A total of 365 adults in their 20s to 50s living in Daegu and the Kyungbuk area were selected considering their jobs and residences. SPSS PC+ 20.0 was used to analyze the data with frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability examination, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan-test, Scheffe-test, and ${\chi}^2-test$. The results of this study are shown as follows. First, 'Jogging/Walking' was found to be the most favorable activity in the examination of leisure sports activities among the participants and showed a difference in gender. Second, leisure activities were pastime-culture activity, sports activities, static activity, volunteering, and relaxing, and these activities were grouped into non-participant, active and passive leisure activities. Conspicuous consumption of leisure apparel was classified into personality oriented, luxury goods-oriented, and other people-oriented. Fourth, there was significance in the objective social stratum variable by the types of leisure activities. Significant differences were found in personality orientation, luxury goods-oriented, and other people-oriented in conspicuous consumption of leisure apparel by the types of leisure activities. Finally, there were significant differences in economic power, level of consumption, cultural level of subjective social stratum by gender, sports activities and volunteering in leisure activities, as well as other people-oriented conspicuous consumption of leisure apparel. This study also found significant differences in economic power, level of consumption and cultural level of social stratum by age, as well as other people-oriented conspicuous consumption of leisure apparel.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine conspicuous consuming tendency and imported-brand preferences based on purchasing behavior of clothing. 464 women living in Seoul were collected for this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range teats, and $X^2-test$ were used. As the result, five factors in conspicuous consumption are generated from the factor analysis. Consumers with high conspicuous consumption prefer imported-brand clothing. According to the levels of conspicuous consumption, purchasing behaviors of clothing are significantly different in information usages, clothing selection evaluations, patronage store types, purchasing frequencies, and seasonal clothing expenditure. • The smartphone is a necessary communication and productivity tool. Unlike other neutral, utilitarian technologies, smartphones are also a social display of wealth, i.e., of conspicuous consumption. Behavior around necessity and conspicuous goods are normally separate research tracks, and we can find no studies for technology products that exhibit both traits. We therefore propose a four-factor model that explains conspicuous consumption of "necessary" smartphones: dependency, social influence, the need for social connection, and convenience, in the United States, Mexico, and the Philippines. This paper provides confirmatory support for extant literature of the four constructs; it demonstrates the viability of the survey instrument across countries; and it shows similar effects among country models. Our structural model results imply the borderless nature of smartphone conspicuous consumption.

The results are as follows: 1. Conspicuous consumption was identified with three factors: symbol of position, pursuit of fashion brand/quality, keeping up appearance. Customers were segmented into two subdivisions of a lowly involved group with conspicuous consumption and a highly involved group with conspicuous consumption. 2. Clothing purchase motivations with collaborated fashion products were identified with two factors of esthetical value and reasonable ostentation. Selection criteria with collaborated fashion products were identified with the two factors of extrinsic attributes and intrinsic attributes. Customer satisfaction was identified with one factor. 3. Highly involved group toward conspicuous consumptionpursued more into esthetics value, reasonable ostentation and considered more into extrinsic attributes through collaborated fashion products than the lowly involved groups. Customer satisfaction of a highly involved group toward conspicuous consumption was higher than the lowly involved group. 4. The symbol of position had a positive relationship and the keeping up appearance had a negative relationship in regards to both the relevance of conspicuous consumption and the clothing purchase motivations, selection criteria, and customer satisfaction of collaborated fashion products.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in adolescents' conspicuous consumption, and their attitude toward and purchasing behaviors for the imported luxuries and the famous brand clothing. A questionnaire survey was conducted to 570 high school students in Seoul; 538 were used for final data analysis. Factor analysis, cluster analysis, $\chi$$^2$-analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range test were used for the statistical analyses. In terms of conspicuous consumption, three factors were formulated: brand and fashion orientation, others orientations, and prize and import orientation. Based on the factor scores, three clusters were identified: the inconspicuous, the others-oriented conspicuous, and the brand-oriented conspicuous. Regarding attitudes toward the products, significant differences were found in all attitudes. The brand-oriented conspicuous showed more favorable attitude toward the products than the other groups. Significant differences were also found in purchasing behaviors except the companions for shopping and purchase time. The brand-oriented conspicuous tended to purchase more, spend more money, prefer department stores, consider brand name and customer service as the most important criteria, and use impersonal informations sources when shopping the products. The other-oriented conspicuous tended to buy bogus products the most, use personal information and consider price and others' perception as important criteria. The inconspicuous were less likely to buy and spend money for the products.
