Subcooled boiling under low pressure was numerically investigated using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The wall boiling model was used for simulating the subcooled boiling; this model requires sub-models consisting of bubble departure diameter, nucleation site density and bubble departure frequency. The CFD code CFX provides the default models based on experimental data. Because these models are mostly developed under high pressure conditions, it would not be predicted well in low pressure conditions. Thus in this study, CFD validation for subcooled boiling under low pressure was analyzed. The numerical results were compared with experimental data from published paper. Simulations were performed with mass flux ranging from 250 to $750kg/m^2s$, heat flux ranging from 0.37 to $0.77MW/m^2$ and constant outlet pressure of 0.11 MPa. Employing the empirical correlation developed under low pressures could increase the accuracy of numerical analysis.
Thermal shock resistance property has recently been considered to be one of the most important basic properties, in the same way that the transverse-rupture property is important for sintered hard materials such as ceramics, cemented carbides, and cermets. Attempts were made to evaluate the thermal shock resistance property of 10 vol% TaC added Ti(C,N)-Ni cermets using the infrared radiation heating method. The method uses a thin circular disk that is heated by infrared rays in the central area with a constant heat flux. The technique makes it possible to evaluate the thermal shock strength (Tss) and thermal shock fracture toughness (Tsf) directly from the electric powder charge and the time of fracture, despite the fact that Tss and Tsf consist of the thermal properties of the material tested. Tsf can be measured for a specimen with an edge notch, while Tss cannot be measured for specimens without such a notch. It was thought, however, that Tsf might depend on the radius of curvature of the edge notch. Using the Tsf data, Tss was calculated using a consideration of the stress concentration. The thermal shock resistance property of 10 vol% TaC added Ti(C,N)-Ni cermet increased with increases in the content of nitrogen and Ni. As a result, it was considered that Tss could be applied to an evaluation of the thermal shock resistance of cermets.

In this paper, we confirmed the thermal & optical properties for improving the heat transfer coefficient by changing the via hole size and in FR4 PCB with the same area. Osram 1W power LED Package (Golden Dragon) was used and the K-factor which is relative constant between LED junction temperature and forward bias was measured with power source meter(KEITHLEY 2430) to measure the thermal resistance from PCB configuration. As results, thermal resistance in metal PCB came out to the lowest as $26 [^{\circ}C/W]$ and thermal resistance in FR4 PCB without via-holes emerged as the highest as $69 [^{\circ}C/W]$. However thermal resistance of FR4 PCB could have decreased until $32[^{\circ}C/W]$ in 0.6 mm by using the via hole. Also, the luminous flux could have improved, too.

Peltier cells have low efficiency, but they are becoming attractive alternatives for affordable and environmentally clean cooling. In this line, the current article develops closed-form and semianalytical solutions to improve the temperature distribution of Bi2Te3 thermoelements. From the distribution, the main objective of the current work-the optimal electric intensity to maximize cooling-is inferred. The general one-dimensional differential coupled equation is integrated for linear and quadratic geometry of thermoelements, under temperature constant properties. For a general shape, a piece-wise solution based on heat flux continuity among virtual layers gives accurate analytical solutions. For variable properties, another piece-wise solution is developed but solved iteratively. Taking advantage of the formulae, the optimal intensity is directly derived with a minimal computational cost; its value will be of utility for more advanced designs. Finally, a parametric study including straight, two linear, barrel, hourglass and vase geometries is presented, drawing conclusions on how the shape of the thermoelement affects the coupled phenomena. A specially developed coupled and non-linear finite element research code is run taking into account all the materials of the cell and using symmetries and repetitions. These accurate results are used to validate the analytical ones.

