The deformations of polycrystalline materials are modelled by linking a constitutive equation for the crystallographic slip of a single crystal to the macroscopic behavior of the aggregate. In this study, anisotropic elasticity (lattice stretching) of a cubic crystal is incoporated into the anisotropic plasticity from crystallographic slip. The constitutive description for the aggregate, derived from a crystal plasticity theory, is used to formulate a Consistent Penalty Finite Element Method for the anisotropic elasto-viscoplastic deformation of polycrystalline materials. As an application, a plane-strain forging process is simulated and the effects of the initial textures on the deformation behavior of the workpiece are examined.

Concrete behaves as ductile material at high temperature. The existing stress-strain relationship is not valid at high temperature condition. Thus, stress-strain curve of concrete at high temperature is re-established by modifying Saenz's suggestion in this study. A constitutive model of concrete subjected to elevated temperature is also suggested. The model consists of three components; free thermal stain, mechanical strain and thermal creep strain. As the temperature increase, the thermal creep becomes more critical to the failure of concrete. The thermal creep strain of concrete is derived from the modified power-law relation for the steady state creep. The proposed equation for thermal creep employs a Dorn's temperature compensated time theorem
In this paper we recall briefly the constitutive equations for solids subjected to thermal strain taking in account the bounded tensile stress of the material. In view to solve the equilibrium problem via the finite element method using the Newton Raphson procedure, we show that the tangent elasticity tensor is semi-definite positive. Therefore, in order to obtain a convergent numerical method, the constitutive equation needs to be modified. Specifically, the dependency of the stress by the anelastic deformation is made explicit by means of a parameter ${\delta}$, varying from 0 to 1, that factorizes the elastic tensor. This parameterization, for ${\delta}$ near to 0, assures the positiveness of the tangent elasticity tensor and enforces the convergence of the numerical method. Some numerical examples are illustrated.
This paper presents applications of the objective stress rates to stress update algorithms for transient shell dynamic analysis within the context of explicit time integration. The hypo elasto-plastic materials are assumed in establishing constitutive equations. The derivation of the objective stress rates are investigated by use of the Lie derivative. Comparison results are given between the Kirchhoff and Cauchy stress formulation. The Jacobian determination algorithm proposed in this paper is presented in association with the Belytschko-Lin-Tsay shell theory. Several numerical examples are demonstrated including contact and non-contact examples, by which proposed algorithms are compared with respect to the accuracy and effectiveness.

When using finite element pogram ABAQUS to compute material characteristics, one builds a user material subroutine if unique constitutive feature needs to be included. In ABAQUS/Standard, UMAT subroutine should be built, and in ABAQUS/Explicit, VUMAT should be used. Although two subroutines carry out the same type of task, two different programs should be made depending on the working environment, and it is not easy to program the subroutines following the manual without enough understanding of solid mechanics. In this paper, difference between UMAT and VUMAT subroutines is epitomized, and a conversion scheme from UMAT to VUMAT is discussed. An example shows that the two programs give the same stress computation result.
We present finite element equations in the Laplace-domain for linear viscoelastic and viscoelstically damped structures governed by a constitutive equation involving factional order derivative opeartors. These equations yield a nonstandard eigenproblem consisted of frequency dependent stiffness matrix. To solve this nonstandard eigenproblem we suggest an eigenvalue iteration procedure in the Laplace-domain. Improved Zenor and GHM material function type constitutive equations in the Laplace-domain are also available for this procedure. From above equations, complex eigenvalues and complex eigenvectors are obtained. Using obtained eigenvalues and eigenvectors, time domain analysis is performed by means of mode superposition. Finally, finite element solutions of viscoelastic and viscoeleastically damped sandwich beam are presented as an example.

This paper discusses new capabilities developed for the Virtual Penetration Laboratory (VPL) software package to address the challenges of determining Penetration Resistance (PR) equations for concrete materials. Specifically, the paper introduces a three-invariant concrete constitutive model recently developed by the authors. The Advanced Fundamental Concrete (AFC) model was developed to provide a fast-running predictive model to simulate the behavior of concrete and other high-strength geologic materials. The Continuous Evolutionary Algorithms (CEA) automatic fitting algorithms used to fit the new model are discussed, and then examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new AFC model. Finally, the AFC model in conjunction with the VPL software package is used to develop a PR equation for a concrete material.
The densification behaviors of mixtures of copper and steel powders during cold die compaction were investigated. We proposed the pressure-dependent yield function based on the rule of the mixtures of each yield function of a critical relative density type. The constitutive equations were implemented into a finite element program (DEFORM2D) to analyze the densification and deformation behavior of powder mixtures, and the simulated results are in good agreement with the experimental results in reference studies.
In this paper, we study the response of several anisotropic systems to buried transient line loads. The problem is mathematically formulated based on the equations of motion in the constitutive relations. The load is in form of a normal stress acting with arbitrary axis on the plane of monoclinic symmetry. Plane wave equation is coupled with vertical shear wave, longitudinal wave and horizontal shear wave. We first considered the equation of motion in reference coordinate system, where the line load is coincident with symmetry axis of the orthotrioic material. Then the equation of motion is transformed with respect to general coordiante system with azimuthal angle by using transformation tensor. The load is first described as a body force in the equations of the motion for the infinite media and then it is mathematically characterized. Subsequently the results for semi-infinite spaces is also obtained by using superposition of the infinite medium solution together with a scattered solution from the free surface. Consequently explicit solutions for the displacements are obtained by using Cargniard-DeHoop contour. Numerical results which are drawn from concrete examples of orthotropic material belonging to monoclinic symmetry are demonstrated.

In an transversely isotropic composite laminates, the velocities, the particle directions and the amplitudes of reflected and transmitted waves were obtained using the equation of motion, the constitutive equation, and the displacement equation expressed by wave number and frequency Eigenvalue problem involving a velocity was solved by Snell's law. Finally, the results were confirmed by T300 Carbon fiber/5208 Epoxy materials. This approach could be applied to the detection of flaws in a transversely isotropic composite laminates by the water immersion C-scan procedure.
