  • We have developed and applied the super high early strength concrete overlay pavements for repairing asphalts pavements within 24hours. This pavements repairing method by the super high early strength concrete have already applied in U.S.A, japan, England, etc. The super high early strength concrete developed by Ssangyong cement co. for repairing pavements speedily have replaced at No. 2, 17 pavements in managing by Sunchoen national pavements management office. In the results, all of works have finished within 16~24hours after intercepting traffics and all of traffics was opened to be hamonious. In present, this pavements is sound and strong

  • The planar effects on the concrete pavements Is mainly due to the concrete shrinkage, subgrade friction, and thermal expansion or contraction. A complete understanding of analytical behavior of concrete pavement requires the development of computer model, stiffness matrix and equivalent nodal load matrices due to the effects mentioned above. A computer program, INPLANE II, has been written to evaluate the planar effects on concrete pavements. The planar effects determine to what degree the joint open and also help In determining factors which affect the joint stiffnesses and structural behavior of concrete Pavements.

  • PURPOSES: In this study, flood mitigation effect of drainage asphalt concrete pavement were analyzed by a SWMM 5.0 program in order to evaluate the low impact development (LID) based on the drainage asphalt concrete pavements. METHODS: In order to determine the porosity parameters of drainage asphalt concretes, the specimen mixtures were manufactured using the conditions presented in the previous study. The numerical simulation was conducted using the SWMM 5.0 program considering the flood mitigation effect of drainage asphalt concrete pavements. The effect of flood reduction can be observed when drainage asphalt concrete pavements were applied to Mokgamcheon watershed. The flood mitigation effect analysis of Mokgamcheon watershed as well as continuous simulation of subwatershed runoff were performed through this study. RESULTS : The analysis of drainage asphalt concrete pavements was carried out for evaluating the effect on runoff, resulting in: the peak flow decreases up to 1.26~9.53% after drainage asphalt concrete pavements applied in the SWMM 5.0 program furthermore, the discharge decreases up to 0.55~4.11%. CONCLUSIONS: As a result, the reduced peak flow and discharge were found through the SWMM 5.0 program. It can be concluded that the flood is effectively reduced when the drainage asphalt concrete pavements are used.

  • Deterioration of pavements or tunnels primarily from the existence of voids under the pavements or tunnel linings. To detect these voids effectively by non-destructive testes, a method using radar was proposed. In this research, the detection of shape of voids by radar image processing is investigate. The experiments and simulation were conducted to detect voids in or under concrete pavements for tunnel linings) with reinforcing bars. From the results, the fundamental algorithm for tracing the voids, improving the horizontal resolution of the object image and detecting shape of objects, was verified.

  • The use of concrete pavements is increasing by virtue of durability and excellent load resisting capacity. But cracks and demage in concrete pavements may be occurred by continuous reciclic load, as time goes by. Therefore, transverser contraction joints are constructed in concrete pavements to relieve tensile stresses, and when properly spaced they control the location of transverse cracks.

  • The traffic noise from automobiles have been causing so serious problems in urban areas that the study and solutions to reduce noise and air pollution have been required. In general, Portland cement concrete(PCC) pavements have the advantage of durability and superior surface friction when compared to most dense-graded asphalt. However, data collected to date generally show PCC pavements to create more noise than asphaltic surfaces. Therefore, recent research has shown some new concrete pavement textures to be worth further examination. Exposed Aggregate Pavements have also been evaluated for noise impacts. This PCC surface is accomplished by brushing the surface of the plastic concrete to expose the aggregate, increasing the macro texture. In this study, in order to manufacture Aggregate Exposed Concrete for low noise pavements, we considered the effects of retarder agents according to dosage and curing conditions. So we tried to find out relationship between textures of surface and effects of retarder.

  • Noise has become an environmental pollution that affects most peoples' health, comfort or general well being. there are many sources of noise, but one of them clearly dominates road traffic noise. It has traditionally been associated with engine and exhaust noise of vehicles. However the emission and propagation of noise from these sources were partly reduced, while at the same time the noise emission from the tire/road interaction on a relative scale became more and more prominent Generally, Portland cement concrete(PCC) pavements have the advantage of durability and superior surface friction when compared to most dense-graded asphalt. However, It is known that PCC pavements create more noise than asphaltic surfaces due to the noise from interaction of tire and pavement surface. Therefore, recent research has shown some new concrete pavement textures to be worth further examination. So in this paper, we considered the 9 types of low noise concrete pavements to evaluate tire/pavement noise.

  • Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) pavements have the advantage of durability and superior surface friction when compared to most dense-graded asphalt. However, data collected to date generally show PCC pavements to create more noise than asphaltic surfaces. As the results of research, surfaces of exposed aggregate, tining and grooving concrete pavements appear to provide better noise quality characteristics as well as good frictional characteristics and durability. In this paper, several methods of texturing were considered to reduce tire/pavement noise. As the results of this paper, PCC pavements with special texturing have superior surface friction as well as noise reductions when compared to conventional PCC pavement. Especially, Exposed Aggregate Concrete (EAC) surface appears to provide better noise quality characteristics. Conclusively, if overall noise and safety are considered simultaneously, EAC pavement that provides satisfactory friction as well as better noise reductions is suggested.

  • Joints are provided in cement concrete pavements to control transverse and longitudinal cracking that occur due to restrained deformations caused by moisture and temperature variations in the slab. But the construction of joints reduces the load-carrying capacity of the pavement at the joints, and pavements have beem deteriorated by cracks at the slab edges along the joints due to traffic loads. Therefore, it is important to analyze the behavior of joints accurately in the design of cement concrete pavements. In this study, the mechanical behavior of cement concrete pavement slabs is analyzed by the plate-finite element model, and Winkler foundation model is adopted to analyze the subgrades. The load transfer mechanism of joints are composed of dowel action, aggregate interlocking, and tied-key action, and the analytical program is developed using these joint models.

  • In twentieth century, a rigid pavement composed of a series of thin Portland Cement Concrete has been accepted due to the desirable structural strength of concrete, durability and economy. However, despite of precise design and construction of concrete highway pavements, some of concrete pavements (example : Interstate-l0 and 75 in U.S.A, 88 Olympic express highway and Jung-bu express highway in Korea) has already shown severe signs of longitudinal and transverse cracking, faulting, and pumping before the end of their intended service life. This highlights the need for better understanding of concrete pavement behavior using structural analysis program. For these reasons, this research was performed to study an analytical behavior of concrete pavements, especially for the effects of skewed joints on concrete pavements. Subsequently, this research should give better understanding of concrete pavement behavior to the highway engineers and provide effective remedies to the concrete highway pavements.
