Deteriorations of concrete are governed by combined factors such as environmental stressors, processes and rates of deteriorations. Due to this reason, it's very difficult and important issue to predict quantitatively the service life of concrete structure. From this pont of views, the purpose of this study is to propose the approaches on the further development for predicting the remaining service life of concrete by analyzing the deteriorations mechanism and evaluating the existing models.
Concrete structure placed in marine environment is subject to many different types of potential attack. Therefore the sea water resistance of cement and concrete must be considered when it is used for structure in the ocean. For this purpose, this study was peformed to investigate the properties of several types of cements for a massive concrete placed in marine environment.
The shape and dimension of precast concrete structure used in habor construction(caisson, block, etc.) are considered productive facility abilities, demanded minimum dimension in work of each member, the relation between the depth of water and a location of leaving, work conditions of towing and leaving, after leaving, differential settlement, etc. As this study examined friction resistance effect of financially designed precast concrete structure formed convex in bottom and stone mound.
Nonlinear temperature distribution induced by the hydration heat generates thermal stress in mass concrete. At early ages, such thermal stress may induce thermal cracks in the structure which can affect on the durability and safety of the structure. Up to now, a lot of works have focused on the prediction of temperature distribution and thermal stress in the structure. In most of such works, however, the inside of structure was considered as adiabatic state to predict temperature distribution and the thermal stress. And due to the lacks of appropriate analysis models after crack, there was little research on the crack occurrence. This paper deals with the prediction of the temperature distribution in the structure using the rate of hydration heat generation and also estimates the behavior of structure before and after cracking due to hydration heat using crack band model.
As the importance of maintenance of reinforced concrete structure recently has emerged, the attention of durability of structure has been increasing. There are many studies about durability decline especially due to the carbonation. In order to study carbonation progress after surface repair of carbonated concrete, each carbonation penetration velocity from different repair materials of concrete structure is compared through the experiment of carbonation accelerating CO2 concentration to 5%. As carbonation infiltration progress is predicted through this study, the counterplan of service life evaluation will be prepared on selection of repair materials of concrete structure.
This paper presents finite element (FE) based pushover analysis of a reinforced concrete structure with a two-leaf cavity wall (TLCW) to estimate the performance level of this structure. In addition to this, an unreinforced masonry (URM) model was selected for comparison. Simulations and analyses of these structures were performed using the DIANA FE program. The mentioned structures were selected as two storeys and two bays. The dimensions of the structures were scaled 1:1.5 according to the Cauchy Froude similitude law. A shake table experiment was implemented on the reinforced concrete structure with the two-leaf cavity wall (TLCW) at the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC) in Lisbon, Portugal. The model that simulates URM was not experimentally studied. This structure was modelled in the same manner as the TLCW. The purpose of this virtual model is to compare the respective performances. Two nonlinear analyses were performed and compared with the experimental test results. These analyses were carried out in two phases. The research addresses first the analysis of a structure with only reinforced concrete elements, and secondly the analysis of the same structure with reinforced concrete elements and infill walls. Both researches consider static loading and pushover analysis. The experimental pushover curve was plotted by the envelope of the experimental curve obtained on the basis of the shake table records. Crack patterns, failure modes and performance curves were plotted for both models. Finally, results were evaluated on the basis of the current regulation ASCE/SEI 41-06.
Previous study showed that delamination region in concrete structures can be successfully visualized using mode shapes of delaminated concrete section. However, modal tests for this purpose to obtain mode shapes of the delaminated concrete section may not be applicable in practice since, to correctly obtain the mode shapes of the section, the location and the shape of the delamination region in a structure should be known in advance. Unfortunately those are normally unknown in a real structure. Therefore, a moving forward test method may be useful to obtain the mode shapes of the concrete section when the location and the shape of the delamination region are not known. In this study, impact-echo testing based mode shape estimation technique is proposed and experimentally validated for visualization of delamination region.
The purpose of this fundamental study is to investigate the mechanism of high strength concrete using the high calcium sulfate cement from a point of view in cement hydration and micro structure. As a results, it was found that the internal pores of concrete are decreased by using the high calcium sulfate cement, because the hydrates of Ettringite which is densified in structure is much formed in early ages at steam curing. In addition to the ettringite needs the 32 times of free water formed mixing water for hydration. This effect are not only decreased the water to cement ratio and also increase to comp, strength of concrete. It was conclude that these above the two facts are the main mechanism of high strength concrete using high calcium sulfate cement.
Recently, as a performance based design concept is introduced, assurance of expected performances on serviceability and safety in the whole span of life is exactly requested. So, quantitative assessments about durability related properties of concrete in early-age long term are come to necessary, Especially in early age, deterioration which affects long-term durability performance can be occurred by hydration heat and shrinkage, so development of reasonable hydration heat model which can simulate early age behavior is necessary. The micor-pore structure formation property also affects shrinkage behavior in early age and carbonations and chloride ion penetration characteristic in long term, So, for the quantitative assessment on durability performance of concrete, modelings of early age concrete based on hydration process and micor-pore structure formation characteristics are important. In this paper, a micromechanics based hydration heat evolution model is adopted and a quantitative model which can simulate micro-pore structure development is also verified with experimental results. The models can be used effectively to simulate the early-age behavior of concrete composed of different mix proportions.
