This paper investigates mechanical properties of roller compacted concrete (RCC) involving reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). In this way, a set of 276 cylindrical RCC specimens were prepared with different RAP sizes (i.e., fine, coarse & total) at various ratios (i.e., 10%, 20%, and 40%). Results reveal that incorporation of RAP decreases unconfined compressive strength (UCS), modulus of elasticity (E), and indirect tensile (IDT) strength of RCC. For each RAP size, a regression model was used to maximize RAP content while satisfying the UCS lower limit (27.6 Mpa) mentioned by ACI as a minimum requirement for RCC used in pavement construction. Moreover, UCS of RAP incorporated mixes, dissimilar to that of control mixes, was found to be sensitive and insensitive to the testing temperature and curing time after 7 days, respectively. The results also demonstrate that the higher amounts of RAP, the more flexibility in RCC is. This issue was also proved by the results of modulus of elasticity test. In addition, the toughness index (TI) shows that increase in RAP content leads to up to 43% increase in energy absorbance capacity of RCC.

In this study, we explored the development of scientific model through the social-construction process on "combustion." Students were 8th graders from one middle school class. Each student engaged in small group discussions three times and made a group model on combustion. Discourses between peers and teacher were videotaped, audiotaped, and transcribed. The results show that the small groups constructed an initial concept: 'Conditions of combustion', which they then evaluated and revised the initial concept through combustion experiment. Following the discussions, some small groups evaluated their model and made a revised model. Then, the small groups compared various models and constructed a scientific model through consensus within the small group and as a whole class. Finally, students kept revising their model to 'Burning needs oxygen.' This tells us that the social construction process of scientific model made a meaningful role to build scientific model through diverse discussion between the students and their teacher, although they have had some difficult process to reach the final consensus. The data also showed some group features: the members were open to other's ideas. They analyzed the differences between their own ideas from others and revised their model after the whole class discussion. Lastly, they showed the tendency to make a good use of teacher's guidance. This study implies the importance of having social interaction process for students to understand the scientific model and learn the nature of scientific inquiry in class.
A scientific model refers to a conceptual system that can describe, explain, and predict a particular physical phenomenon. The co-construction of the scientific model is attracting attention as a new teaching and learning strategy in the field of science education and various studies. The evaluation and modification of models compared with the predicted models of data from the real world is the core of modeling strategy. However, there were only a limited data provided by the teacher in many studies of modeling comparing the students' predictions of their own models. Most of the students were not given the opportunity to evaluate the suitability of the model with the data in the real world. The purpose of this study was to develop a scientific model co-construction program that can evaluate the model by directly comparing the predicted models with the observed data from the real world. Through a collaborative discussion between teachers and researchers for 6 months, a 5-session scientific model co-construction program on the subject 'image formation by convex lenses' for second grade middle school students was developed. Eighty (80) students in 3 classes and a science teacher with 20 years of service from general public co-educational middle school in Gyeonggi-do participated in this 2-week program. After the class, students were asked about the helpfulness and difficulty of the class, and whether they would like to recommend this class to a friend. After the class, 95.8% of the students constructed the scientific model more than the model using the construction rule. Students had difficulties to identify principles or understand their friends, but the result showed that they could understand through model evaluation experiment. 92.5% of the students said that they would be more than willing to recommend this program to their friends. It is expected that the developed program will be applied to the school and contribute to the improvement of students' modeling ability and co-construction ability.

