Above the encircling coil, We covered the circular flat insulator like glass. And we located the well plate containing the magnetic nano powder liquor above the circular flat insulator and exposed the magnetic field to this well plate. Using the flat-type magnetic field generator with CW and AM frequency and the magnetic field measurement sensor(Magnetic pick up coil or Hall sensor), We measured the strength of the magnetic field of circular flat insulator's surface in each position. The temperature of the magnetic nano powder in the well plate was quantitatively measured by the magnetic field strength through the Fluoroptic thermometer.

동물 세포 증식을 위한 저출력 광 소스의 특성 (Characteristics of Low-level Light Source for Animal Cell Proliferation)

  • This paper performed the basic study for developing the Photodynamic Therapy Equipment for medical treatment. We developed the equipment palpating cell proliferation using a high brightness LED. This equipment was fabricated using a micro-controller and a high brightness LED, and designed to enable us to control light irradiation time, intensity, frequency and so on. Especially, to control the light irradiation frequency, FPGA was used, and to control the change of output value, TLC5941 was used. Control stage is divided into 30 levels by program. Consequently, the current value could be controlled by the change of level in Continue Wave(CW) and Pulse Width Modulation(PWM), and the output of a high brightness LED could be controlled stage by stage. And then, each experiment was performed to irradiation group and non-irradiation group for both Rat bone marrow and Rat tissue cells. MTT assay method was chosen to verify the cell increase of two groups and the effect of irradiation on cell proliferation was examined by measuring 590 nm transmittance of ELISA reader. As a result, the cell increase of Rat bone marrow and tissue cells was verified in irradiation group as compared to non-irradiation group. The fact that specific wavelength irradiation has an effect on cell vitality and proliferation is known through this study.

항공주파수 보호를 위한 전자파방해(EMI)분포조사 및 분석 (Analysis & investigation of EMI dispersion for protection aviation frequency)

  • 본 논문에서는 전자파방해(EMI) 발생 위치 추적을 위한 관리프로그램을 개발하여 전자파방해(EMI) 발생시 현장을 신속하게 탐색할 수 있으며, 또한 전자파방해(EMI)로 인한 항공기 사고 관련 분석 자료와 전자파방해(EMI)발생 현장인 1000개의 RF 업체 위치자료와 전파환경 스펙트럼 분석 및 오디오 자료등을 데이터베이스화 하여 비교자료로 활용하므로써 신속한 원인분석과 정확한 위치 추적으로 전자파방해(EMI)를 일소할 수 있게 되었고, 또한 상시 모니터링 시스템을 구축하여 24시간 감시를 통하여 전자파방해(EMI) 발생을 예방하고 있다. 따라서 항공기 사고 방지를 위하여 양질의 항공전파를 제공할 수 있었다. 또한 항공기 탑승객을 상대로 정기적으로 항공주파수 보호 및 항공기 기내 전자 기기(PED) 사용으로 인한 야기 될수 있는 전자파방해(EMI)방지 안전문화 캠페인를 펼쳐 항공주파수를 안전하게 보호할 수 있었고, 또한 최악의 항공기 사고를 예방할 수 있는 기반을 마련 할 수 있었다.

현대패션에 표현된 개더 장식의 미적 특성 연구 - 2001년 이후 컬렉션을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Aesthetic Characteristics of Gather Decorations in the Contemporary Fashion - Focusing on the Collections after 2001 -)

  • The purpose of this study focusing on the gather decorations shown in the modern fashion was to review needlework techniques and design features of gather decorations and thereupon, analyze the aesthetic characteristics of gather decorations shown in designers' works to examine the gather decoration trend in today's fashion. First, the decorative features of gather decorations different from the conventional costumes are shirring, lace and trimming combined or shirring repeated. Second, in view of sensualism, the gather decorations seem to play a role of enhancing the exposure as a mode of expression, while the indirect exposure or beach is mixed with the materials to widen the range of gather decoration expressions. Third, in terms of history, the conventional decorative techniques are combined with new techniques and materials to create a fantastic and romantic mood different from the conventional costumes. Fourth, in view of rhythms, the wave line of the rim for gather decorations serves to express some vivid effects; on the human body, its monotonous plane repetition will turn into a new expression or a voluminous physical sense of motion. However, since expressions or meanings of the gather decorations are much diversified, they should not be regarded as simple decoration details. Our modern designers searching for new expression of creases use unique structural forms to explore the possibility of creative gather decorations. In all, since gather decorations seem to be significant as unique details conducive to a structural pragmatism and aesthetics, it is deemed necessary to continue to develop gather decorations.

