  • The effects of low temperature plasma treatment on the properties of three types of foams, polyurethane(PU), injection phylon(IP), and phylon(PH) that used for footwear mid-sole were examined. The change of surface properties of foams were characterized by electron scanning microscope, contact angle measurement, and universal testing machine. Adhesion was tested by T-peel tests of plasma treated foams/polyurethane adhesive joints. The contact angle of three types of foams were decreased dramatically with the plasma treatment time, specifically noticeable in the case of phylon(Ph). It has shown the relationship with the contact angle of phylon(PH) and the distance between electrode and samples. The peel strength of foams were increased with the increase of plasma treatment time.

  • This paper explores the potential use of neural networks (NNs) in the field of contact mechanics. A neural network model is developed for predicting, with sufficient approximation, the contact lengths between the elastic layer and two elastic circular punches. A backpropagation neural network of three layers is employed. First contact problem is solved according to the theory of elasticity with integral transformation technique, and then the results are used to train the neural network. The effectiveness of different neural network configurations is investigated. Effect of parameters such as load factor, elastic punch radii and flexibilities that influence the contact lengths is also explored. The results of the theoretical solution and the outputs generated from the neural network are compared. Results indicate that NN predicted the contact length with high accuracy. It is also demonstrated that NN is an excellent method that can reduce time consumed.

  • Most of mechanical structures are combined of substructures such as beams and/or plates. There are few systems with unibody structures but are many systems with united body structures. Generally the dynamic a nalysis of whole structures is performed under alternation load. In the structure design, the analysis of each bolted joint is more important than others for zero severity. This paper presents the analysis method of contact stress distribution factor in the bolted joint with variable fastening torque on joints in the structure. At first, a static vibration test was performed to find out a nominal stress of bolt jointed plates from the relationship between natural frequency and nominal stress. Then a contact stress was computed at contact point between bolt and plate in the structure. It is believed that the proposed method has promisiong implications for safer design with index of contact stress distribution factor and has merits for cost-down and saving time at the beginning of vehicle development.

  • In this research, a numerical algorithm has been developed, which can be applied to the large deformation and large displacement contact problems between angle change have been proposed considering the change in geometric shape and rate of contact force. A set of linear simultaneous equations is constructed by adding the geometric shape change and contact conditions to the original stiffness matrix. A new method to determine time increment has been proposed based on Euler method, in which the condition to prevent the contact bodies from penetrating and overrunning each other has been taken into consideration. Practical application to contact problem is extrusion in which bodies are sliding along the contact boundary.

  • A garter spring, which is a long, special, close-coiled extension spring with its ends joined to form a ring, is used in tulip contactor between vacuum circuit breaker and bus bar in switchgear. To carry short-time current and resist welding at the contact surface in the tulip contactor, the garter spring must transmits an uniform contact force to the contact surface through the contact chips arranged in the circumference of bus bar. In this paper, the system for measurement of the contact force by the garter spring is developed. Using the developed measurement system, the design of the connection structure including the garter spring is reviewed to obtain the uniform contact forces in all of contact chips.

  • This paper presents a method for calculating contact force of any shaped rigid bodies on plane. At each integration time step, the proposed method finds expected contact point on their outlines and then calculates penetration and contact force. This paper is using the continuous analysis method to calculate contact force. To get the accurate expected contact point on their outlines, a new algorithm is developed. Through the comparison with DADS, the accuracy of the proposed algorithm is proved.

  • The nanoimprint lithography technology makes higher density of semiconductor device and larger capacity of storage media. In this technology the induced damage while detaching polymer pattern from mold should be minimized. In order to analyze the problem, the basic knowledge of adhesion between the polymer and the mold is required. In this study a contact experiment of polyisobutylene specimen with spherical steel tip and polyisobutylene bead tip was conducted using nano indenter. During the contact experiment with various loading rate under load control the contact behavior of viscoelastic material was measured, i.e., the load and displacement between the tip and the specimen were measured. The data was analyzed by HBK model to obtain the stress intensity factor of contact edge and the contact radius as a function of time. Also the adhesion energies between steel/polyisobutylene and polyisobutylene/polyisobutylene were obtained employing the analysis of the crack of viscoelastic material by Schapery.

  • The power relay can be easily controlled with high voltage and current through the contacts. For this reason, has become widely used range in a variety of applications. In this study, we measured the contact resistance between the bouncing phenomenon of contact due to the change of load. The results of the experiment, the contact resistance increases with the deterioration of the contact, it is possible to predict the life of the relay contacts through the contact resistance. And relay bounce duration time have occurred in 3.5 ms or less. In addition, it is possible to use the results to design an arc suppression circuit device.

  • In this paper, we discuss influence of process condition on contact resistance in WSix deposition process. In the WSix deposition process, we confirmed that word line to bit line contact resistance(WBCR) due to temperature of word line WSix deposition among various process condition split experiment. RTP treatment, d-poly ion implantation dose and thickness was estimated a little bit influence on contact resistance. Also, life time of shower head in the process chamber for WSix deposition related to contact resistance. The results obtained in this study are applicable to process control and electrical characteristics for high reliability and high density DRAM's.

  • Most nondestructive testing techniques require good contact between the sensor and tested concrete surface to obtain reliable data. But the surface preparation is often very time and labor consuming due to the rough surface or limited access of concrete structures. One approach to speed up the data collection process is to eliminate the need for physical contact between the sensor and tested structure. Non-contact air-coupled sensing technique can be a good solution to this problem. An obvious advantage of the non-contact air-coupled sensing technique is which can greatly speed up the data collection in field and thus the damage detection process can be completed very rapidly. In this article, recent developments in non-contact air-coupled sensing technique for rapid detection of damages in concrete structures are summarized to evoke interest, discussion and further developments on this technique to a NDT research community in Korea. It is worth noting that the works in this article have been published in the types of thesis, proceedings, and journals. All published sources are cited in the text and listed in reference.
