The Empire of Japan’s Foreign Policy

  • The present research applies the Theory of Harmony through Holistic Engagement to the foreign policy of Japan. As the third largest economy in the world and one of the most highly developed countries in the world, Japan is a major international power. Most analysts interpret Japan’s foreign policy through the lenses of realist, exceptionalist, or liberal institutionalist approaches. All the previously mentioned approaches tend to be based on etic studies conducted from the point of view of outsiders. The present interpretation of Japanese foreign policy applies an emic model based on primary sources from the Greater East Asian region and concludes that the Model of Harmony through Holistic Engagement shows considerable explanatory traction in interpreting the direction and development of Japanese foreign policy, in particular in the last two to three decades.

  • The Incoterms, short for "International Commercial Terms," have been widely used as International Rules for the Interpretation of Trade Terms since 1936. The Incoterms have been revised six times in order to adapt them to contemporary commercial practice. The current version is Incoterms 2000. The revised version of Incoterms 2000 will be published in the fourth quarter of 2010 and will be effective from January 1st 2010. The first and second draft of Incoterms 2010 have been carried out by a small global Drafting Group, representing seven nationalities and various areas of substantive expertise. In this paper, I reviewed the main contents in the 2nd Draft of Incoterms 2010. This paper contributes to help the parties concerned to understand the new changes from Incoterms 2000 and to choose the appropriate trade term.

  • The reason for exploring dreams is to understand the of patient's conflicts and unconscious motivation. Even if the therapeutic value of dreams is considerably faded these days, I can not deny that dreams are still very useful. From the beginning of human history, dreams have been an appealing subject for many people. In the past, dreams chiefly had the value of prophetic meaning, and in our tradition attention was paid to dreams in terms of good and bad dichotomy. Freud's discovery of the Unconscious and technical development of its exploration is reinforced by dream interpretation. In contemporary terms, although dreams are not the royal road to the Unconscious, they surely present a short-cut. I suggest that dreams as a treasure island of the Unconscious have a useful therapeutic value, and that stressing the importance of dreams is by no means anachronistic. I believe that practical sessions without dreams are like a river without bridges.

  • The main focus of this paper is to apply contemporary aesthetics and psychological study with interior design analysis. Up to now, the methodology of interior design analysis has been developed toward a more qualitative way. By the virtue of the perception , congnition , and information theory, which oriented toward a quantitative approach, it became possible to investigate interior space analysis to a more objective and scientific ways. The purpose of this study is to investigate Modern and Post-Modern interior - architectural style with quantitative analytical method. The subjective interior critique studied by intuitive research will be transferred to scientific way by using quantitative formula . Savoye Villa and Guardiola House were selected as study model, because each architectural works ware regarded as masterpieces of Modern and Post-Modern style. These two oppositional style model will be distinguished with mathematical quantity by calculating Iave , Hmax, and Redundancy formula.

A Study on the Construction and Deconstruction of the 'Grid' : The Historical Context and Interpretation ('그리드'(Grid)의 형성과 해체 -서양회화의 사적맥락과 그 해석을 중심으로 -)

  • The Grid, a lattice structure adapted in paintings, is one of thesimplest plastic structures based on the intersection of horizontal and perpendicular lines. Though mankind has, from the pre-history to the present day, put it to good use in everyday life as a traditional practice or a magical, esoteric, religious emblem in the case of the teciform of primitve art, it was in the paintings of Piet Mondrian that the Grid showed its modern, artistic transformation. As we suggest in the title, before I state the Grid as a plastic construction of modern painting, this dissertation inquires the Grid structure that extends over paintings through the ages as a painterly conept, especially focused on their formation and deconstruction. To begin with, my dissertation investigates, as a historical background, a general idea of the geometrical structure and phases of its transition in art, prior to dealing with the Grids as plastic strures in modern painting. the core of my study on formal Grids is permeated through the third chapter. The first chapter concentrates on, firstly, difining the notion of the Grid and geometrical structure, secondly, searching for a historical backgrounb with whict the so- called modern Grid-paintings come in, inquiring into the formation of the illusion-Grid as aresult of discovering the linear perpective and the situation of the conflict and reconciliaton between reality and illusion. Based on these considerations, the second cecond chapter will examine the various sitations of formation and adaptation of the paintery Grids in the Literalism-Grid, as we have already seen in the chapter one. And the cardinal third chapter devotes itself to the process of the formation of the so-called Object-Grid and Literal-Grid in the Literalism or Minimalism as its logical extension of the Painterly Grid. With it we can get to an interpretation and understanding of the meaning and qualites of Grid dwelt in Modernism thst transformed the structure of Painterly Grid originally as a plane concept to the third dimentionl structure. And then, the fourth chapter, we try to draw a new meaning andre-interpretation of the Formal-Grid as a representatuinnal structure appeared in the post-modernist paintings, going with its deconstructional situation. Therefore, we can, in our study on Grids, see the various points of view in the interpretation of them as illusion-structure, as plane-structure, and as cubic-structure; its concept differs form times, oscillating between its formation and deconstruction. The Grid, as we have seen in my dissertation, contains various problems and significations in art that deserve to investigate throughly, including some important plastic problem such as space and plane, and, in the case of do-grid, time. We may expect new concepts of it that will have difference meanings. 1 hope my study makes some contributions to understanding the coordination of the abstruse modern and contemporary art.

