Extracting Multiword Sentiment Expressions by Using a Domain-Specific Corpus and a Seed Lexicon

  • This paper presents a novel approach to automatically generate Korean multiword sentiment expressions by using a seed sentiment lexicon and a large-scale domain-specific corpus. A multiword sentiment expression consists of a seed sentiment word and its contextual words occurring adjacent to the seed word. The multiword sentiment expressions that are the focus of our study have a different polarity from that of the seed sentiment word. The automatically extracted multiword sentiment expressions show that 1) the contextual words should be defined as a part of a multiword sentiment expression in addition to their corresponding seed sentiment word, 2) the identified multiword sentiment expressions contain various indicators for polarity shift that have rarely been recognized before, and 3) the newly recognized shifters contribute to assigning a more accurate polarity value. The empirical result shows that the proposed approach achieves improved performance of the sentiment analysis system that uses an automatically generated lexicon.

  • Objectives: The aim of the present study is to elucidate the relationship of community capacity to health in a metropolitan area in Korea. To do so, a multi-level model to verify the contextual effects of community capacity is presented. Methods: The study materials are the "The 4th Seoul Citizens Health Indicators Surveys" on 404 dong in Seoul. The community capacity indicators were developed in two strata: individual-level indicators with community identity domain; and community-level indicators with participation in community organizations, number of non-profit organizations, degree of organizing of community-based organizations, and volunteer activities. Results: Higher unhealthy probability occurs among those with lower community capacity at the community level, lower individual income, and lower community satisfaction at the individual level. It contributed to explaining self-rated health status and showed that there were contextual effects of the community going beyond the compositional effects of the individual. Conclusions: In the process of building community capacity, a community autonomously finds pending issues and solves related problems, and in so doing, raises the social quality and establishes the conditions for health promotion. Thus, the significance of neighborhood needs to be discovered and created in a new way through the development of community capacity.

구성정보와 문맥정보를 이용한 전문용어의 전문성 측정 방법 (Determining the Specificity of Terms using Compositional and Contextual Information)

  • 어떤 용어가 전문적인 개념을 많이 내포하고 있을 때 전문성이 높다고 말한다. 본 논문에서는 용어의 내부 구성정보와 외부 문맥정보를 이용하여 정보이론에 기반한 방법으로 전문용어가 내포하는 전문성을 정량적으로 계산하는 방법을 제안한다. 용어의 전문성은 용어간 상하위어 관계 설정에서 중요한 필요조건으로 사용될 수 있다. 제안한 방법은 전문용어의 내부 구성정보를 이용하는 방법, 문맥정보를 이용하는 방법 그리고 두 정보를 모두 이용하는 방법으로 나눈다. 구성정보를 이용하는 방법에서는 전문용어를 구성하는 단어의 빈도수, 가중치, 바이그램, 내부 수식구조 둥을 이용하고, 문맥정보를 이용하는 방법에서는 전문용어를 수식하는 단어들의 분포를 이용한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방법은 분야에 독립적으로 적용될 수 있고, 전문용어 생성 절차에 대한 특정을 잘 반영할 수 있는 장점이 있다. MeSH 트리에 포함된 질병 이름의 전문성 값을 계산한 뒤 상위어의 전문성 값과 비교한 결과 82.0%의 정확률을 보였다.

The Effect of Prosodic Position and Word Type on the Production of Korean Plosives

  • This paper investigated how prosodic position and word type affect the phonetic structure of Korean coronal stops. Initial segments of prosodic domains were known to be more strongly articulated and longer relative to prosodic domain-medial segments. However, there are few studies examining whether the properties of prosodic domain-initial segments are affected by the information content of words (real vs. nonsense words). In addition, since the scope of domain-initial effect was known to be local to the initial consonant and the effects on the following vowel have been found to be limited, it is thus worth examining whether the prosodic domain-initial effect extends into the vowel after the initial consonant in a systematic way across different prosodic domains. The acoustic properties of Korean coronal stops (lenis /t/, aspirated /$t^h$/, and tense /t'/) were compared across Intonational Phrase, Phonological Phrase and Word-initial positions both in real and nonsense words. The durational intervals such as VOT and CV duration were cumulatively lengthened for /t/ and /$t^h$/ in the higher prosodic domain-initial positions. However, tense stop /t'/ did not show any variation as a function of prosodic position and word type. The domain-initial lenis stop showed significantly longer duration in nonsense words than in real words. But the prosodic domain-initial effect was not found in the properties of F0 and [H1-H2] of the vowel after initial stops. The present study provided evidence that speakers tend to enhance speech clarity when there is less contextual information as in prosodic domain-initial position and in nonsense words.

