  • Since the late 1990s dualistic spatial structure has been configurated in Icheon ceramic industrial space due to the articulation of transmitted ceramics space rooted from imitating the Goryeo and Joseon ceramics and contemporary ceramics space based on academic ceramic arts. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to identify the formation of dualistic space in Icheon by investigating the development paths of ceramic industry in historical perspectives and analyzing inter- and extra-firm relations in Icheon. The main results of this research are as follows. Firstly, the development path of transmitted ceramics has declined gradually, while the development path of contemporary ceramics has been embedded in Icheon region. Secondly, the research pointed out that networks of transmitted ceramics and contemporary ceramics are different in the perspectives of inter-firm and extra-firm relations. Thirdly, the government has played a critical role as a financial and administrative supporter and as a network broker between university and Icheon ceramic firms(mainly with transmitted ceramics) for technological cooperation and collaborative R&D.

  • The Possibility of contemporary ceramics creation through the convergence of materials In modern society, the creation of new values through convergence is emerging as a new trend. Modern potters are also trying to expand a new concept of art by combining various materials with other media. In craft, materials are essential and the most fundamental elements of expression. Therefore, from the viewpoints of various fusions, the significance of the fusion between materials will be explored. Also, focusing on paperclay, which is the most likely to be transformed material, we explore creative possibilities in the process of producing materials and works. Chapter 2 presents the concept and significance of fusion and material properties, and introduce the trend of fusion used in contemporary ceramics as material expression. In Chapters 3 and 4, characteristics and possibilities are examined through paper clay production and presentation based on the structure of the previous analysis. As a result, it is intended to present the direction that modern ceramics should pursue through a fusion phenomenon such as bonding between materials in the future and to explore potential possibilities for development.

  • This thesis studies and analyzes the performative expression and meaning of ceramic performance art in the diversifying contemporary ceramic art. Therefore, after analyzing the ceramic performance works of Miquel Barcelό, Josef Nadj, Kang-hyo Lee, Teri Frame, and J. J. McCracken, I tried to find out the performativity and effectiveness of the performance. As a result of the study, the ceramic performance shows the expandability beyond the expression form and production process shown in general ceramic artworks through physical actions using clay. In addition, the real-time performance of the actor is a process embodiment of creating an event, and the open structure in which the artist and the audience relate to each other enables interpretation and understanding in a different way than before. Convergence attempts with other media imply borderlessness in contemporary ceramics and show the possibility of expanding into new field. This is expected to have a positive impact that breaks the ideological frame of the ceramic arts field, which has strong craft characteristics.

  • Taking a look at art history around the world reveals the presence of ceramics in a wide range of areas. There have been many changes and developments over the years, but especially notable is the fact that in the course of history, the craft of ceramics has become an aesthetic art form rather than serving the original purpose of providing daily object of necessity. The Art Nouveau movement had peat influence in the development of ceramics before and after 19$^{th}$ century, and its inherent style continues to be copied and produced to modem day. The Art Nouveau style can today be seen particularly in contemporary tableware designs reflecting its graceful motifs that are now richly presenting themselves on table settings. This study looks at the possibilites of Art Nouveau in ceramics, namely by combining both traditional formativ qualities and contemporary visual inspirations to seek new expressions of beauty. In order to document records and analyze formative developments of Art Nouveau, representative pieces have been chronologically presented to cover the period from 1895 to the present.

  • Modern ceramics art has various expression techniques. Among them, the digitization of modern society has led to the development of the transfer printing technique, and the technique of transfer printing has been utilized as medium of expression of modern ceramics. However, the transfer printing technique is merely uniform and does not give enough information to utilize the artistic expression of the craftsmen using the technique of decal rather than actively utilizing it in the field for mass production. Therefore. In this paper, we will examine the works of contemporary pottery artists who understand the meaning of the transfer printing technique and express the artist 's personality and artistry with transfer printing technique, so that the transfer printing technique can enhance the aesthetic and artistic effect of ceramic art as the expression medium of modern ceramics. We want to lay the foundations for a higher value-added industry.

  • We must identify the forms of dress devised throughout ages, when we wtudy, interpret and analyze the numerous resource material of costume. The study which depends on reference to actual artifacts is necessarily limited. Whereas items of contemporary dress are readily available, much from earlier eras has been destroyed or has deteriorated through time. Such as cottons, linens, silks, wools, leathers and furs are perishable organic materials. Few garments dated earlier than seventeenth century has survived except armor, jewelry. We have many sources of the information are available to study on costume of earlier eras. These sources are wall paintings, sculptures, painting, monumental brasses, manuscript illustration ceramics, coins, medals, mosaics, archives, literature. Wall painting and frescoes provided an useful source for costume study. Many wall paintings and frescoes were destroyed, were changed in color. It si advisable to interpret the dress detail, form color carefully. Sculpture would be useful to see the back and side views of dress. One of the most important points which should be made abut the use of sculpture as a source for costume study in early periods is that the sculptor's style will often change the character of a costume. As the painting si two-dimensional evidence for a three-dimensional costume, paintings must be accurately studied. What we must do, as far as we can, is to look at all visual representations in the light of other contemporary evidence in order to interpret the information correctly.

  • Archaeological research on the Xiongnu began in the late 19th century by a Russian archaeologist Talko-Grinchevich. The Xiongnu culture has been reported in the northern steppe of China and eastern part of Eurasian steppe. Mainly, Xiongnu sites, dated from the late 2nd century B.C. to the 1st century A.D., are reported on the east side of Baikal Lake(Zabaikal), east Mongolia, and the Inner Mongolia of China. Based on the historical records and the archaeological remains, the North Xiongnu culture is defined to be the remains of Zabaikal, and the South Xiongnu culture the archaeological remains of Nothern China. The expelled North Xiongnu, while fleeing to the western part of Eurasia, left traces of their own archaeological remains in the Southern Kazakhstan, Xinjiang of China, Altai, and finally appeared in the Europe as Huns. The most characteristic archaeological materials of the Xiongnu are bronze plaques and ceramics made by handicraft, and highly developed iron weapons. After the power of the Xiongnu was dissolved in 1st c. A.D., previously subordinated peoples such as Xianbi, Wuhuan, Wusun rised in the Eurasia steppes and opened medieval age in Eurasia. The "northern type" materials found in Korea are dated to the period of Xiongnu or slightly later, we need to pay more attention to the contemporary Xiongnu. research.
