Preliminary programming for librarization of Haptic Primitives based on constructive solid geometry and god-object

  • We propose 'the haptic primitive' for haptic rendering without the need to solve complicated parametric equations. To develop 'the haptic primitive', we adopted "the God-Object Method" as a haptic rendering algorithm and applied 'Constructive Solid Geometry' to manage haptic objects. Besides being used in the 'ghost library' of $PHANToMTM^{TM}$ our method can be used as a basic component for developing tools and libraries that aim to simplify haptic modeling. It can also be applied to tactile display modules and temporal display modules. Ultimately it can be developed into a one-stop haptic modeling tool that enables the user to more conveniently create a tangible CAD systems or a tangible e-ommerce system.

  • This paper describes a C++ class hierarchy of implicit objects for geometry modeling and processing. This class structure provides a software kernel for integrating many various models and methods found in current implicit modeling areas. The software kernel includes primitive objects playing a role of unit element in creating a complex shape, and operator objects used to construct more complex shape of implicit object formed with the primitive objects and other operators. In this paper, class descriptions of these objects are provided to better understand the details of the algorithm or implementation, and its instance examples to show the capabilities of the object classes for constructive shape geometry. In addition, solid modeling system shown as an application example demonstrates that the proposed implicit object classes allow us to carry out modern solid modeling techniques, which means they have the capabilities to extend to various applications.

  • Technical approach on the modeling, simulation and experimentation methods, which are applied for developing a constructive simulation and engagement experimentation software for supporting light weight torpedo operational tactics study, is introduced. Conceptual modeling for the weapon engagement and simulation entities, mathematical models for the simulation elements, approach for the design of experimentations are described, and screen shots of the software are also presented as some example results of experimentation and analysis. It is found that the simulation and experimentation results are useful to support and fulfill the mission needs and requests. As a consequence, the technical approach is rated to be appropriate to accomplish the dedicated purpose of the simulation and experiments.

  • This paper defines Fuzzy Logic Units(FLUs) which are piece wise finite elements in multidimension Euclidean space, and redefines triangular membership functions which are different from those defined in traditional literature. By analyzing FLUs, this paper gives a constructive method of fuzzy rules in fuzzy logic systems based on finite element method. The simulation results of single machine to infinite bus system show the effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper.

A study on the constructive principle and Techniques of Vionnet's works (Vionnet 작품의 구성원리와 기법에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the constructive principle and techniques of Vionnet's works. According to analysis of Vionnets works, it was found that Vionnet conceived of the human body as a continuous shaping of a cylinder. Vionnet's drapery denied the planner presumption of woman and gave real three-dimension to form and to fashion. The techniques of Vionnet's works were as fallow : (1) She introduced the diogonal "bias cut" and changed dress design by her sensuous use of fabrics. (2) She eliminated interfacing to keep the silhouette and the fabric soft. (3) She manipulated the fabric to remove the excess for fit and decoration at the same time. (4) She treated the fabric with a synthesis of geometry and grace. (5) The sale luxury allowed was to note the choice of seams, facings, hems, and stitches. (6) Vionnet's dresses were not lined.

Relationships Between Teachers′ Knowledge of School Mathematics and their Views of Mathematics Learning and Instructional Practice: A Case Study of Taiwan

  • This study explored teachers (n = 219) from northern, central, southern and eastern Taiwan concerning their views about children's learning difficulties, mathematical instruction and school mathematics curricular. Results showed that teachers' mathematics knowledge or their instruction methods had no significant influence on their views of children's learning difficulties. Even though teachers indicated that understanding of abstract mathematical concepts was the most prominent difficulty for children, they tended to employ direct instruction rather than constructive and cooperative problem solving in their teaching. However, teachers' views of children's learning difficulties did influence their instructional practice. Results from in-dept interviews revealed that there were some obstacles that prevented teachers from putting constructiveism perspectives of instruction into teaching practice. Further investigation is needed to develop a better understanding of epistemology and teaming psychology as well as to help teachers create constructive learning situations.
