A Low-Cost Approach for Path Programming of Terrestrial Drones on a Construction Site

  • Robots for construction sites, although not deeply widespread, are finding applications in the duties of project monitoring, material movement, documentation, security, and simple repetitive construction-related tasks. A significant shortcoming in the use of robots is the complexity involved in programming and re-programming an automation routine. Robotic programming is not an expected skill set of the traditional construction industry professional. Therefore, this research seeks to deliver a low-cost approach toward re-programming that does not involve a programmer's skill set. The researchers in this study examined an approach toward programming a terrestrial-based drone so that it follows a taped path. By doing so, if an alternative path is required, programmers would not be needed to re-program any part of the automated routine. Changing the path of the drone simply requires removing the tape and placing a different path - ideally simplifying the process and quickly allowing practitioners to implement a new automated routine. Python programming scripts were used with a DJI Robomaster EP Core drone, and a terrain navigation assessment was conducted. The study examined the pass/fail rates for a series of trial run over different terrains. The analysis of this data along with video recording for each trial run allowed the researchers to conclude that the accuracy of the tape follow technique was predictable on each of the terrain surfaces. The accuracy and predictability inform a non-coding construction practitioner of the optimal placement of the taped path. This paper further presents limitations and suggestions for some possible extended research options for this study.

외국인 건설 근로자 현황 및 개선방안 (Current Status and Improvement Plan for Foreign Construction Laborer)

  • 건설 산업은 인력 중심형 산업으로 건설현장의 기능 인력이 공사의 품질, 공기, 비용 등 생산성에 큰 영향을 미친다. 그러나 현재 건설 산업의 상황은 건설현장에서 건설기능 인력의 부족현상을 발생하고 있다. 이에 기존 건설기능 인력의 노령화가 가속되고 신규 기능 인력이 유입되지 않음으로 인해 건설 산업의 기능인력 부족현상과 기능 수준저하가 발생하고 있는 실정이다. 이를 해결하기 위해 외국인 기능 인력을 활용하는 건설 현장이 늘어나고 있다. 본 연구는 현재 건설 기능 인력과 관련된 문제점에 대한 현황을 파악하고 그 대안을 제시하기 위하여 14개 현장 43명의 현장 관리자를 대상으로 설문조사를 수행하였다. 그 결과 외국인 기능 인력은 목공과 철근공이 많았으며, 기능 수준은 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 외국인 기능 인력의 가장 큰 문제점은 언어 소통과 낮은 기능 수준이다. 그리고 노무 생산성과 안전사고 발생률도 내국인 기능 인력에 비해서 높은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 논문은 응답자 의견을 근거로 기능 훈련, 언어 교육, 다문화 교육 등이 문제점 개선을 위해서 효과적이라고 제안하였다.

공동주택 외부 석재마감에 따른 창호주위 누수방지에 관한 연구 (A Study in the Water Leakage Prevention around the Windows with the Stone Materials in the Apartment House)

  • This study intends to suggest the effective methods for water leakage prevention around the windows in stone works to up-grade the outdoor public space that has been taken much portion of apartment housing trends. The subjects of the study was selected among the domestic subcontractors of stone works. There are four methods for water leakage prevention around the windows; Firstly, the painting water-proof method after the masonry. Secondly, the urethane water-proof method after galvanizing panels on the gap. Thirdly, the separation method between stone and substructure and the last one is water-proof method that they put some water-proof screen between stone and substructure with the EPDM sheets. According to the analysis of the water-proof effects, constructability and planning, we could approach to conclusion that the most influent items to the water-leakage are the filling material's deformation, the state of oxygenation and deterioration of work skill. Among the water-proof methods in construction the EPDM sheet is most excellent water-proof method to meet the technical conditions. However, we have to apply it to stone works as a water-proof method for the decrease of the leakage defects after standardizing the materials, test and construction skill because there are many work skills according the subcontractors.

지구과학 수업에서 MBL이 중학생들의 그래프 능력과 과학탐구능력에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of MBL on the Middle School Students' Graphing Skill and Science Process Skill in Earth Science Class)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 지구과학 수업에 적용한 MBL(Microcomputer Based Laboratory, 이하 MBL)이 중학생의 그래프 능력, 과학탐구능력에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하는 것이다. 중학교 지구과학 내용 중 5개의 실험 주제에 대하여 MBL 활용 탐구 활동 자료를 개발하였다. 이 MBL 수업자료를 33명의 중학생들에게 적용하고 사전 검사와 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, MBL 수업은 중학생의 그래프 능력 향상에 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 그래프 능력의 하위 영역인 그래프 작성, 그래프 해석 능력 모두에서 유의미한 향상을 보였다. 특히 자료 변환하기 영역에서 유의미한 효과가 크게 나타났다. 둘째, MBL 수업은 중학생의 과학탐구능력 향상에 유의미한 효과가 있었다.

Proposal of Database Design for Construction of Service for Skill Learning

  • In this paper, we propose the database design for skill learning service through the internet from the viewpoint of service engineering. This paper we describe the outlines for a design theory for skill learning service, which can lead to the satisfaction of both learner and instructor. Compared to other services, motion control learning takes a considerable amount of time, and this leads to a difficulty for learners to rate the quality of the service as well as for the instructors to provide consistent quality and standard of teaching. To solve these problems, we use a relational database with MongoDB which is an unstructured database allowing to flexibly incorporate the demands of both learner and instructor into the database itself.