A Study on Fashion illustration Based on Pop Art Technique (패션 일러스트레이션에서 보여지는 팝 아트적 표현 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Today, Fashion illustration has been diversified in its usage and respotlighted in the significance of its artistry by artists' interpretation and subjective perspectives. The purpose of this study is to find out theoretical reestablishment of this extended expression sphere and possible expression coverage of Fashion illustration. First, based on the Fashion illustration works revealing expressive features of Pop Art, this study reviews major considerations of Fashion illustration, i.e. assemblage, silk screen and new possible perspectives respectively. Therefore, based on the reviews, this study seeks to deduce pop art characteristics of expression technique found in Fashion illustration. Expression modes of Pop Art are represented broadly by assemblage, silk screen and new perspectives. Based on corresponding case analysis, this study could come to find out the following expressive features of pop art revealed in Fashion illustration: First, it is found that contemporary Fashion illustration pursues unbounded expressions and unprecedented styles owing to material variety. Second, it is found that contemporary Fashion illustration tries to adopt new and experimental techniques including computer program. Third, it is found that Fashion illustration characterized mainly by expressive features of Pop Art shows and pioneer a wide variety of application spheres including commercials(ads), newspaper or magazine illustration and cartoon ads simply beyond designer's creative drawing. Furthermore, it is expected that Pop Art's expressive features shown in Fashion illustration will evolve through a fusion with various experimental techniques, and keep having cultural and artistic influence in the future as well.

  • The purpose of this research is to find out the characteristics of sexuality expressed in the contemporary modern fashion jacket, especially designer Thom Browne. Thom Browne is a very successful fashion brand that has focused on design of extraordinary theme. In the research methodology, the analysis was carried out over a total of 862 work pieces in the collection of S/S, F/W, RESORT, PRE-FALL from 2010 to 2016. The characteristics of the contemporary expressions of sexualities can be subdivided into four separate categories. First, The demolition is inflated retail, exaggerated shoulder silhouettes, such as short sleeve jacket is mainly used in the form of a women's match with each other and expressed by different materials applied to men. Female jackets are designed for the silhouette to highlight the strong masculine image to highlight additional detail on the chest or vice versa, to express women's jacket to distort the female. Secondly, Sensuality is designed the body of a male was represented by a design that gives a greater masculinity was expressed that the interpretation of the male gender in detail jacket sleeves and wrap the exposed areas of the important men of fashion. Women's jacket by using a see-through material, mainly sensory Castle outward to reveal the concealed body of the female form a natural curve shows the feminine sensuality. Lastly, Incongruity is inadequate representation by sex of clothing to match the jacket and skirt in women's wear it is also unsuitable for revealing gender as male by applying soot forms. The study attempts to find the meaning in that this presents the direction of the creative development of the modern fashion design based on the aesthetic characteristics of Thom Browne fashion appearing in the modern fashion.

  • When reviewing animation based on a mythical motive, the mythical imaginary power has been dependent only on audio visual senses thereby resorting to a fantasy nature regardless of reality, or there has been too much emphasis on an educational message and animation has been utilized as a conflicting composition between good and evil. Therefore, this thesis reviewed 1) whether the author's consciousness was reflected in animation according to the contemporary interpretation of mythical imaginary power and 2) whether the author included an internal meaning of a universal subject by having a short animation that was produced by actively utilizing a mythical motive as a text. Also, based on the analysis, the study deduced the conclusion that the most important thing in animation based on a mythical motive is the author's consciousness that reinterprets the theme of 'universality' from a contemporary perspective before expressing the mythical objects through the senses such as by a brilliant image and sound. The products of such an analysis are supposed to solve the problem over how mythical factors need to be applied and utilized in creating animation.

A Study on the Singularity of Mise en $sc{\acute{e}}ne$ in the Contemporary Interior Architecture (현대실내건축의 미장센적 특이성에 관한 연구)

  • This thesis sets out to study the immanent mechanism of architectural space which had been classified as external space in general. The mise en $sc{\acute{e}}ne$ could consider one among various immanent tools to deal with the singularity of interior architecture. An imaginary interrelationship between cinema and architecture offers a possibility which a mise en $sc{\acute{e}}ne$ could be used with a space making equipment. The mise en $sc{\acute{e}}ne$ is a conscious equipment to lead a meta-function of simple visual-perception. The mise en $sc{\acute{e}}ne$-space has been supposed to visual-perception cases and conscious cases in interior architecture. In particular, as a result of analysis, it becomes clear that the mise en $sc{\acute{e}}ne$-space is a kind of something signifer to expose designers's an abyss of conscious and unconscious. In my opinion, this is the very way that the contemporary interior architecture is exposed to its singularity by a mechanism of mise en $sc{\acute{e}}ne$-space. In conclusion, the psychoanalysis-frame of mise en $sc{\acute{e}}ne$-space has brought out any possibility of an interpretation about architectural immanent themes like a subject, meaning creation, and construction logic, and it has also been useful to reveal the architectural singularity.
