  • The KSTAR superconducting magnet system consists of 16 TF (Toroidal Field) and 14 PF (Poloidal Field) coils. Both of the TF and PF coil system use internally-cooled Cable-In-Conduit Conductors (CICC). The major achievement in KSTAR magnet system development includes the development of CICC, the development of a full size TF model coil, the development of a background magnetic field generation coil system, the construction of a large scale superconducting magnet. TF and PF coils are in the stage of the fabrication for the KSTAR completion in the year 2005.

  • Empirical modeling of wireless fading channels using common schemes such as autoregression and the finite state Markov chain (FSMC) is investigated. The conceptual background of both channel structures and the establishment of their mutual dependence in a confined manner are presented. The novel contribution lies in the proposal of a new approach for deriving the state transition probabilities borrowed from economic disciplines, which has not been studied so far with respect to the modeling of FSMC wireless fading channels. The proposed approach is based on equal portioning of the received signal-to-noise ratio, realized by using an alternative probability construction that was initially highlighted by Tauchen. The associated statistical procedure shows that a first-order FSMC with a limited number of channel states can satisfactorily approximate fading. The computational overheads of the proposed technique are analyzed and proven to be less demanding compared to the conventional FSMC approach based on the level crossing rate. Simulations confirm the analytical results and promising performance of the new channel model based on the Tauchen approach without extra complexity costs.

  • There are two methods to express natural phenomena using image processing techniques. One is the presentation of simulations for natural phenomena and the other is the display of images based on script. A lot of people used to get the display using vast data and complicated math formulas. When we get the output images in this way, we will have some problems in time and cost. In this paper, we use fluid images excluding using the complicated math formulas, programming, and taking pictures to present the natural phenomena. We construct the library to express the natural phenomena effectively using 2D images and simulation of fog for the background of oriental painting in 3D space.

  • Recently, the demand for Building Information Modeling (BIM) construction drawings and specifications has increased rapidly. Many countries have also started to implement BIM. The BIM implementation can change the design flow of buildings including high-rise buildings. Against this background, many companies are focusing on the development of BIM software. BIM involves a three-dimensional CAD program that can examine the placement of ductwork and machinery. It significantly increases the efficiency of a mechanical design through data unification using standard Industry Foundation Classes (IFC). In addition, BIM functions as a database to simplify the use of simulation technology for designing air-conditioning systems. To further develop BIM, it is important to know the expectations of mechanical engineers who will become frequent users of BIM in the future. A survey was conducted among Japanese mechanical engineers using a questionnaire to analyze the expectations of mechanical design using BIM. The results show that many respondents strongly recognize BIM as a three-dimensional CAD program. However they also expect that BIM can help the optimization of their design works and enhance design functionality by running simulations utilizing BIM.

  • This research suggests that the Design Quality Indicator for School(DQIfS) could be applied on the education facilities construction process not only as a building design assessment tool, but also as a participation tool. From the analyze of the background, the aims, the implementation processes and the case studies of the DQIfS, the results are: 1. DQI was formulated with the social requirement for the public participation in the public building design processes.; 2. DQI was articulated with the aim to involve the wide range of the stakeholders in the design processes, to hear the various opinions of the stakeholders, and to apply these opinions in the planning or the decision-making processes.; 3. In the implementation stage, it was found that the implementation methods of the DQIfS was devised to involve the wide range of the stakeholders. Moreover, the DQIfS has transformed its representation way to convey the results to the stakeholders and make a base for the discussion. 4. Through the case studies, it was found that the DQIfS was used with various participatory planning methods in the implementation process. Furthermore, the DQIfS was used as a main method to provide the basis of the discussion about the educational facility design. Thus, it could be concluded that DQIfS is a specialized participation tool for making participatory processes in the educational building design processes.

  • In this study, to explore the ways of the development of the effective and desirable teaching and learning materials for the elementary science gifted, relevant previous research results were critically examined and integrated. Then a theoretical background was established and specific materials in Life Areas of elementary science was developed based on the science knowledge construction types of 'What', 'How', and 'Why'. The results could be summarized as follows: (1) The types of educational programs for the science gifted were categorized and defined as 'General-Level','Early-Growing, Fast-Growing General Level', and 'Slow-Growing Enrichment, Excellence 'Types. (2) For 5th graders, in the unit of 'Environment and living Organisms', some activities of Enrichment Type for subject on 'Changes of Living Organism with Temperature' were developed following the processes of RDPE (Research-Development-Practice-Evaluation) and their ways of using and assessment were presented. On the basis of these results, several educational implications were discussed for further research and ways of applying to the science gifted education.

  • The stage facilities in the western culture originates in the scientifically planned Open Air Theater built in BC 3C and magnificent theaters built in the era of Rome. These buildings are the remains that reveal popularization of the play. Furthermore, the facilities continued to flourish in the medieval to the Industrial Revolution as stage art actualizing designers' imagination. Diverse systems developed in industrial technology have been transferred to the stage, and the balance between industrial and cultural art has been endeavored to be achieved. The conversion methods of the stage has been developing in various forms. Domestic stage setting arrangement techniques and material exploitation have also been developing. Therefore, in reality, it is very difficult to grasp the definite trend. Additionally, as for the stage system in Korea, plays are dependently directed by directors and stage artists. It is concluded that the current state should be understood based on actual examples to meet solve these problems. The purpose of the study is to provide basic data for stage facilities planning. To do this, how the stage system of large performance halls can be used in accordance with performance condition of the grounds in Korea and frequent scene changes is given a special attention. With this background, the surroundings of the stage and conversion system are examined.

  • This paper presents a method of the circuit design of the multiple-valued digital logic switching functions based on the modular techniques. Fisr of all, we introduce the necessity, background and concepts of the modular design techniques for the digital logic systems. Next, we discuss the definitions that are used in this paper. For the purpose of the circuit design for the multiple-valued digital logic switching functions, we discuss the extraction of the partition functions. Also we describe the construction method of the building block, that is called the modules, based on each partition functions. And we apply the proposed method to the example, we compare the results with the results of the earlier methods. In result, we decrease the control functions, it means that we obtain the effective cost in the digital logic design for any other earlier methods. In the future research, we require the universal module that traet more partition functions and more compact module.

  • Because of formlessness and sightlessness of software, sytematic quality management is hard to implement. But we attemped collective quality management as hardware production by configuration management and settled on software quality management standard outlines. We are implementing efficient quality management by software quality management according as these standard guidelines. In this study, we study error management supporting functions as an attempt of development of software quality management supporting system which can support quality management activity by reduction and early finding of error input, and represent various visual output elements which can help error management supporting functions. And we represent the background of construction of this software quality management system and searched effects which we can get when we use the error management supporting function.