100kHz PWM LED 광조사가 백서 골수세포에 미치는 영향 (The effect of 100KHz PWM LED light irradiation on RAT bone-marrow cells)

  • The study examined what effects 100kHz PWM LED light irradiation causes to bone marrow cells of SD-Rat when LED characterized cheap and safe is used onto the light therapy by replacing the low 1evel laser. We developed the equipment palpating cell proliferation using a high brightness LED. This equipment was fabricated using a micro-controller and a high brightness LED, and designed to enable us to control light irradiation time, intensity, frequency and so on. Especially, to control the light irradiation frequency, FPGA was used, and to control the change of output value, TLC5941 was used. Consequent1y, the current value could be controlled by the change of 1eve1 in Continue Wave(CW) and Pulse Width Modulation(PWM), and the output of a high brightness LED could be controlled stage by stage. 소셜 네트워크 서비스 이용 동기의 다차원적 구조 및 영향관계 (The Study on Relation and Structure of Social Network Service User's Motivation)

  • 본 연구는 소셜 네트워크 서비스내 구성원들이 소셜 네트워크 서비스를 이용하면서 느끼는 동기요인이 행동의도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하기 위한 것으로 실증분석을 통해 검증하고자 하였다. 특히 자기결정성 이론에 입각하여 소셜 네트워크 이용 동기요인을 구성원(follower) - 허브(hubs) 간 자기결정성 동기와 구성원(follower) - 구성원(follower) 간 자기결정성 동기롤 구분하였다. 또한 이러한 동기요인이 태도변수인 감정적인 애착에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였으며, 아울러 행동변수로 충성도와 정보공유의도에 어떠한 결과를 가져오는지 검증하고자 하였다. 실증분석 결과 본 연구에서 상정한 연구가설 모두가 통계적으로 유의한 영향관계가 있음이 밝혀졌다. 이러한 연구결과는 소셜 네트워크 서비스의 이용 동기-태도-행위의 인과관계 형성이 구성원들의 내면적인 심리적 욕구의 상태에 따라서도 작용될 수 있음을 보여주는 것으로 향후 이와 관련한 보다 정교한 연구의 기반이 될 것으로 예상된다.

  • 0.4~1.6kJ의 비교적 낮은 전기에너지를 갖는 수중 전기방전 시스템으로부터 발생하는 음파의 파형을 깊이별, 거리별로 관측하였다. 파형의 특성은 이미 보고된 에너지와 수심 의존도를 그대로 유지하고 있으나, 다른 두가지 특징적인 현상들이 관측되었다. 첫째는 내파에 의한 1차 bubble 펄스들의 피크 음압이 초기 충격파의 것보다 높게 관측되었는데, 이것은 10kJ 이상의 고에너지 방전시스템에서만 뚜렷하게 나타나던 현상이다. 둘째는 음향에너지 변환효율이 통상 5kJ에서 0.02, 1kJ에서 0.01로 저에너지대에서 그효율이 감소하는 경향을 보인다고 보고되었으나 1kJ의 부근에서는 0.01로 그 효율이 다시 일정하게 유지되고 있음이 확인되었다.

  • 광 의료 분야 중 저출력레이저 치료에 사용되는 레이저와 같은 특정 파장을 발생하고 레이저보다 안정적으로 사용이 가능한 고휘도 LED를 조사하여 광 의료 분야에 적용할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하였다. 광조사 시스템은 마이크로 컨트롤러, FPGA, TLC5941 및 고휘도 LED를 이용하여 설계 및 제작하였으며 광조사 시간, 강도, 주기 등 세포 증식에 영향을 칠 수 있는 다양한 변수들의 제어가 가능하도록 하였다. 또한 세포 배양에 사용되는 인큐베이터 내부의 조사가 용이하도록 탈부착이 가능한 모듈화 된 LED를 설계 제작하여 세포 증식에서 발생 가능한 생물학적 변수를 최소화하였다.

Influence of the Mars atmosphere model on aerodynamics of an entry capsule: Part II

  • This paper is the logical follow-up of four papers by the author on the subject "aerodynamics in Mars atmosphere". The aim of the papers was to evaluate the influence of two Mars atmosphere models (NASA Glenn and GRAM-2001) on aerodynamics of a capsule (Pathfinder) entering the Mars atmosphere and also to verify the feasibility of evaluating experimentally the ambient density and the ambient pressure by means of the methods by McLaughlin and Cassanto respectively, therefore to correct the values provided by the models. The study was carried out computationally by means of: i) a code integrating the equations of dynamics of an entry capsule for the computation of the trajectories, ii) two Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) codes for the solution of the 2-D, axial-symmetric and 3-D flow fields around the capsule in the altitude interval 50-100 km. The computations verified that the entry trajectories of Pathfinder from the two models, in terms of the Mach, Reynolds and Knudsen numbers, were very different. The aim of the present paper is to continue this study, considering other aerodynamic problems and then to provide a contribution to a long series of papers on the subject "aerodynamics in Mars atmosphere". More specifically, the present paper evaluated and quantified the effects from the two models of: i) chemical reactions on aerodynamic quantities in the shock layer, ii) surface temperature, therefore of the contribution of the re-emitted molecules, on local (pressure, skin friction, etc.) and on global (drag) quantities, iii) surface recombination reactions (catalyticity) on heat flux. The results verified that the models heavily influence the flow field (as per the shock wave structure) but, apart from the surface recombination reactions, the effects of the different conditions on aerodynamics of the capsule are negligible for both models and confirmed what already found in the previous paper that, because of the higher values of density from the NASA Glenn model, the effects on aerodynamics of a entry capsule are stronger than those computed by the GRAM-2001 model.
