Application of Buckling Restrained Braces in a 50-Storey Building

  • The use of Buckling Restrained Braces (BRB) for enhancing the performance of the buildings is gaining wider acceptance. This paper presents the first application of these devices in a major high-rise building in the Philippines. A 50-storey residential reinforced concrete building tower, with ductile core wall, with BRB system is investigated. The detailed modeling and design procedure of buckling restrained brace system is presented for the optimal design against the two distinct levels of earthquake ground motions; serviceable behavior for frequent earthquakes and very low probability of collapse under extremely rare earthquakes. The stiffness and strength of the buckling restrained brace system are adjusted to optimize the performance of the structural system under different levels of earthquakes. Response spectrum analysis is conducted for Design Basis Earthquake level and Service level, while nonlinear time history analysis is performed for the most credible earthquake. The case study results show the effectiveness of buckling restrained braces.

  • Ubiquitous technology(UT)의 발전과 더불어 특성 산업에 가시적인 적용 성과가 나타남으로써, 전통적인 제조업에서도 ubiquitous 환경 구현 및 제조기술(MT: Manufacturing Technology)과의 융합을 통한 제조혁신의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 ubiquitous factory 구현을 위한 체계적인 서비스 개발을 위해서, factory에 적용할 수 있는 특정 서비스 platform 개발을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해, 서비스 개발 platform과 관련된 연구와 ubiquitous 서비스 개발 방법론 등을 분석하여 factory 현장에 바로 적용할 수 있는 platform을 개발하였다. 개발된 platform을 검증하기 위해 사례분석을 통해 연관분석을 실시함으로써 본 연구의 타당성을 검토하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 platform은 ubiquitous factory를 구현하는데 활용될 예정이며, 향후 적용을 통한 개선사항을 도출하여 제조혁신을 위한 방법론으로 정립할 예정이다.

  • (Most companies that perform BPR have not achieved satisfactory results or have not performed successful BPRs. There are many reasons for this, but the most important one has caused problems that do not accurately reflect the requirements of various stakeholders. In this paper, we will apply the BPR consulting methodology to a new value innovation requirements engineering process based on the Blue Ocean strategy, which is a way to create a new market without competition by customerizing potential customers by satisfying new customer expectations and needs. This paper uses a requirements engineering process that can generate customer value by applying the ERRC(Erasure Reduce Raise Create) analysis method, which is the core of the Blue Ocean Strategy Framework[1,2]. We will also apply the Six Sigma DFSS (Design For Six Sigma) methodology to improve quality and process through quantitative and systematic analysis. The proposed approach was presented to the BPR consulting to present a practical case, and the results of the empirical analysis of the system user to validate the results of BPR consulting.

  • Objectives: As the demand to deal with pathogens in domestic research institutions has expanded and biological accidents have increased, the need for systematic biosafety management in infectious disease laboratories has grown. According to international standards, risk assessment (RA) is required for biosafety management. However, RA criteria have not been clearly established in Korea, so to this end I have attempted to determine RA criteria meeting international levels Methods: In order to provide RA criteria for application, I analyzed the RA criteria in use in the U.S., Europe and at international organizations. In order to ensure the public nature of the RA criteria, I constructed the research model through modified management consulting methodology reflecting the model of Radnor and O'Mahoney. Results: According to the results of the study, existing laboratory biosafety regulations were comparable to domestic laboratory safety laws. Existing laboratory biosafety standards that are designed around risk factors were found to be insufficient. An RA case to be carried out in infectious disease laboratories at the National Institute of Health of KCDC was identified. Conclusion: To establish a systematic risk management system meeting international standards, it was necessary first to harmonize the systems of national and international standards. In addition, in order to provide specific biosafety management on-site, I recognized a need for methodology and planning strategies to discover biosafety management so that it can be carried out as required through the RA of individual laboratories.

  • The certification scheme for best company has been implementing in order to stimulate the investment of private consulting company to reduce GHG emission. This study was conducted to set up the certification scheme, to suggest process, criterion, institute, committee which are necessary for the evaluation of certificate.   • Top-Down Construction Method has been considered as the steadiest and the most reasonable method of construction since 1984 when it was applied to LG Da-Dong building and its usage in the field construction has since grown rapidly. With increased cases, engineers not only pursue their studies of R & D continuously but also develop various technical methods based on Top-Down Construction in an era of rapid technological change to adopt them to the field construction. Top-Down Construction meets the needs of these challenging points, such as reduction and eliminates of temporary equipment for supporting permanent structures on the ground, improved method of construction, shortening construction periods, cost reduction, and allows for minimal environmental impact.

Case Analysis of Visiting Nursing Center for Improving Efficiencies: Based on Business Management Consulting (방문간호센터 경영효율성 개선 사례 분석: 경영 컨설팅 적용을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to present the management strategies necessary to improve the operational efficiency of visiting nurse centers and evaluate their effectiveness. Methods: The subjects of this study were visiting nurse centers registered as long-term care centers. Based on value chain analysis, cost information analysis, and data envelope analysis, the study was carried out according to the Magerison's management consulting procedure, for six months. This procedure comprised eight sub-steps of approach and application. Results: The following management strategies were agreed upon: establishment of a cooperative network with other visiting care centers, creation of high satisfaction of external customers by providing practical training to care workers, and making rehabilitation and exercise services as the core nursing activities to be focused on. Conclusion: The management consulting process and analysis method applied in this study can referred to as a useful methodological framework for revitalizing visiting nursing centers in the future.
