A Study on Design of Controller for ATC using Neural Network Predictive Control (신경회로망 예측제어를 이용한 ATC 제어기 설계에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, an automatic crane control system is required with high speed and rapid transportation. Therefore, when container is transferred from the initial coordinate to the finial coordinate, the container paths should be built in terms of the least time and without sway. Therefore, we calculated the anti-collision path for avoiding collision in its movement to the finial coordinate in this paper. And we constructed the neural network predictive two degree of freedom PID (NNPPID) controller to control the precise navigation. The proposed Predictive control system is composed of the neural network predictor, two degree of freedom PID(TDOFPID) controller, neural network self-tuner which yields parameters of TDOFPID. We analyzed crane system through simulation, and proved excellency of control performance over the conventional controllers.

  • In this paper, we develop anti-sway control in proposed techniques for an ATC system. The developed algorithm is to build the optimal path of container motion and to calculate an anti-collision path for collision avoidance in its movement to the finial coordinate. Moreover, in order to show the effectiveness in this research, we compared NNP PID controller to be tuning parameters of controller using NN with 2-DOF PID controller. The experimental results jar an ATC simulator show that the proposed control scheme guarantees performances, trolley position, sway angle, and settling time in NNP PID controller than other controller. As a result, the application of NNP PID controller is analyzed to have robustness about disturbance which is wind of fixed pattern in the yard.

  • The remote operation of $4\~5$ cranes for container loading/unloading at a port by one operator will dramatically improve loading/unloading efficiency through productivity increase, cost reduction, and so on. This study develops a remote crane control system for container loading/unloading yard cranes. First, a wireless video and audio system to transmit views and sounds of the working field is designed by using 3 web cameras and a microphone. Next, a RSVP-based multi-path reservation method is presented with a view to improving the quality of service in the communication network for remote control. Simulation results show that a RSVP-based multi-path reservation can enhance the reservation success rate in the TCP/IP network.

  • In Pusan port, the studies, which analysis container cargo volumes by using forecasting methods and research about container logistics system, etc., have been continuously performed. But, in Pusan port, this study on an evaluation of traffic congestion has been scarcely performed until now. Especially, when changing and extending a berth, and constructing a new port, it is very important to examine this field. And it should be considered. Thus, this paper aims to analysis the effect of ship traffic condition in 2011, to evaluate marine traffic congestion, according to changing ship traffic volumes in Pusan port.   • In the paper We have analyzed the case study of the domestic and foreign railway logistic information systems based on the railway logistic to build the information architect basis system of real-time simultaneous. In case of domestic examples, We have analyzed the logistic information system used in Korea Railroad and the information systems of Kyungin ICD(Inland Container Depot) and Busanjin CY(Container Yard). In case of foreign example, we have analyzed the logistic information system of Japanese FRENS(Freight information network system) and the examples of freight tracking using RFID(Radio Frequency Identification). Through the above analysis, We have induced the main problems and improvement methods. We are able to build the railway-oriented information network system for the massive and efficient railway transportation.

An Analysis of Container Port Efficiency in ASEAN

  • In order to improve the overall ASEAN maritime transport network, each port's efficiency is regarded as a crucial factor that should be calculated periodically. This study evaluated the relative efficiency of container port operations of 32 ports belonging to 9 ASEAN nations using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). It found that 2 out of 32 ports in 2010 were measured as efficient ports. This study yielded two major findings. Firstly, the ports assessed as inefficient need to benchmark similar ports in size and structure from the ports that are assessed as efficient to improve their efficiency. Secondly, these results could be used to determine potential candidates and country for an international port development co-operation programme with Korea to improve the performance of the entire ASEAN port network by developing the infrastructures of ill-equipped ports.

  • Modern information technologies continue to provide industries with new and improved methods. With the rapid development of Machine to Machine (M2M) communication, a smart container supply chain management is formed based on high performance sensors, computer vision, Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites, and Globle System for Mobile (GSM) communication. Existing supply chain management has limitation to real time container tracking. This paper focuses on the studies and implementation of real time container chain management with the development of the container identification system and automatic alert system for interrupts and for normal periodical alerts. The concept and methods of smart container modeling are introduced together with the structure explained prior to the implementation of smart container tracking alert system. Firstly, the paper introduces the container code identification and recognition algorithm implemented in visual studio 2010 with Opencv (computer vision library) and Tesseract (OCR engine) for real time operation. Secondly it discusses the current automatic alert system provided for real time container tracking and the limitations of those systems. Finally the paper summarizes the challenges and the possibilities for the future work for real time container tracking solutions with the ubiquitous mobile and satellite network together with the high performance sensors and computer vision. All of those components combine to provide an excellent delivery of supply chain management with outstanding operation and security.

A Review on Yard Management in Container Terminals

  • With advancements of quay side equipments and technologies, the bottleneck of port operations has moved from quay side to yard side. The yard management of a port has significant influences on the competitiveness of a port in the global shipping network. The research area of yard management has attracted a lot of attentions from both the academia and the industrial practitioners. This paper gives a comprehensive review for the studies on the yard management in container terminals. From three aspects, i.e., yard cranes management, yard vehicles management, and yard spaces management, this paper reports the advances in these three areas. Some future directions on the yard management researches are also discussed. The purpose of this paper is to stimulate more practically relevant researches in this emerging area.

  • Recently, the change of shipping and port environment has required the new strategy from the liners, terminal operators, ports. The ports of call in the North American and European line also has changed as the Chinese ports made rapid advance. This seems to result from the fact that the trend of the container transportation by sea has developed the traditional concept, called port-to-port system that directly links between a port and another port into the network with complicated hierarchical structure reflecting costs, efficiency, and strategy of the Mega Carrier. This paper suggests the factors for Busan port to become the hub port of northeast Asia by analyzing the change of the liners' strategy along the change of the shipping and port environment, the global management of the operator of container port, and the amount of containers flowing in the northeast Asia.