The effect of the migration of nanoparticles near the wall of a channel on the convective heat transfer in a laminar flow of $SiO_2$ nanoparticle suspensions (nanofluids) under constant wall heat flux boundary conditions was numerically and experimentally investigated in this study. The dynamic thermal conductivity of the aqueous $SiO_2$ nanofluids was measured using T-type thermocouples attached to the outer surface of a stainless steel circular tube (with a length of 1 m and diameter of 1.75 mm). The nanofluids used in this study were synthesized by dispersing $SiO_2$ spherical nanoparticles with a diameter of 24 nm in de-ionized water (DIW). The enhancement of the thermal conductivity of the nanofluids (e.g., an increase of up to 7.9 %) was demonstrated by comparing the temperature profiles in the flow of the nanofluids with that in the flow of the basefluids (i.e., DIW). However, this trend was not demonstrated in the computational analysis, because the numerical models were based on continuum assumptions and flow features involving nanoparticles in a stable colloidal solution. Thus, to explore the non-continuum effects, such as the modification of the morphology caused by nanoparticle-wall interactions on the heat exchanging surfaces (e.g., the isolated and dispersed precipitation of the nanoparticles), additional experiments were performed using DIW right after the measurements using the nanofluids.
We compare insolation results calculated from two well-known empirical formulas (Socket and Beaudry's SB73 formula and the original Smithsonian (SMS) formula) and a radiative transfer model using input data predicted from meteorological weather-forecast models, and review the accuracy of each method. Comparison of annual mean daily irradiance values for clear-sky conditions between the two formulas shows that, relative to the SMS, the SB73 underestimates spring values by 9 W $m^{-2}$ in the northern Adriatic Sea, although overall there is a good agreement between the annual results calculated with the two formulas. We also elucidate the effect on SMS of changing the 'Sun-Earth distance factor (f)', a parameter which is commonly assumed to be constant in the oceanographic context. Results show that the mean daily solar radiation for clear-sky conditions in the northern Adriatic Sea can be reduced as much as 12 W $m^{-2}$ during summer due to a decrease in the f value. Lastly, surface irradiance values calculated from a simple radiative transfer model (GM02) for clear-sky conditions are compared to those from SB73 and SMS. Comparison with iu situ data in the northern Adriatic Sea shows that the GM02 estimate gives more realistic surface irradiance values than SMS, particularly during summer. Additionally, irradiance values calculated by GM02 using the buoy meteorological fields and ECMWF (The European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts) meteorological data show the suitability of the ECMWF data usage. Through tests of GM02 sensitivity to key regional meteorological factors, we explore the main factors contributing significantly to a reduction in summertime solar irradiance in the Adriatic Sea.
The notion of quasi-Einstein manifolds arose during the study of exact solutions of the Einstein field equations as well as during considerations of quasi-umbilical hypersurfaces. For instance, the Robertson-Walker spacetimes are quasi-Einstein manifolds. The object of the present paper is to study Lorentzian quasi-Einstein manifolds. Some basic geometric properties of such a manifold are obtained. The applications of Lorentzian quasi-Einstein manifolds to the general relativity and cosmology are investigated. Theories of gravitational collapse and models of Supernova explosions [5] are based on a relativistic fluid model for the star. In the theories of galaxy formation, relativistic fluid models have been used in order to describe the evolution of perturbations of the baryon and radiation components of the cosmic medium [32]. Theories of the structure and stability of neutron stars assume that the medium can be treated as a relativistic perfectly conducting magneto fluid. Theories of relativistic stars (which would be models for supermassive stars) are also based on relativistic fluid models. The problem of accretion onto a neutron star or a black hole is usually set in the framework of relativistic fluid models. Among others it is shown that a quasi-Einstein spacetime represents perfect fluid spacetime model in cosmology and consequently such a spacetime determines the final phase in the evolution of the universe. Finally the existence of such manifolds is ensured by several examples constructed from various well known geometric structures.

This paper presents 3D simulation by STAR-CCM+ for lean premixed combustion in a stationary gas turbine combustor with separate pilot and main nozzles. The constant for the source term in the flame area density transport equation was modified to account for a low global equivalence ratio and validated against measurement data. A Partially-premixed Coherent Flame Model(PCFM) involves propagation of a laminar premixed flame with the predicted flame surface density and equilibrium assumption in the burned gas with spatial inhomogeneity. The conditions for cooling by radiation and convection are considered for accurate determination of the heat flux on the wall. A parametric study is of the pilot-fuel-to-total-fuel-ratio is carried out. A chemical reactor network (CRN) was constructed on the basis of the 3D simulation results and compared against measurements of NOx.

A numerical method is presented which can solve the unsteady momentum and thermal boundary layers, coupled through the agency of buoyancy force, over a heated circular cylinder impulsively started from rest. By linearizing the nonlinear finite difference equations without sacrificing accuracy, numerical solutions are obtained at each time step without iteration. To get rid of the requirement of excessive number of grid points in the region of reversed flow, special form of transformed variables are used, by which the computational boundary layer thickness is maintained almost constant. These numerical properties enable the method to easily handle the region of reversed flow and how the singularity develops in the interior of the boundary layer. In order to investigated the thermal effects on the skin friction, heat flux, displacement thickness and on the separation, we have successfully solved three different cases of the buoyancy parameter .alpha.(Gr/Re$^{2}$).
Sintered LiF:Mg,Cu,Na,Si thermoluminescence (TL) pellets were developed for application in radiation dosimetry. In the present study, the TL dosimetric properties of LiF:Mg,Cu,Na,Si TL pellets have been investigated for emission spectrum, dose response, energy response, and fading characteristics. LiF:Mg,Cu,Na,Si TL pellets were made by using a sintering process, that is, pressing and heat treatment from TL powders. Photon irradiations for the experiments were carried out using X-ray beams and a $^{137}Cs$ gamma source at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). The average energies and the dose were in the range of 20-662 keV and $10^{-6}-10^{-2}\;Gy$, respectively. The glow curves were measured with a manual type TLD reader(System 310, Teledyne) at a constant nitrogen flux and a linear heating rate. For a constant heating rate of $5^{\circ}C\;s^{-1}$, the main dosimetric peak of glow curve appeared at $234^{\circ}C$, the activation energy was 2.34 eV and frequency factor was $1.00{\times}10^{23}$. TL emission spectrum is appeared at the blue region centered at 410 nm. A linearity of photon dose response was maintained up to 100 Gy. The photon energy responses relative to $^{137}Cs$ response were within ${\pm}20%$ at overall photon energy region. The fading of TL sensitivity of the pellets stored at the room temperature was not found for one year.
