A $C^{0}$ continuous displacement finite element method based on a higher-order shear deformation theory is employed in the prediction of the transient response of laminated composite plates subjected to low-velocity impact. A modified contact law was applied to calculate the contact force during impact. The discrete element chosen is a nine-noded quadrilateral with 5 degree-of-freedom per node. The Wilson-.theta. time integration algorithm is used for solving the time dependent equations of the impactor and the central difference method was adopted to perform time integration of the plate. Numerical results, including the contact force history, deflection, and velocity history, are presented. Comparisons of numerical results using a higher order theory and a first-order theory show that using a higher order theory provides more accurate results. Effects of boundary condition, impact velocity, and mass of the impactors are also discussed.d.
In classical dynamics, the coefficient of restitution is one of variables to estimate the amount of impulse. In general, we have considered the coefficient of restitution as a constant value. However, coefficient of restitution (COR) is the function of contact material and colliding velocity. Furthermore, COR is also a function of contact area. Thus, without considering the variable characteristic of COR, the actual motion of an object just after impact is not the same as we expect. A general COR model is proposed in this work and its effectiveness is verified through a cart impact experiment and its result is applied to simulation of a ball impact problem. A three-degree-of-freedom manipulator is employed as a test-bed.

An investigation was performed to study the impact damage of the laminated composite plates caused by a low- velocity foreign object with multi-scale modeling based on the concepts of Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS)[4]. In the micro-scale part, we discretize the composite plates through separate modeling of fiber and matrix for the local microscopic analysis. A micro-scalemodel was developed for predicting the initiation of the damage and the extent of the final damage as a function of material properties, laminate configuration and the impactor's mass, etc. Anda macro-scale model was developed for description of global dynamic behavior. The connection betweenmicroscopic and macroscopic is implemented by the tied interface constraints of LS-DYNA contact card. A transient dynamic finite element analysis was adopted for calculating the contact force history and the stresses and strains inside the composites during impact resulting from a point-nose impactor. The low-velocity impact events such as contact force, deformation, etc. are simulated in the macroscopic sense and the impact damages, fiber-breakage, matrix cracking and delamination etc. are examined in the microscopic sense.
Large deflection dynamic responses of laminated composite cylindrical shells under impact are analyzed by the geometrically nonlinear finite element method based on a generalized Sander's shell theory with the first order transverse shear deformation and the von-Karman large deflection assumption. A modified indentation law with inelastic indentation is employed for the contact force. The nonlinear finite element equations of motion of shell and an impactor along with the contact laws are solved numerically using Newmark's time marching integration scheme in conjunction with Akay type successive iteration in each step. The ply failure region of the laminated shell is estimated using the Tsai- Wu quadratic interaction criteria. Numerical results, including the contact force histories, deflections and strains are presented and compared with the ones by linear analysis. The effect of the radius of curvature on the composite shell behaviors is investigated and discussed.

In this work, a new time integration method is proposed using the generalized derivative concept to simulate the dynamic phenomena having sudden constraint occurring in dynamic contact/impact problems. By the adoption of the generalized derivative concept and jump assumption, discontinuity can be incorporated in time integration and as a result, the algorithm does not need any other special consideration of jumps in dynamic field variables due to sudden constraint like dynamic contact-release conditions. To observe the characteristics of the proposed time integration method, the stability and convergence analyses are carried out. In numerical tests, several dynamic contact/impact problems are analyzed by straightforward application of the proposed time integration method with the exterior penalty method.

In this study a computer program is developed for analyzing the elasto-plastic dynamic behaviors of the plate subjected to line-loading by a low-velocity impactor. The equilibrium equation associated with the Hertzian contact law is formulated to evaluate the transient dynamic behaviour of the impacted plate. Compared with an elastic analysis, the effects of material plasticity are presented. Consequently, in the case of elasto-plastic analysys, impulse decreases, displacements increase and contact time duration is longer than the elastic case for same finite element model. And the time variation of the impacting load is not significant due to the plasticity except at the beginning of impact duration, and the induced stresses of the plate are more realistic.