영어 지각동사의 인지적 연구 (A Cognitive Analysis on the Polysemous Perception Verbs)

  • This paper deals with the polysemous phenomenon of perception verbs in terms of metaphor and metonymy and suggest a model of cognitive semantic structure for them. English perception verbs are often used for representing a mental, cognitive activity as well as representing a physical, perceptive activity. This paper looks for a basis for the polysemous use in the creative system of metaphor and metonymy, especially in the meaning extension function of mind-as-body metaphor. English perception verbs show a good example of a metaphor of domain transfer from physical domain to mental or cognitive domain. This paper suggests the conceptual chain and the semantic structure for the perception verb to show the possibility of polysemy and contextual modulation.

상태레벨 공유를 이용한 MLLR 적응화의 회귀클래스 생성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Regression Class Generation of MLLR Adaptation Using State Level Sharing)

  • 본 논문에서는 HM-Net (Hidden Markov Network)을 다양한 태스크에의 적용과 화자의 특성을 효과적으로 나타내기 위해 HM-Net 음성인식 시스템에 MLLR (Maximum Likelihood Linear Regression) 적응방법을 도입하였으며, HM-Net 학습 알고리즘을 개량하여 회귀클래스 생성방법을 제안한다. 제안방법은 PDT-SSS (Phonetic Decision Tree-based Successive State Splitting)알고리즘의 문맥방향 상태분할에 의한 상태레벨 공유를 이용한 방법이다. 즉, 문맥방향의 각 상태에 적응화자 음성데이터에 포함된 문맥정보를 분할하여 적응화될 음소환경을 결정하는 것이다. 따라서 제안방법은 새로운 화자로부터 문맥정보와 적응화 데이터의 발성 양에 의존하여 결정된 많은 적응 파라미터들을 (평균, 분산) 자유롭게 제어할 수 있게 된다. 제안방법의 유효성을 확인하기 위해 국어공학센터 (KLE) 452 데이터와 항공편 예약관련 (YNU200) 연속음성을 대상으로 인식실험을 수행한 결과, 음소인식, 단어인식, 연속음성인식에 대해서, 평균 34∼37%, 평균 9%, 평균 20%의 성능 향상을 각각 보였다. 또한 적응화 데이터의 양에 따른 인식성능 비교에서 제안방법을 적용한 인식 시스템이 적응 데이터의 양이 적은 경우에도 향상된 인식률을 보여 MLLR 적응방법의 특성을 만족하였다. 따라서 MLLR 적응방법을 도입한 HM-Net 음성인식 시스템에 제안한 회귀클래스 생성방법이 유효함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Context-Aware Active Services in Ubiquitous Computing Environments

  • With the advent of ubiquitous computing environments, it has become increasingly important for applications to take full advantage of contextual information, such as the user's location, to offer greater services to the user without any explicit requests. In this paper, we propose context-aware active services based on context-aware middleware for URC systems (CAMUS). The CAMUS is a middleware that provides context-aware applications with a development and execution methodology. Accordingly, the applications based on CAMUS respond in a timely fashion to contextual information. This paper presents the system architecture of CAMUS and illustrates the content recommendation and control service agents with the properties, operations, and tasks for context-aware active services. To evaluate CAMUS, we apply the proposed active services to a TV application domain. We implement and experiment with a TV content recommendation service agent, a control service agent, and TV tasks based on CAMUS. The implemented content recommendation service agent divides the user's preferences into common and specific models to apply other recommendations and applications easily, including the TV content recommendations.

