Lubrication Characteristics of Condensed Water Molecules at Solid Surface through Molecular Simulation (고체표면에 응축된 물 분자의 윤활특성에 대한 분자시뮬레이션 연구)

  • This paper presents a numerical analysis of the lubrication characteristics of condensed water molecules on a solid surface by conducting molecular dynamics simulations. We examine two models consisting of a simple hexahedral substrate with and without water molecules to reveal the lubrication mechanism of mono-layered water molecules. We perform a sliding simulation by contacting and translating a single asperity on the substrate under various normal loads. During the simulation, we measure the friction coefficient and atomic stress. When water molecules were interleaved between solid surfaces, atomic stress exerted on individual atom and friction coefficient were smaller than those of model without water molecule. Particularly, at a low load, the efficacy of water molecules in the reduction of atomic stress and friction is remarkable. Conversely, at high loads, water molecules rarely lubricate solid surfaces and fail to effectively distribute the contact stress. We found a critical condition in which the lubrication regime changes and beyond the condition, significant plastic deformation was created. Consequently, we deduce that water molecules can distribute and reduce contact stress within a certain condition. The reduced contact stress prevents plastic deformation of the substrate and thus diminishes the mechanical interlocking between the asperity and the substrate.

Development of a Drain-Type Electronic Dehumidifier Using Thermoelectric Element (열전소자를 이용한 배수형 전자제습기 개발)

  • In this study, the Peltier effect was applied to eliminate moistures in the air enclosed by a cabinet. We have developed the new electronic dehumidifier which has a new function of automatically evaporating the condensed water inner cabinet into the outside air. To obtain this function, the processes of dehumidification is that it condensed the moistures on the cold side heat sink and drained it into the hot side heat sink by the both gravitational and capillary forces and the droplets on the hot side heat sink surface was evaporated into the air outside the cabinet by the heat conducted through the hot side heat sink surface and the forced heat convection through the fan for cooling hot side heat sink. Compared to existing electronic dehumidifiers, this manufactured one showed a good performance that the electric power consumption for the same dehumidifying quantity was reduced by 50% compared with that of existing ones.

Effects of Condensed Phosphates on the Quality and Self-life of Wet Noodle (중합인산염이 생면의 품질 및 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was investigated the effects of condensed phosphates (pyrophosphate, metaphosphate and polyphosphate) on the quality and self-life of wet noodle. The initial pasting temperatures were increased by the addition of pyrophosphate and metaphosphate, respectively, whereas those of propylene glycol and polyphosphate were decreased. Pyrophosphate showed the highest final viscosity, whereas metaphosphate showed the lowest. Setback of PG, polyphosphate, pyrophosphate and metaphosphate were all lower than the control. The water absorption ratios of PG and polyphosphate were increased compared to the control, whereas those of pyrophosphate and metaphosphate were decreased. The volume expansion ratios of PG and polyphosphate were slightly increased. Turbidities of PG and polyphosphate were lower than those of the control, whereas those of pyrophosphate and metaphosphate were increased in cooked noodles. The bacterial counts of wet noodles made with PG, polyphosphate, metaphosphate and pyrophosphate were all lower than those of the control after storage at 5$^{\circ}C$.

  • When combustion gas is cooled down below the dew point of sulfuric acid vapor in the heat recovery systems, condensation occurs. Since the condensed sulfuric acid solution causes low-temperature corrosion in materials, it is important to measure the SOx dew point by electric measurement. In this study, two kinds of probes having electric gaps of 1mm or 2mm were used. and experiments were carried out by the parameters of sulfuric acid vapor and water vapor concentration. The changes of electric current caused by sulfuric acid condensed on the surface of probe according to the cooling rate and the probe head surface temperature were sudied. The opimum cooling rate was decreased with the increasing of water vaper concentration regardless of sulfuric acid concentration. The sensitivity of electric current is improved for the narrower gap(1mm) of ring electrodes, but it rarely affects the SOx dew point measuring of different probes according to the change of cooling rate.

  • Uncomfortable odor emitted from air conditioning system is the main cause of indoor air quality deterioration. To solve evaporator odor problems, odor active compounds, have to be identified then the quality of the product can be improved its quality. Because evaporator odor in exhaust gas has low odor intensity and discontinuity, it is very difficult to collect and analyze sample. In this study through the identification of odor compounds in condensed water, the evaluation of the eraporator was tested. Odor compounds were extracted from water by headspace-solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) method. The single odor was separated by GC/FID/Olfactometry (GC/FID/O) and odor active compounds were identified by GC/AED and GC/MS. Compared to air sample, result of sensory evaluation and the single odor compound appeared similarly. It was identified that odor active compounds have functional group containing oxygen such as alcohols and acids. Evaluation method of odor active compounds using condensed water in evaporator appeared effective on the side of simplicity of collection, low expanse and rapid analysis.