A drop weight type impact test system is designed and set up to experimentally investigate impact responses of composite laminates subjected to the low-velocity impact. Using the test system, the impact velocity and the rebound velocity of the impactor as well as the impact force history are measured. An error of the measured data due to a difference in measuring position of the sensor is corrected and, for the estimation of real contact force history, a method of correcting an error due to friction forces is developed. Experimental methods to fix the boundary edgy of laminate specimens in impact testing are investigated and the impact tests on the specimens fixed by those methods are performed. Impact force histories and dynamic strains measured from the tests are compared with numerical results from the finite element analysis using the contact law. Consequently, the nonlinear numerical results considering the large deflection effects are agreed with the experimental results better than the linear ones.
The purpose of this research was to analyze kinematic variables that appear during the instep shooting motion of female high school soccer players according to the angle of approach to find effective shooting motions. For this experiment, 5 female high school soccer players from the K city were participated in this study as the subject group, and as a through comparison and analysis of the resulting numbers of the variables, we came to the following conclusions. 1) Stride length and stride length/lower extremity length increased as the angle of approach increased. 2) As for C.O.G movement displacement, it was highest at an approach angle of $90^{\circ}$ during Right Foot Contact, at $135^{\circ}$ during Left Foot Contact, at $0^{\circ}$ during Rigth Toe Top, at $45^{\circ}$ during Impact, and at $0^{\circ}$ during Follow through. 3) The time required for each phase was longest at APP and shortest at BSP. The time required increased a little as the angle of approach increased, and the total time required also increased as the angle of approach increased. 4) The angle of the ankle joint was largest at an approach angle of $45^{\circ}$ for all events except Right Foot Contact. 5) The angle of the knee joint was largest at an approach angle of $135^{\circ}$ during Right Foot Contact, at $0^{\circ}$ during Left Foot Contact, at $45^{\circ}$ during Right Toe Top, at $135^{\circ}$ during Impact, and at $90^{\circ}$ during Follow through. 6) The angle of the hip joint was largest at an approach angle of $90^{\circ}$ during Right Foot Contact, at$0^{\circ}$ during Left Foot Contact, at $0^{\circ}$ during Right Toe Top, at $90^{\circ}$ during Impact, and at $0^{\circ}$ during Follow through.
We have developed a highly responsible probing system for inspection of electrical properties of assemble PCB$_{s}$ (printed circuit boards). However, as the duration of the impact occurring between a probe and a solder joint on PCB is very short, it is very difficult to control the harmful peak impact force and the slip motion of the probe to sufficient level only by its vorce feedback control with high gains. To overcome these disadvantages of the prototype, it needs ot obtain some information of the solder joint in advance before the contact. In addition, to guarantee the reliability of the probing task, the probing system is required to measure several points around the probale target point at high speed. There fore, to meet such requirements, we propose a new noncontaet sensor capable of detecting simultaneously position and normal vectors of the multiple points around the probable target point in real time. By using this information, we can prepare a control strategy for stable contact motion on impact. In this paper, we described measuring priniciple, design, and development of the sensor. The effectiveness of the proposed sensor is verified through a series of experiments.s.

The present paper considers the contact between energy-saving device of ice-class vessel and ice block. The main objective of this study is to clarify the tendency of the ice impact force and the structural response as well as interaction effects of them. The contact analysis is performed by using LS-DYNA finite element code. The main collision scenario is based on Finnish-Swedish ice class rules and a stern duct model is used as an energy-saving device. For the contact force, two modelling approaches are adopted. One is dynamic indentation model of ice block based on the pressure-area curve. The other is numerical material modelling by LS-DYNA. The authors investigated the sensitivity of the structural response against the ice contact pressure, the interaction effect between structure and ice block, and the influence of eccentric collision. The results of these simulations are presented and discussed with respect to structural safety.