모바일폰 사용 영역과 상황 기반의 컨텍스트 정의 및 사용 행위의 구조 분석을 통한 테스크 모델 제안 (Understanding the Pattern of Mobile-phone Tasks on the 'Situational Context' : Focused on the ESR(Extend, Synchronize, Replace) Model)

  • 본 논문은 모바일폰의 사용성 연구에 있어서 모바일폰의 사용 특성을 충분히 반영할 수 있도록 추후 연구를 돕기 위한 목적으로 진행되었다. 모바일폰의 사용 특성은 무엇보다 컨텍스의 영향에 매우 민감하다는 것과, 1인 1디바이스로서 개인적인 라이프 패턴을 많은 부분 수용한다는 것이다. 이러한 전제로부터 모바일폰이 사용되는 컨텍스트를 정의하였다. 특별히 컨텍스트의 정의에 있어서 상황적 컨텍스트(situational context)라는 정의를 도입하였으며, 모바일폰으로 할 수 있는 다양한 task 중 특별히 situational context의 영향을 직접적으로 받는 task를 contextual task로 이름하였다. 연구 결과물로써 contextual task의 모델을 제작하였다. 이는 디자인 종사자들과 타 업계의 종사자들이 모두 사용자의 실제적 행태를 이해할 수 있도록 하여 동일한 컨셉을 가지고 사용자 중심의 디자인을 진행할 수 있도록 한다. 또한, 이러한 사용자 사용 행태에 대한 통일한 컨셉은 디자인을 위한 서로의 의사전당에도 효과적일 젓이다. 수집된 사용자 task 들은 3가지 모델로 그 패턴을 정의할 수 있다. 사용자의 공간 확장과 관련되어 다양한 패턴을 구조화한 Extend Model, 기능의 컨버전스로 인해서 각 기능의 충돌을 최소화하여 사용성을 높일 수 있는 기회를 제공하기 위해 이와 관련된 task 들의 패턴을 구조화한 Synchronize Model, 마지막으로 사용자의 라이프 패턴을 반영하여 기존의 object를 대체하는 결과를 가져오는 task들의 패턴을 구조화한 Replace Model 로 Contextual Task를 정의하였다. 마지막으로 각 모델의 구체적 용도를 보이기 위해 Context 를 반영한 Interview 를 시행할 수 있는 질문지 제작을 진행하였다.

Design and Implementation of a Framework for Context-Aware Preference Queries

  • In this paper we present a framework for a novel kind of context-aware preference query composition whereby queries for the Preference SQL system are created. We choose a commercial e-business platform for outdoor activities as a use case and develop a context model for this domain within our framework. The suggested model considers explicit user input, domain-specific knowledge, contextual knowledge and location-based sensor data in a comprehensive approach. Aside from the theoretical background of preferences, the optimization of preference queries and our novel generator based model we give special attention to the aspects of the implementation and the practical experiences. We provide a sketch of the implementation and summarize our user studies which have been done in a joint project with an industrial partner.

A Knowledge-based Model for Semantic Oriented Contextual Advertising

  • Proper and precise embedding of commercial ads within Webpages requires Ad-hoc analysis and understanding of their content. By the successful implementation of this step, both publishers and advertisers gain mutual benefits through increasing their revenues on the one hand, and improving user experience on the other. In this research work, we propose a novel multi-level context-based ads serving approach through which ads will be served at generic publisher websites based on their contextual relevance. In the proposed approach, knowledge encoded in domain-specific and generic semantic repositories is exploited in order to analyze and segment Webpages into sets of contextually-relevant segments. Semantically-enhanced indexes are also constructed to index ads based on their textual descriptions provided by advertisers. A modified cosine similarity matching algorithm is employed to embed each ad from the Ads repository into one or more contextually-relevant segments. In order to validate our proposal, we have implemented a prototype of an ad serving system with two datasets that consist of (11429 ads and 93 documents) and (11000 documents and 15 ads), respectively. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques, we experimentally tested the proposed method and compared the produced results against five baseline metrics that can be used in the context of ad serving systems. In addition, we compared the results produced by our system with other state-of-the-art models. Findings demonstrate that the accuracy of conventional ad matching techniques has improved by exploiting the proposed semantically-enhanced context-based ad serving model.