Effects of Condensed Sodium Phosphates as a Degumming Aid Reagent for Raw Silk Fabric (견의 정연조제로서 축합인산염의 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The effects of sodium pyrophosphate, sodium tripolyphosposphate and ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid as a degumming aid reagent were investigated under the conditions of underground water and dimineralized water for the scouring water sources. The changes of water qualities by adding the condensed sodium phosphates and the physical properties of scoured silk fabric were examined, respectively. 1. The water hardness of underground water was decreased by adding the condensed sodium phosphates and it was further reduced according to the increasing temperature. The water hardness reducing power of sodium pyrophosphate was a little stronger than that of sodium tripolyphosphate. 2. The sodium silicate as an alkaline reagant for scouring decreased the water hardness, but the sodium carbonate increased it in the underground water. 3. The pH value of 0.4% soap and 0.25% sodium silicate mixed solution after boiling was. 9.80, but it was leveled upto 9.90 by adding 0.05% sodium pyrophosphate and upto 9.95 by 0.02% ehtylene diamine tetraacetic acid, respectively. 4. The masking action of Fe$\^$3+/ ions dissolved in the scouring water was more remarkable by ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid than by the condensed sodium phosphates. Of the condensations, sodium tripolyphosphate was more effective than sodium pyrophosphate in the action. 5. Genrally, the dimineralized water scouring increased the boil-off ratio with reducing the flexural rigidity of fabric which was negatively related with the favorablility of hand-touch more than the underground one did. 6. Under the underground water scouring, the addition of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid increased the boil-of ratio and compressive elasticity of fabric with reducing the flexural rigidity more than that of the condensed sodium phosphates did. 7 The additions of sodium tripolyphosphate and ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid reduced the flexural rigidity of fabric with raising the boil-off ratio even in the dimineralized water scouring, but there was no sifnificant difference between both of them.

Assessing Density Functional Theories to Compute the OH Stretching Frequencies of Water Molecules in Condensed Phases (응축상 물 분자의 OH 수축 진동수 계산을 위한 전자밀도 범함수 비교)

  • We evaluate electron density functional theories for the computation of 0-1 and 1-2 transition energies of local OH stretching motion of water molecules in condensed phases. By examining thirteen density functionals and nine sets of basis functions, it was found that the optimal combination that predicts the transition energies highly correlated with those calculated by the coupled cluster theory, CCSD(T), is the hybrid density functional theory developed by Head-Gordon group, ωB97X(D)/6-31+G*.

Relative Effectiveness of Replacement Diets for Mass Production of the Brackish Water Flea Diaphanosoma celebensis (기수산 물벼룩(Diaphanosoma celebensis)의 대량생산을 위한 대체 먹이원의 효과)

  • This study examined the effect of formulated diets (composed of condensed freshwater $Chlorella$ or $Schizochytrium$ sp., $Crypthecodinium$ sp., and EPA oil sources derived from baker's yeast) on the population growth and fatty acid composition of the brackish water flea ($Diaphanosoma$ $celebensis$) to determine diet effectiveness for mass production. Results indicated that the highest maximum density, fecundity, and population specific growth rate (SGR) of the flea were observed using a diet of $Tetraselmis$ $suecica$ (control). However, results using condensed freshwater $Chlorella$ and the mixed treatment of $Schizochytrium$ sp.+$Crypthecodinium$ sp.+EPA oil did not significantly differ from the control treatment ($P$>0.05). Thus, $T.$ $suecica$ could be replaced with a combination diet of $Schizochytrium$ sp., $Crypthecodinium$ sp., and EPA oil in condensed freshwater $Chlorella$ without growth interruption of $D.$ $celebensis$. As the percentage of combination diet (mix of $Schizochytrium$ sp., $Crypthecodinium$ sp., and EPA oil) in condensed freshwater $Chlorella$ increased, the level of ARA, EPA, DHA, and n-3 HUFA in $D.$ $celebensis$ also increased. However, the population density of $D.$ $celebensis$ sharply decreased with the use of treated supplements C5M5 (CHL [50%] and $Crypthecodinium$ sp.+ $Schizochytrium$ sp. + EPA oil [MIX 50%]). The optimum proportions of CHL and MIX for $D.$ $celebensis$ within the mixture were 70% and 30%, respectively. Based on the results, the combination of $Schizochytrium$ sp., $Crypthecodinium$ sp., and EPA oil in condensed freshwater $Chlorella$ appears to be a stable and effective food source for mass production of $D.$ $celebensis$.

Change of fatty acid compositions of rotifer according to enrichment diets and methods in the high density culture (고밀도 배양에 있어서 영양강화 방법 및 종류에 따른 rotifer의 지방산 조성의 변화)

  • This study was carried out to compare the growth and fatty acids composition of the rotifer (Brachionus rotundiformis) cultured in high density by the various enrichments and culture methods. The rotifer fed on condensed freshwater Chlorella was enriched with $\omega$-yeast, Algamac, Super Selco and marine Chlorella. In another culture method, the rotifer was cultured with enrichment supplements for 6 hours after feeding with condensed freshwater Chlorella supplement for 18 hour. The rotifer fed with condensed marine Chlorella for 24 hours without fieshwater Chlorella was used as a control group. Culture tanks (5 $\ell$ working volume) was immersed in a water bath ($28^{\circ}C$). The density of rotifer and dissolved oxygen level in water was stable in control group of rotifer cultured with condensed marine Chlorella for 24 hours and the n-3 HUFA content of rotifer was the highest among the rotifer culture methods. However, the density of rotifer and dissolved oxygen level in the groups of rotifers enriched with $\omega$-yeast, Algamac and Super Selco by methods were drastically decreased, The n-3 HUFA contents of rotifers enriched by Super Selco were higher than those of rotifer enriched by either $\omega$-yeast or Algamac in both methods. The results from this experiment indicated that supplementation of condensed marine Chlorella for 24 hour by the semi-continuous culture was effective for the improvement of the nutritional value of rotifer and it could provide the stable growth condition for rotifer culture in high density.