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between selected components of conceptual ecology that are reflected in high school science students' statements, when answering questions. This study follows from a position that there is reason to believe that, in the process of answering questions, many aspects of conceptual ecology are likely to play a role. Data were gathered through six audio-taped interviews, the science teacher's profiles of each student, the students' personal journals, their assignments, and their examinations and participation in class. Kay and KY were selected as the focus of this study because theirs were both dramatic as well as representative cases. As the findings suggest, learning styles differ according to distinctions within individuals' conceptual ecologies. Thus the way in which a person learns science varies according to the construction of her/his conceptual ecology. This suggests that different forms of pedagogy may be effective with different types of learners. This also suggests that science educators may have a role in assisting students to develop into constructed, rather than received, learners.
The purpose of the study is to investigate how children and preservice teachers would make a progress in solving the open-problems related to area. In knowledge-based information age, information inquiry, information construction, and problem solving are required. At the level of elementary school mathematics, area is mainly focused on the shape of polygon such as square, rectangle. However, the shape which we need to figure out at some point would not be always polygon-shape. With this perspective, many open-problems are introduced to children as well as preservice teacher. Then their responses are analyzed in terms of their logical thinking and their understanding of area. In order to make students improve their critical thinking and problem solving ability in real situation, the use of open problems could be one of the valuable methods to apply.

Since the importance of early education has been emphasized the Reggio preschools based on the philosophy of open education has been recreated in Korean culture. The Reggio Emilia approach to education is committed to the creation of conditions for learning that will enhance and facilitate children's construction of their own powers of thinking. Dream and hope of children are reflected in every where of the Reggio preschools that great attention is given to the look and feel of the classroom and environment is considered the‘third teacher.’ The results of the kindergarten design as a way of expressing direct, indirect and eclectic images using nature, that natural elements can become the elements of design in any form, and that nature's images are expressed by not only natural and artificial materials. In addition, safety and harmony with adjacent outdoors are also importantly considered in kindergarten design. Even though there were some limitations on this planning, the findings can be utilized as a basis for generating interior environmental recommendations for planning a better quality of kindergarten.

The paper compares the statutory requirements for the design mid construction of primary schools in Korea and Scotland with respect to fire safety and examines the attitudes to, and the behavior in, evacuation scenarios of Primary school Pupils in both countries. The key behavioral issues examined are the effectiveness of fire safety training, the level of teacher dependency, the effect of spatial organization and gender differences both within and between Korea and Scotland.
Students' participation in epistemic practices, which are related to knowledge construction on the part of students, is becoming a crucial part of learning (Goizueta, 2019). Research on epistemic practices in science education draws attention to teachers' support of students to engage in epistemic practices in mathematics instruction. The research highlights a need for incorporating epistemic goals, along with conceptual and social goals, into instruction to promote students' epistemic practices. In this paper, I investigate how teachers interact with students to integrate epistemic goals. I examined 24 interaction excerpts that I identified from six interview transcripts of two beginning teachers' mathematics instruction. Each excerpt was related to the teachers' talk about their specific interaction(s) in a small group. I explored how each teacher's discursive moves and goals were conceptual, social, and epistemic-related as they intervened in small groups. I found that both teachers used conceptual, social, and epistemic discursive move but their discursive moves were related only to social and social goals. This paper suggests supporting teachers to develop epistemic goals in mathematics instruction, particularly in relation to small groups.
The present curricula of department of common social studies education and department of geography education have the problem including only the basic completion subjects, and not including their principal themes. This unestablished state of principal themes in the basic completion subjects has given rise to the absent state of standard curriculum in department of common social studies education and department of geography education, and that finally has aroused many obstacles in the problem-setting and the examination-applying of middle and high school teacher appointment examination. Accordingly, this study established the principal themes of 21 basic completion subjects in common social studies and geography. The principal themes of 21 basic completion subjects in common social studies and geography will be form the base of establishing the content element of standard curriculum in department of common social studies education and department of geography education and the assessment element of middle and high school teacher appointment examination in common social studies and geography as an indication subject for examination of the teacher's qualification. Especially, considering the curriculum modification of college of education and the system change of middle and high school teacher appointment examination due to be propulsed simultaneously by Ministry of Education to the year of 2009, the establishment of principal themes in the basic completion subjects and the making of standard curriculum are very pertinent to the occasion. Because the principal themes of 21 basic completion subjects established in this study are made for some 50 days driven by the stress of circumstances, those have to be studied again. Also, because the construction of basic completion subjects includes many problems, that has to be revised.
