The purpose of this paper is to propose the way of computing conduction time series factors (CTSF) using numerical method. After the accuracy of the numerical solution procedure being verified, the method is applied to the wall type 24 and roof type 14 of ASHARE to find the conduction time series coefficients, so called conduction time series factors. The results agree well with the values presented in the ASHRAE handbook. The method proposed can be easily applied to find unknown CTSF for more complex structures. It provides information about the temperature changes at a given location and time, thus validity of generated CTSF can be checked easily.
Critical conduction mode boost power factor correction converters operating at the boundary of continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode have been widely used for power applications lower than 300W. This paper proposes an enhanced variable on-time control method for the critical conduction mode boost PFC converter to improve the total harmonic distortion characteristic. The inductor current, which varies according to the input voltage, is analyzed in detail and the optimal on-time is obtained to minimize the total harmonic distortion with a digital controller using a TMS320F28335. The switch on-time varies according to the input voltage based on the computed optimal on-time. The performance of the proposed control method is verified by a 100W PFC converter. It is shown that the optimized on-time reduces the total harmonic distortion about 52% (from 10.48% to 5.5%) at 220V when compared to the variable on-time control method.

In most engineering applications related with the heat conduction phenomena, a conventional Fourier heat conduction equation has been successfully applied and it has supplied quite reasonable results. However, it is well known that the Fourier heat conduction equation is failed in the application to the extremely small space and short time, in other words, a nano-scale system and a pico-second time. In this study, non-Fourier effect was evaluated in the heat conduction by considering the concept of a phase lag model. The results show the existence of a heat wave, which means that the heat is transferred with a finite speed while an infinite speed of heat transfer is assumed in the conventional Fourier heat conduction. In addition, the copper and the gold are tested to evaluate the phase lag time between the heat flux and the temperature gradient. The results show that the gold has the heat wave speed faster than that of the copper consistent with the prediction based on an actual experiment.
A measurement of conduction veloctiy of the action potentials along the muscle fibres has been applied to various diagnosis. When we measure muscle fiber conduction velocity, it occurs that not only change of conduction velocity but alos inclusion of mipulse component by physiological and experimental reason. So, robuster time delay estimation algorithm than general methods[1] is needed to find correct time delay form these signals. In this paper we, propose new time delay estimation algorithms, robust in impulsive noise, by using characteristic of .alpha.-stable distribution whcih defines impulsive noise well. Then we apply proposed algorthms to measure muscle fiber conduction velocity and compare them with other studies.

The heat conduction equation, a type of a Poisson equation which can be applied in various areas of engineering is calculating its value with the iteration method in general. The equation which had difference discretization of the heat conduction equation is the simultaneous equation, and each line has the characteristic of expressing in sparse matrix of the equivalent number of none-zero elements with neighboring grids. In this paper, we propose a data structure for sparse matrix that can calculate the value faster with less memory use calculate the heat conduction equation. To verify whether the proposed data structure efficiently calculates the value compared to the other sparse matrix representations, we apply the representative iteration method, CG (Conjugate Gradient), and presents experiment results of time consumed to get values, calculation time of each step and relevant time consumption ratio, and memory usage amount. The results of this experiment could be used to estimate main elements of calculating the value of the general heat conduction equation, such as time consumed, the memory usage amount.
The wave nature of heat conduction has been developed in situations involving extreme thermal gradients, very short times, or temperatures near absolute zero. Under the excitation of a periodic surface heating in a finite medium, the hyperbolic and parabolic heat conduction equations and the damped wave equations in heat flux are presented for comparative analysis by using the Green's function with the integral transform technique. The Kummer transformation is also utilized to accelerate the rate of convergence of these solutions. On the other hand, the temperature distributions are obtained through integration of the energy conservation law with respect to time. For hyperbolic heat conduction, the heat flux distribution does not exist throughout all the region in a finite medium within the range of very short times(${\xi}<{\eta}_l$). It is shown that due to the thermal relaxation time, the hyperbolic heat conduction equation has thermal wave characteristics as the damped wave equation has wave nature.
The time-stepping boundary element method has been so far applied by the authors to transient heat conduction in isotropic solids as well as in orthotropic solids. In this paper, attempt is made to extend the method to 2-D transient heat conduction in arbitrarily anisotropic solids. The resulting boundary integral equation is discretized by means of the boundary element with quadratic interpolation. The final system of equations thus obtained is solved by advancing the time step from the given initial state to the final state. Through numerical compuation of a few examples the potential usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated.

In this study, discrete-time domain analysis is proposed to investigate the input current of a buck AC/DC light-emitting diode (LED) driver. The buck power factor correction converter can operate in both discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and continuous conduction mode (CCM). Two discontinuous and two continuous conduction operating modes are possible depending on which event terminates the conduction of the main switch in a switching cycle. All four operating modes are considered in the discrete-time domain analysis. The peak current-mode control with slope compensation is used to design a low-cost AC/DC LED driver. A slope compensation design of the buck AC/DC LED driver is described on the basis of a discrete-time domain analysis. Experimental results are presented to confirm the usefulness of the proposed analysis.

A superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system has shorter response time and longer life time, and is more economical, and environment-friendly than other uninterruptible power supply (UPS). A conduction cooling system is well answer for the high temperature superconductor (HTS) SMES system. Because the conduction cooling system is simple, light and small structure. The purpose of this paper is to design and verify the effective conduction cooling system for the HTS SMES system. The analysis of heat loads in cryostat is performed. Thermal shield heat loads, temperatures of HTS coil surface and conduction Cu plate are estimated and measured.
In a one-dimensional heat conduction domain with heated and insulated walls, an integral approach is proposed to estimate time-dependent boundary heat flux without internal measurements. It is assumed that the expression of the heat flux is not known a priori. Hence, the present inverse heat conduction problem is classified as a function estimation problem. The spatial temperature distribution is approximated as a third-order polynomial of position, whose four coefficients are determined from the heat fluxes and the temperatures at both ends at each measurement. After integrating the heat conduction equation over spatial and time domain, respectively, a simple and non-iterative recursive equation to estimate the time-dependent boundary heat flux is derived. Several examples are introduced to show the effectiveness of the present approach.
