The explicit scheme for finite element analysis of sheet metal forming problems has been widely used for providing practical solutions since it improves the convergency problem, memory size and computational time especially for the case of complicated geometry and large element number. The explicit schemes in general use are based on the elastic-plastic modeling of material requiring large computataion time. In the present work, a basic formulation for rigid-plastic explicit finite element analysis of plain strain sheet metal forming problems has been proposed. The effect of some basic parameters involved in the dynamic analysis has been studied in detail. Thus, the effective ranges of parameters have been proposed for numerical simultion by the rigid-plastic explicit finite element method. A direct trial-and-error method is introduced to treat contact and friction. In computation, sheet material is assumed to possess normal anisotropy and rigid-plastic workhardening characteristics. In order to show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed explicit scheme, computations are carried out for cylindrical punch stretching and the computational results are compared with those by the implicit scheme as well as with a commercial code. The proposed rigid-plastic exlicit finite element method can be used as a robust and efficient computational method for analysis of sheet metal forming.
In recent years, techniques for micro-assembly with high repeatability under a scanning electron microscope (SEM) are required to construct highly functional micro-devices. Adhesion phenomenon is more significant for smaller objects, because adhesional force is proportional to size of the objects while gravitational force is proportional to the third power of it. It is also known that adhesional force between micro-objects exposed to Electron Beam irradiation of SEM increases with the elapsed time. Therefore, mechanical manipulation techniques using a needle-shaped tool by adhesional force are often adopted in basic researches where micro-objects are studied. These techniques, however, have not yet achieved the desired repeatability because many of these could not have been supported theoretically. Some techniques even need the process of trial-and-error. Thus, in this paper, mechanical and adhesional micro-manipulation are analyzed theoretically by introducing new physical factors, such as adhesional force and rolling-resistance, into the kinematic system consisting of a sphere, a needle-shaped tool, and a substrate. Through this analysis, they are revealed that how the micro-sphere behavior depends on the given conditions, and that it is possible to cause the fracture of the desired contact Interfaces selectively by controlling the force direction in which the tool-tip loads to the sphere. Based on the acquired knowledge, a mode diagram, which indicates the micro-sphere behavior for the given conditions, is designed. By referring to this mode diagram, the practical technique of the pick and place manipulation of a micro-sphere under an SEM by the selective interface fracture is proposed.
This paper presents shape design, surface construction, and cutting path generation for the surface of marine ship propeller blades. A propeller blade should be designed to satisfy performance constraints that include operational speed which impacts rotations per minutes, stresses related to deliverable horst power, and the major length of the marine ship which impacts the blade size and shape characteristics. Primary decision variables that affect efficiency in the design of a marine ship propeller blade are the blade diameter and the expanded area ratio. The blade design resulting from these performance constraints typically consists of sculptured surfaces requiring four or five axis contoured machining. In this approach a standard blade geometry description consisting of blade sections with offset nominal points recorded in an offset table is used. From this table the composite Bezier surface geometry of the blade is created. The control vertices of the Hazier surface patches are determined using a chord length fitting procedure from tile offset table data. Cutter contact points and path intervals are calculated to minimize travel distance and production time while maintaining a cusp height within tolerance limits. Long path intervals typically generate short tool paths at the expense of increased however cusp height. Likewise, a minimal tool path results in a shorter production time. Cutting errors including gouging and under-cut, which are common errors in machining sculptured surfaces, are also identified for both convex and concave surfaces. Propeller blade geometry is conducive to gouging. The result is a minimal error free cutting path for machining propeller blades for marine ships.

Three single crystals of fully dehydrated $Co^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite Y (Si/Al = 1.56) were prepared by the exchange of $Na_{75}$-Y ($|Na_{75}|[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU) with aqueous streams 0.05 M in $Co(NO_3)_2$, pH = 5.1, at 294 K for 6 h, 12 h, and 18 h, respectively, followed by vacuum dehydration at 673 K. Their single-crystal structures were determined by synchrotron X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Fd3m at 100(1) K. They were refined to the final error indices $R_1/wR_2$ = 0.0437/0.1165, 0.0450/0.1228, and 0.0469/0.1278, respectively. Their unit-cell formulas are $|Co_{29.1}Na_{11.8}H_{5.0}|[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU, $|Co_{29.8}Na_{11.0}H_{4.4}|[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU, and $|Co_{30.3}Na_{9.5}H_{4.9}|[Si_{117}Al_{75}O_{384}]$-FAU, respectively. In all three crystals, $Co^{2+}$ ions occupy sites I, I' and II; $Na^+$ ions are also at site II. The tendency of $Co^{2+}$ exchange slightly increases with increasing contact time as $Na^+$ content and the unit cell constant of the zeolite framework decrease.
Since glass microsphere has high crush strength, low density and small particle size, it becomes alternative thermal insulation material for cryogenic systems, such as storage and transportation tank for cryogenic fluids. Although many experiments have been performed to verify the effective thermal conductivity of microsphere, prediction by calculation is still inaccurate due to the complicated geometries, including wide range of powder diameter distribution and different pore sizes. The accurate effective thermal conductivity model for microsphere is discussed in this paper. There are four mechanisms which contribute to the heat transfer of the evacuated powder: gaseous conduction ($k_g$), solid conduction ($k_s$), radiation ($k_r$) and thermal contact ($k_c$). Among these components, $k_g$ and $k_s$ were calculated by Zehner and Schlunder model (1970). Other component values for $k_c$ and $k_r$, which were obtained from experimental data under high vacuum conditions were added. In this research paper, the geometry of microsphere was simplified as a homogeneous solid sphere. The calculation results were compared with previous experimental data by R. Wawryk (1988), H. S. Kim (2010) and the experiment of this paper to show good agreement within error of 46%, 4.6% and 17 % for each result.
