  • Very stiff floor system in a residential-commercial building causes some problems in the numerical analysis procedure due to significant difference in stiffness with adjacent structural elements. Static analysis of structure with a stiff transfer-floor can be peformed approximately in two steps for upper and lower pons for the structure. However, it is impossible to perform dynamic analysis in two steps with separate models. An efficient method for dynamic analysis of a structure with a rigid floor system is proposed in this study. The matrix condensation technique is employed to reduce the degree of freedom for upper and lower parts of the structure and a beam elements with rigid bodies of both ends are introduce to model the rigid floor system. Efficiency end accuracy of the proposed method ore verified through analysis of several example structures.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of the thermal environment created by the cooling system at the apartment that combines the forced convection cooling(the system reducing humidity from room) with the floor cooling radiation which uses the floor panel from floor heating system, a general residential heating system in Korea. In this study, the combined cooling system in which air supply, spurt temperature difference and interior draft are reduced, is compared with the existing forced convection cooling system. To identify the effect of the comparison concretely, a comparative experiment is carried out on tour conditions, ie, convection cooling, floor radiation convection cooling and floor radiation cooling. Through it the characteristical thermal environment formed within the model room is analyzed, and the conveying system of compressed floor chill and condensation problem are reviewed.

  • The air and refrigerant side heat transfer performances are key parameters to improve heat transfer efficiency of the heat exchanger including the fan performance. Design of the fins, treatment of the tube inside, tube diameter and tube array effect heat transfer performance of the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is used as a condenser at cooling mode and used as an evaporator at heating mode in the heat pump system. The heat pump system uses R410A as the refrigerant. The heat exchangers are consisted with 7 mm diameter tubes with slit-type fins. The study was conducted with variation of arrangement of the refrigerant path and air flow rate and refrigerant pressure drop and heat transfer rate were measured with a code tester. The capacity of the 3 path heat exchanger is more efficient than 2 or 4 path heat exchangers in heating or cooling modes.

  • Elastomeric Flexible Cellular Insulation is widely used in construction fields to prevent condensation and frozen pipes, reduce energy, and improve insulation. However, when Elastomeric Flexible Cellular Insulation has been installed in buildings in Korea, there was no standardization, which resulted in heat loss Therefore, insulation design standards need to be developed and from these standards, pipe insulation should be improved to increase its efficiency. This study estimates temperature and surface-emissivity according to the thickness of insulation to evaluate thermal performance.

  • We present an efficient and new preparative method for the symmetric ${\beta}$-diketimines assisted by microwave. A series of N,N'-symmetrically alkyl substituted ${\beta}$-diketimines have been synthesized from the reaction of O-acylation with dimethylsulfate. Higher reproducibility and yield, lower cost and much improved green nature originated from no solvent condition and higher energy efficiency due to faster reaction time are major merits of this new method. In addition to these merits, almost every kind of ${\beta}$-diketimines including alkyl-substituted ${\beta}$-diketimines little reported yet has been successfully prepared. Much wider applications of these compounds in various fields are expected.

  • The three dimensional analysis of Framed-Tube structures is neither easy nor efficient because of longer computational time, large memory requirement, tedious input preparation and bulky output. An efficient analysis model for framed-tube structure is proposed in this study. The proposed model can save the computational effort by using the assumption of the rigid floor diaphragm effect and matrix condensation technique. Moreover, it is develpoed by assembling two dimensional frames using the link degrees of freedom which are temporary used to satisfy the vertical displacement compatibility at the corners of a framed-tube. The accuracy and the efficiency of this analytical model is established by comparing with the results using the computer code SAPIV which is based on the three dimensional finite element model.

  • An experiment was performed to describe the heat and mass transfer occurring between hot waste gas and cold water through direct contact in a direct contact heat exchanger. This model was then used to obtain an equation of overall heat transfer coefficent based on heat exchanger volume. The diffusion heat transfer rate is 2-3 times larger than the convection heat transfer rate as results of condensation of the water vapor contained in the waste gas. The boiler efficiency increases over 10%.

  • The nonlinear vibration of the thin perforated plate is analyzed in consideration of the V-shaped tension distribution and the effect of wire impact damping. The reduced order FEM model of the tension plate is obtained from dynamic condensation for the mass and stiffness matrices. Tension wire is modeled using the lumped parameter method to effectively describe its contact interactions with the plate. The nonlinear contact-impact model is composed of spring and damper elements, of which parameters are determined from the Hertzian contact theory and the restitution coefficient, respectively. From the evaluation of the computational accuracy and computation time for the deduced impact stiffness and damping coefficient, we determined proper values for the simulation works, accounting for the computational accuracy as well as the computational efficiency. Finally we discussed the results of nonlinear nitration analysis for variations of their design parameters.

  • A Construction of pipe line foundation and railroad, buildings in a permafrost area requires engineering technology of ground stabilization. In the permafrost area, thermal siphons have been used to stabilize foundation by eliminating the heat of ground to the air. the thermal siphon is a passive heat transfer device that operates by convection through vaporization and condensation. The heat transfer from ground to the air is driven by a temperature difference across the unit. A buried part in ground working as vaporizing function and upper part work as condensing. In this study, buried thermal siphon around the pipe lines laid in the Vladivostok site and measuring temperature variation. It is found that the thermal siphons freezing ground faster and decrease temperature variation in winter season.

  • Distributed processing approach for structural optimization is presented in this study. It is implemented on network of personal computers. The validity and efficiency of this approach are demonstrated and verified by test model of truss. Repeated structural analysis algorithm, which spend a lot of overall structural optimization processes, are based on substructuring scheme with domain-wise parallelism and converted to be adapted to hardware and software environments. The design information data are modularized and assigned to each computer in order to minize the communication cost. The communications between nodes are limited to static condensation and constraint-related data collection.
