A Study on Optimized Mapping Environment for Real-time Spatial Mapping of HoloLens

  • Recently, the development of the head mounted display (HMD) device has attracted a great deal of attention to the actual contents. Especially, Augmented Reality (AR), which is a mixture of actual information and virtual world information, is focused on. AR HMD is able to interact by arranging virtual objects in real space through spatial recognition using depth camera. In order to naturally mix virtual space with real space, it is necessary to develop a technology for realizing spatial mapping information with high accuracy. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the optimal configuration of augmented reality application program by realizing accurate spatial mapping information when mapping a real space and an object placement environment using HoloLens. To do this, we changed the spatial mapping information in real space to three levels, which are the number of meshes used in cubic meters to scan step by step. After that, it was compared with the 3D model obtained by changing the actual space and mesh number. Experimental result shows that the higher the number of meshes used in cubic meters, the higher the accuracy between real space and spatial mapping. This paper is expected to be applied to augmented reality application programs that require scanning of highly mapped spatial mapping information.

  • The projection mapping technique is used in various ways in almost every genre of performance arts at the moment. Thus, artist from various areas are participated in contents productions using it. The diversification of projection mapping contents gave producers a clue to try fresher visual effects and it was connected to the change of point of time using the camera working which was never used in old projection mapping contents productions. It is analyzed that the use of camera workings in the projection mapping image maximizes the visual Tactility and helps audiences concentrate on the contents. This study performed the theoretical research on the 'camera working' which is a new visual expression of the projection mapping and analyzed cases of projection mapping works applying them. It is to reconstruct the camera working which has been applied only by images of movies and suggest a guideline to create the optimized visual effect.

  • Projection mapping is one of the convergence contents combined with digital technology. After entering the Chinese market, with its fantastic shock of visual impact, it becomes China's most shocking, most popular, and most commercial value of marketing means, to be widely used in advertising, construction, tourism and other fields. But in China, the lack of projection mapping professionals and professional will affect the development of the entire industry. The study analysed the case of projection mapping in China, and discovered the future direction development of projection mapping. Projection mapping will keep going based on local cultural environment, and combined with other intelligent technologies, and spreading to daily life, also expanding the using area, creating the manifestation pattern then contributing greatly to the entertainment content industry.

  • High dynamic range (HDR) technology has been drawing attention in the field of imaging and consumer entertainment. As tools for capturing and creating HDR contents, encoding, and transmission evolve to support HDR formats, various display capabilities are being developed and increased. Hence, there is need for remapping native HDR imagery for display on lower quality legacy standard dynamic range (SDR) displays. This operation is referred to as tone mapping. In this paper, we present a sectional tone mapping method by Lenzen, and expand upon a tone mapping approach to improve temporal stability while maintaining picture quality. Compared to the existing block-based sectional tone mapping, our method uses the edge awareness-based tone mapping. We estimate the performance of the objective metric on temporal flickering. The experimental result shows that the algorithm maintains a smoother relationship between the output luminance values, and this reveals success in reducing halos and improving temporal stability with adopted edge aware filtering.

  • Achieving realistic visual quality while maintaining optimal real-time rendering performance is a major challenge in evolving computer graphics and interactive 3D applications. Normal mapping, as a core technology in 3D, has matured through continuous optimization and iteration. Hybrid normal mapping as a new mapping model has also made significant progress and has been applied in the 3D asset production pipeline. This study comprehensively explores the hybrid normal techniques, analyzing Linear Blending, Overlay Blending, Whiteout Blending, UDN Blending, and Reoriented Normal Mapping, and focuses on how the various hybrid normal techniques can be used to achieve rendering performance and visual fidelity. performance and visual fidelity. Under the consideration of computational efficiency, visual coherence, and adaptability in different 3D production scenes, we design comparative experiments to explore the optimal solutions of the hybrid normal techniques by analyzing and researching the code, the performance of different hybrid normal mapping in the engine, and analyzing and comparing the data. The purpose of the research and summary of the hybrid normal technology is to find out the most suitable choice for the mainstream workflow based on the objective reality. Provide an understanding of the hybrid normal mapping technique, so that practitioners can choose how to apply different hybrid normal techniques to the corresponding projects.   • This paper studies the current development of personal media and the development of project mapping technology. The speed of social life is speeding up, and information dissemination tends to be fragmented. With the rapid development of mobile technology in recent years, personal media has gradually attracted the attention of people. And now image production and video editing become more and more simple in mobile devices, which provide a basis for the active personal media. The emergence of video content with high creative which is producing by projection mapping. And also providing an attractive new content for the general public. With the popularity of home projector, and the development of mobile terminal projection mapping production application. In the future, it will be possible to use projection mapping to produce personal media contents on the basis of mobile media platform.

  • In these days, small devices like smartphones, TV, and projectors are popular, and they are being developed rapidly. The projector is being used in cinema and exhibition because it makes a big screen. This feature makes new expression named projection-mapping in art world. Projection-mapping is being utilized extensively in stages of performances, and it use variety of shape's screens. But projection-mapping has limitation in space. So in this paper, we propose new performance system for projection-mapping and it make possible to overcome many difficulties. Also, we discuss the result of using the system in actual performance. We hope to develop the utilization of projection-mapping in performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a volumetric computational reconstruction method by use of smart pixel mapping technique in the computational integral imaging in order to overcome the problem of resolution degradation. The experimental results are presented to show the usefulness of our proposed technique.

An Empirical Study on Evaluation Criteria of Projection Mapping Videos in Terms of Public Design (공공디자인에 있어 프로젝션 매핑영상의 평가요소에 관한 실증적 연구)

  • The necessity of an empirical study on how projection mapping videos are evaluated from consumers' point of view has arisen, as they can lead to visual pollution if factors including spatial characteristics around the structure and details of the contents are not taken into consideration. This study aims to evaluate projection mapping videos and elucidate the question on whether evaluation criteria positively influence the satisfaction level or not. Above all, five evaluation criteria including artistry, creativity, identity, immersion and usefulness were deducted and a hypothesis from preceding research "each evaluation criteria will positively(+) influence the satisfaction level of projection mapping video" has been established. In order to test the hypothesis, big domestic department stores which screened projection mapping videos were selected and a verification experiment has been conducted with ordinary citizens as subjects. In the result of the experiment, among the five evaluation criteria, artistry, creativity, and usefulness were chosen, while identity and immersion were dismissed. The result verifies that if useful information is provided in forms of interesting contents produced with distinctive ideas and creative methods, it will satisfy the consumers as attractive public design.
