  • With the development of multimedia and network technology, the production of multimedia contents is rapidly increasing. Meanwhile, the technology to search and use the contents is still insufficient. There are standards for multimedia contents to address the problem, but they cannot fully support diverse multimedia data types or ensure their interoperability. In this paper, an ontology-based content search system is proposed to ensure the interoperability of multimedia contents. The ontology is configured by presenting the rules for it using the schema structure of the multimedia description scheme (MDS) of MPEG-7. Based on this ontology, This paper extend multimedia relationship based on ontology, thus established the semantic retrieval system.

  • Digital contents services are one of the topics that have been intensively studied in the media industry, where various semantic and ontology techniques are applied. However, query execution for ontology data is still inefficient, lack of sufficient extensible definitions for node relationships, and there is no specific semantic method fit for media data representation. In order to make the machine understand digital contents (DCs) data well, we analyze DCs data, including static data and dynamic data, and use ontology to specify and classify objects and the events of the particular objects. Then the formal representation method is proposed which not only redefines DCs data based on the technology of OWL/RDF, but is also combined with media segmentation methods. At the same time, to speed up the access mechanism of DCs data stored under the persistent database, an ontology-based DCs query solution is proposed, which uses the specified distance vector associated to a surveillance of semantic label (annotation) to detect and track a moving or static object.

  • In recent Information Environment, various Multimedia contents are getting noticed. But, since these contents have various formats of representation and very wide range of information, it was difficult to retrieve contents that user wanted and to utilize it. To solve these problems, many studies presented draft standards for adding metadata to contents, and then, semantic search for contents had become available. Unfortunately, as the number of metadata standards and contents increased, the lack of interoperability between contents was begun and users are faced with difficulty of search contents again. To improve these problems, this paper supports interoperability between metadata standards and expands the semantic relationship between elements and proposes an ontology which is named TOFIC(The Ontology For Imagery Contents) for enhanced semantic search. In TOFIC, the semantic relationships between MPEG-7 and TV-Anytime are classified, and extended new semantics are defined. As a result, semantic search for multimedia contents is enhanced and it is possible to retrieve most of the multimedia contents that exist on the current information environment consistently. In addition, it supports enhanced content-based search for multimedia contents.

  • Ontology is known to be one of the most important technologies in achieving semantic web. It is critical as it represents the knowledge in a machine readable state. World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has been contributing to the development of ontology for the last several years. However, the recommendation of W3C left out HTML despite the massive amount of information it contains. Also, it is difficult and time consuming to keep up with all the technologies especially in the case of constructing ontology. Thus, we propose a module and methods that reuse HTML documents, extract necessary information from HTML tags and mapping it to OWL 2. We will be combining two kinds of approaches which will be the structural refinement for making an ontology skeleton and linguistic approach for adding detailed information onto the skeleton.

  • For semantic retrieval in semantic web environment, it is an important factor to manage and manipulate distributed resources. Ontology is essential for efficient search in distributed resources, but it is almost impossible to construct an unified ontology for all distributed resources in the web. In this paper, we assumed that most information in the web environment exist in the form of RDBMS, and propose a matching method between domain ontology and the existing RDBMS tables for semantic retrieval. Most previous studies about matching between RDBMS tables and domain ontology have extracted a local ontology from RDBMS tables at first, and conducted the matching between the local ontology and domain ontology. However in the processing of extracting a local ontology, some problems such as losing domain information can be occurred since its correlation with domain ontology has not been considered at all. In this paper, we propose a methods to prevent the loss of domain information through the similarity measure between instances of RDBMS tables and instances of ontology. And using the relational information between RDBMS tables and the relational information between classes in domain ontology, more efficient instance-based matching becomes possible.

  • The Ontology is the concept of human beings in any sense to classify things as departure from the classification based on the meaning at the prensent situation and concepts as the object of the Ontology. also, the technology is shared the conceptualization in a formal ontology as a meaning to give a clear description to the conceptual engineering in the ontology. Specialized multimedia broadcasting of TV-Anytime standard and multimedia representation of the overall standard of the MPEG-7 based on the concept of broadcasting multimedia presentations that can be used to develop an ontology who is required. In this paper, in TV-Anytime and MPEG-7 multimedia standard for broadcasting multimedia contents based on standards developed for the ontology, an ontology language for expressing OWL (Web Ontology Language) and RDF (Resource Description Framework) and the broadcast contents using To represent metadata of the system who has been developed.

  • Korean cyber universities now provide higher education service to learners but the courses suffer major limitations of low quality and inefficient format of their learning contents. Because of the absence of any standard authoring strategy for learning contents, tutors develop their own courseware with various formats and content structures. In addition, the lack of association between content learners causes them difficulties in finding and reusing related contents. In this paper, we propose an authoring strategy foradvanced learning contents based on SCORM and ontology. Our strategy improvesthe reusability and associativity of learning contents. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed authoring strategy through developing learning contents such as understanding of digital contents.

  • To provide more efficient and exact search result, internet systems will rely more and more on semantic web. Ontology is one of the important methods for implementation of semantic web. Ontology is used to implement an explicit formal vocabularies to share. However, important problems rise when dealing with ontology. Ontologies are typically subject to change because they are living. In order to handle ontology data change situation, a version handling system is needed to keep track of changes. For example, the queries subject to the previous ontology may become inconsistent and must be updated according to the newest version of ontology. Although many research was done in this area, there are still many problems to overcome. In this paper, we propose class and property transition graph for query transformation. The graph is created when ontology data is changed and applied to query transformation.

  • In this paper, we propose a semi-automatic modeling approach of ontology to annotate VOD to realize the IPTV's intelligent searching. The ontology is made by combining partial tree that extracts hypernym, hyponym, and synonym of keywords related to a service domain from WordNet. Further, we add to the partial tree new keywords that are undefined in WordNet, such as foreign words and words written in Chinese characters. The ontology consists of two parts: generic hierarchy and specific hierarchy. The former is the semantic model of vocabularies such as keywords and contents of keywords. They are defined as classes including property restrictions in the ontology. The latter is generated using the reasoning technique by inferring contents of keywords based on the generic hierarchy. An annotation generates metadata (i.e., contents and genre) of VOD based on the specific hierarchy. The generic hierarchy can be applied to other domains, and the specific hierarchy helps modeling the ontology to fit the service domain. This approach is proved as good to generate metadata independent of any specific domain. As a result, the proposed method produced around 82% precision with 2,400 VOD annotation test data.