MBL 활용 수업이 중학교 학생들의 과학탐구능력과 그래프 작성 및 해석능력에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of MBL-Used Instruction on Scientific Inquiry Skill and Graph Construction and Interpreting Abilities of Middle School Students)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 7학년 "해수의 성분과 운동" 단원에서 MBL 실험 수업이 학생들의 과학탐구능력과 그래프 작성 및 해석능력에 미치는 효과를 알아본 연구로 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 6차시에 걸쳐 MBL 수업을 실시하고 사후 t-검정을 통해 학생들의 과학탐구능력에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석하였다. 그 결과 실험집단과 통제집단 간 과학탐구 능력 결과에서 유의미한 차이가 나타나 MBL 수업이 학생들의 과학탐구능력 향상에 더 효과적임을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 사후 t-검정을 통해 학생들의 그래프 작성 및 해석능력에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석하였다. 그 결과 실험집단과 통제집단 간에 그래프 작성능력에서는 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았으나, 그래프 해석능력에서는 두 집단 간 유의미한 차이를 나타내고 있어 MBL을 활용한 수업이 학생들의 그래프 해석능력의 향상에 더 효과적임을 알 수 있었다.

  • 중소건설업체는 열악한 경영상태 전문인력 부족, 기술력 부족 등의 여러 문제로 인해 그 기반이 매우 취약하다. 이린 상황에서 IMF 이후 대형건설업체들의 수주난과 경영 악화는 대형건설업체의 하도급을 수행하는 중소건설업체에도 전가됐으며, 이에 중소건설업체의 생존을 위한 전반적인 변화와 정보기술 도입을 통한 경쟁력 확보가 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 중소건설업체의 프로젝트 관리방안 측면에서 중소건설업체의 특성과 기존 대형건설업체 및 상용 SI업체에서 개발한 정보관리 시스템을 분석하여 중소건설업체를 위한 프로젝트 정보관리체계를 구축하고 이를 관리하는 지원시스템 모델을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 통해 중소건설업체의 프로젝트 정보관리 능력을 향상 및 생산성 향상을 통한 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically confirm the effect of the characteristics of construction workers on the occurrence of defects in construction. In this study, the degree of direct construction is measured through the ratio of the direct recruitment and outsourcing manpower of the original contractor, and the effect of this on the occurrence of defects is empirically analyzed using financial data. In addition, it is verified whether the degree of defect occurrence varies depending on the job skill level of the direct hired personnel inputted to the construction. Through this, it will be possible to prepare an argument for revitalizing the direct construction of construction companies and an opportunity to promote it.

간호학생의 임상실습스트레스에 관한 인지적 인과구조모형 (The Perceived Causal Structure Model on Stress Experienced by Nursing Students during Clinical Practice)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence stress experienced by nursing students and to provide a perceived causal structure model among these variables. The ultimate goal of this study is to develop efficient guidance to clinical nursing education in this population. This study intends to apply perceived causal structure: network analysis method which was developed by Kelly(1983), and has been applied in nursing research. This method is selected to show dynamic relationship of stressor using network method. Data was collected from convenient sample of 186 junior college nursing students who had the clinical practice experience during 10 weeks. Data collection and analysis was conducted in 2 steps from December, 9, 2002 to February, 8, 2003. Step 1.: Data was collected using literature review(10 articles) to identify the causes of stress. Nine causes of stress were extracted. Step 2.: As perceived casual structure network study, data was collected using questionnaires which included 9 extracted cause and stress. The questionnaire contained a 10 X 10 grid table with 10 causes and effects printed. In network analysis, 'Yes' was scored as 1, 'No' was scored as 0, and the mean(maximum 1, minimum 0) was calculated. Construction of the network under inductive eliminative analysis which stopped the construction of the network when the consensual agreement level dropped near 50% was proceeded by adding causes in order of the mean rating level. In this study, construction of the final network was stopped by consensual agreement level of 52% of the total subjects. The results are summarized as follows : Step 1: Investigation of the causes of stress ; The extracted causes of stress from quality data was identified 9 categories ; negative nurse, lack of clinical practice opportunity, ambiguous role, negative patient, lack of nursing knowledge and skill, difficult of personal relations, inefficient clinical practice guidance, gap of theory and practice, lack of support. Step 2 : Construction of the perceived causal structure model ; 1) The most central cause of stress is ambiguous role in the systems of causation. 2) The distal cause of stress is inefficient clinical practice guidance 3) The causes that have a number of outgoing link are negative nurse, ambiguous role. 4) The causes that have a number of incoming link are ambiguous role, gap of theory- practice, lack of clinical practice opportunity, lack of nursing knowledge- skill. 5) There is a mutual relationship between stress and difficult of personal relations, stress and ambiguous role, ambiguous role and negative nurse, ambiguous role and lack of clinical practice opportunity, ambiguous role and lack of nursing knowledge-skill, lack of nursing knowledge-skill and gap of theory- practice. In conclusion, the network suggests that the first centre cause is related on ambiguous role and the second on negative nurse, inefficient clinical practice guidance in the systems of causation

CONSTRUCTION ERROR TYPES - THE EXECUTION STAGE OF DUBAI PROJECTS

  • Construction errors can have significant effects on project performance. Yet, any attempt to tackle error should be driven by the ability to understand its archetypal nature. This study aims to analyze a variety of construction errors at the execution stage, in order to develop a comprehensive set of categories that shall provide insights about the effect of different error types on the industry. We investigate a database provided by an authoritative source, which includes a number of 256 construction errors that occurred in the year 2009 in Dubai construction industry. Results from this study reveal that the most common error arose from 'poor workmanship' which accounted for 21% of the total encountered faults. The next most common types arose from the 'usage of impaired materials', followed by the 'deviation from an intended dimension'. These observations infer that the majority of construction errors are driven by workers' lack of skill or competence. Moreover, it suggests that execution-oriented errors are the major cause of faults and accidents rather than design errors.
