  • Vehicle Inspection System is to examine the condition of vehicle regularly at the national level to protect lives and properties of the people from traffic accidents due to vehicle's fault. However, the vehicle inspection method, criteria, period and effectiveness have become a controversial issue, because of examining safety management of vehicle by drivers regardless of regular vehicle inspection. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate vehicle inspection timeliness and risk level of inspection items through basic statistical survey and portfolio analysis. The results of the research through practical analysis are: (1) The inspection failure rates between 3 and 6 model year tend to increase. (2) The failure of inspection items for safety highly impacts on traffic accident rate in terms of accident risks. (3) According to the result of portfolio analysis, faulty items located 1st quadrant are riding device, driveline system, controlling device, steering actuator, and fuel system.

  • An expected-discounted cost model based on RRP(Renewal Reward Process), referred to as a stochastic decision model, has been developed to estimate the optimal period of in-depth inspection which is one of critical issues in the life-cycle maintenance management of harbor structures such as rubble-mound breakwaters. A mathematical model, which is a function of the probability distribution of the service-life, has been formulated by simultaneously adopting PIM(Periodic Inspection and Maintenance) and CBIM(Condition-Based Inspection and Maintenance) policies so as to resolve limitations of other models, also all the costs in the model associated with monitoring and repair have been discounted with time. From both an analytical solution derived in this paper under the condition in which a failure rate function is a constant and the sensitivity analyses for the variety of different distribution functions and conditions, it has been confirmed that the present solution is more versatile than the existing solution suggested in a very simplified setting. Additionally, even in that case which the probability distribution of the service-life is estimated through the stochastic process, the present model is of course also well suited to interpret the nonlinearity of deterioration process. In particular, a MCS(Monte-Carlo Simulation)-based sample path method has been used to evaluate the parameters of a damage intensity function in stochastic process. Finally, the present stochastic decision model can satisfactorily be applied to armor units of rubble mound breakwaters. The optimal periods of in-depth inspection of rubble-mound breakwaters can be determined by minimizing the expected total cost rate with respect to the behavioral feature of damage process, the level of serviceability limit, and the consequence of that structure.

  • For producing iron or steel products with good quality, the concentration of the material components should be analyzed quickly with high relability using XRF(Fluorescent X-Ray Spectrometer). Since the analysis results are much dependent upon the surface con- dition, the samples have to be prepared to have good test condition. This study presents an image processing system for inspecting the surface condition of the iron test sample. In order to use thd computer vision system, we need to develop a lighting device and image processing algorithm. For the adequate lighting device of inspection system, the indirect lighting device is contrived to cut the external light and provide uniform, stable and cold light. The image processing algorithm is aimed to reduce inspection time and to get similar analyzing results to those of the experienced operators. At first, the image processing algorithm checks whether the surface of the iron sample is ground well or not. Then, the defects; hole or dig are conted and surface condition is evaluated. In addition, the algorithm gives the reliability of the analyzing results in order to help operator's decision.

  • The inspection of cracks on the surface of tunnel linings is a common method of evaluate the condition of the tunnel. In particular, determining the thickness and shape of a crack is important because it indicates the external forces applied to the tunnel and the current condition of the concrete structure. Recently, several automatic crack detection methods have been proposed to identify cracks using captured tunnel lining images. These methods apply an image-segmentation mechanism with well-annotated datasets. However, generating the ground truths requires many resources, and the small proportion of cracks in the images cause a class-imbalance problem. A weakly annotated dataset is generated to reduce resource consumption and avoid the class-imbalance problem. However, the use of the dataset results in a large number of false positives and requires post-processing for accurate crack detection. To overcome these issues, we propose a crack detection method using a ternary classifier. The proposed method significantly reduces the false positive rate, and the performance (as measured by the F1 score) is improved by 0.33 compared to previous methods. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In the examination of Steam Generator (SG) tube in Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Eddy Current Testing (ECT) probes play an Important role in detecting the defects. Bobbin probe and Rotating Pancake Coil (RPC) probe is usually used for the inspection of SG tube. Bobbin probe is good at high speed inspection, but ability of detection of circumferential defect is very weak. On the contrary RPC probe, which moves for inspection in the direction of axial and circumferential simultaneously, has very slow inspection speed, but it was excellent detection capability fur small cracks, which is hardly detected by bobbin probe. Many examinations of SG tube examination of NPP are achieved during short period. Therefore, solution about this must develop probe of new form for examination performance and examination time shortening of other probe. In this paper, analyzed technological present condition of Bob-bin probe and RPC probe been using in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) for SG tube defect detection and Appeared about background theory and view of developed probe newly.

  • The relations between data from test methods and conditions in structural elements are considered. NDE(Nondestructive Evaluation) methods are joint application of a test and a basis for interpretation of data obtained in the test. Correct assessments of conditions of elements depend on the inaccuracy and variability in the test data and on the uncertainty of correlations between attributes(what is measured) and conditions(what is sought in the inspection). A full description of the performance of NDE methods considers the relation of test data to condition of elements. The quality of the test data itself is important, but equally important is the interpretation that occurs after the test. To make the decision of the performance of NDE methods, this paper presents mathematical basis to measure the reliability of NDE methods.
